F irst semester is well underway,

and often as administration and

faculty, we take time after the middle of

the term, to assess how things are at the

College. From my perspective, this year

November 2015

W e are proud of our alumni!

When the opportunity permits,

it is an honor to feature one of our many

graduates who are involved in vocational

ministry. One such alumni couple that has

faithfully served the Lord for 37 years is

Phil and Sharon Lichty.

Phil transferred to Living Faith Bible

College in 1975 after completing one year

at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford,

B.C. He graduated from LFBC on May 5,

1978. While at Columbia, Phil met the

girl of his dreams, Sharon Neufeld, and

they continued to cultivate their relation-

ship even while Phil was at LFBC. Their

relationship progressed and after Sharon

had completed a two year program at Co-

lumbia, she came to Living Faith for the

spring semester in 1978. On May 6th, the

day following Phil’s graduation, Phil and

ding on the Living Faith campus. (Continued on page 2)

elder, Phil led a variety of home groups

and worked with youth. In 1981, Phil and

has been, in many ways, one of our best

years. Some have asked me: “how can

this be, with some of the enrollment chal-

lenges and other issues?” My response is

encapsulated in the following.

First of all, the students this year

have come with an earnestness, a teach-

Having a background in construction,

Phil had taken a lead role in the construc-

tion of LFBC’s gymnasium and men’s

dorm during the summer of 1977 even

before completing his final year of studies.

After their wedding, Phil and Sharon

decided to live near the college so in the

fall of 1978 they built a home in the

village of Caroline. For two years Phil

worked in construction with other LFBC

alumni who were also living in the area.

Then in 1980, Phil was invited to join the

staff at LFBC. He served in a variety of

capacities for three years and played a

continues to pastor to this day. Remarka-

bly, Kevin Quesnel, a graduate from

LFBC in the late 90’s was called to pastor

Calvary Mennonite Church and served as

pastor there until earlier this year. All of

this time, Phil has continued to provide

leadership to Solid Rock Bible Camp.

Phil credits Sharon with much of

their ministry success stating, “Sharon has

been highly involved in the ministry and

has been a great personal support. We

have served together.” Phil and Sharon

have four children: Shauna, Daniel,

David, and then later added another

daughter to their family from Romania,

Lucica. Several of their children are mar-

ried and they currently have three grand-

children with another one on the way.

Phil and Sharon give thanks to Living

Faith for awakening in them a broader

awareness of the Kingdom of God and the

body of Christ as being made up of be-

lievers from many churches and denomi-

nations. This has shaped their philosophy

of ministry to this day. They view the

facilities of Solid Rock Bible Camp as

“the Father’s place for all His children to

feel welcome” and they increasingly ap-

preciate the centrality of Christ as the

head of His church.

One experience they still cherish

from their time at Living Faith was the

family atmosphere and the prominence of

relationships. They have instilled this

same value in their church culture and

regularly provide opportunity for “being

family together.” Phil and Sharon have a

growing awareness that God is such a

“good, good Father” and have grown

deeply in their “appreciation for Christ’s

work to connect us with the Father.” They

are saddened at how Christ has frequently

been misrepresented and how many peo-

ple miss knowing Him because they have

a wrong concept of who He is and what

He has done.

Then in May of 1983, the Lord led

Phil and Sharon to start a new ministry.

Thanks to a generous donation of lake-

front property, Phil and Sharon moved to

Monetville, Ontario (Phil’s home town) to

establish a Bible camp and training centre

on Lake Nipissing. Since that time, they

have built and directed Solid Rock Bible

Camp, which hosts a variety of camps and

retreats including wilderness leadership

training, kids’ camps, and youth retreats.

They also rent their facilities out to other

Christian groups.

Almost from the beginning, they be-

gan Timothy Training Tours, a program

that was designed to prepare and mobilize

teams for short-term missions. Between

1983 and 1993, they lead teams on six

different trips to Haiti, six trips to Roma-

nia, and a month-long trip to Africa.

In 1986, Phil was called to pastor

Calvary Mennonite Church in Monetville,

his home church. Phil served in this ca-

pacity for twelve years. Then in February

1998, by the leading of the Lord and

agreement of the church, Phil and Sharon

RELATIONSHIP COURSE — TOP NOTCH!

We’ve received rave reviews on Alan Smith’s

course “Kingdom Connections: God’s Pattern for

Relational Health in Your Life.” An additional 26

people from central and northern Alberta joined our

regular 1st and 2nd year students, November 9-12, to

take this four-day feature course on relationships. One

attendee commented, “This is the best course I have

taken in all my years of study.” Another said, “I wish

I had taken this course 40 years ago.”

Don’t worry that you missed it. We captured it on video and plan to

have the course available sometime in the new year once the video

editing and a course manual are completed. Thanks Alan for an excellent

course that has enriched many.

teach a course on youth ministry, and to sit in his class and

watch his teaching, modeling, and interaction with the stu-

dents. The bell went off, and the whole class was “still on

topic” 5 minutes later, missing out on their longer break

period. Way cool, says the Dean!

3. And several 4th year students are finishing up their Intern-

ships this year, and the reports back from them and the

churches they are serving in has caused me once again to

be glad that I have committed to serving at Living Faith.

And together, as faculty staff, and students, we have had

several exceptional “God times” already this year; both in a

couple of our corporate worship settings, and in our small

groups around the campfire in our new camp shelter.

From the perspective of the Dean and member of the fac-

ulty, I would not trade this school, nor the “product” that is our

graduates for any other institution. I officially reached

“retirement” age this year, but have no plans to retire from here,

but to put on another set of tires and keep rolling for the Lord,

right here at Living Faith.

sense of purpose and focus that has made this year stand out in

the minds of many. From our orientation outing until now, there

has been a cohesiveness and a sense of bonding both between the

students and with the faculty as well. There is a prevailing sense

of all of them embracing and fulfilling the call of God on their

lives. Our several international students have fit in well with this,

and have been embraced by our “home grown kids” in a way that

really speaks to the global nature of Christianity.

I have seen our students rise to the challenges, both here at

the school, and in the churches. A couple of really noteworthy

examples exemplify this.

1. In one church , following a farming tragedy, our music track

students and faculty stepped in to lead worship for several

weeks where the regular worship team was given a needed

“time out and away” from their normal Sunday ministry.

2. In another case, it has also been a joy to have a former

graduate, now a youth pastor in a large church, come and

Life Management Jan. 25 - Feb 4, 2016

Why did God make you the way you are? What is His plan for your life? This short course will help you understand God’s divine design and mission for your life. You will discover your unique personality using The Path Element Profile and learn skills for writing a personal ministry/life statement. Then building on this foundation, you will cover an array of life management topics such as self leadership, goal formation, time manage-ment, principles for financial freedom, and stewarding your health and fitness. This course provides a format for self discovery and life/ministry planning using self-assessment tools, lectures, class exercises, and micro-coaching opportunities. Instructor: Greg Reich, M.A.

Greg’s coaching business, Cutting Edge Influence, is dedicated to assisting ministry leaders as well as businessmen and women to excel and thrive in both life and ministry through personal growth and self-discovery. Greg holds a BA in Organizational Manage-ment and an MA in Theology and Culture. His greatest passions in life are family, nature, coaching, leadership and uncapping the raw potential within an individual.

The Tabernacle Feb 8-12, 2016

In the Old Testament, the tabernacle housed the very presence of the Almighty God. It was the place where God dwelt in the midst of His people and they could meet with Him. The tabernacle with its sacrifices and priestly practices foreshadowed truths that are fulfilled in Christ. He is Immanuel, “God with us” and the Word made flesh who “tabernacled” among us. In this course you will discover insightful truths that are powerfully relevant to your life as a New Testament believer.

Instructor: Pastor Brad Montsion, B.Th.

Pastor Brad Montsion has been in full-time pastoral ministry for more than 30 years and presently serves as the pastor of Fountain-gate Christian Assembly, a growing church in Cornwall, Ontario, which he planted about 20 years ago. He is a capable administrator, a certified trainer for PREPARE/ENRICH, a national elder for the Fellowship of Christian Assemblies, an excellent teacher and a servant leader.

Do you have some vacation time coming or need a break from work? These short courses by Greg Reich and Brad Montsion will challenge

you, deepen your faith, and enrich your life

Details coming in the New Year

It is hard to believe that nearly 45 years have passed since the

current Living Faith property was purchased in 1971, the sum-

mer that family camps were first held on campus and the year

that Bible College began. On June 29 to July 3 of 2016 we will

have completed 45 years of Spirit-filled, Christ-centered Bible

College training, having trained more than 1200 college students

with over 200 in vocational ministry. In addition, hundreds have

been taught through Living Faith Christian School and thousands

have been spiritually enriched through the many camps and re-

treats that we have offered. Moreover, numerous countries have

been impacted with the Gospel through our outreach and mission

teams. Join us as we celebrate the last 45 years and be inspired as

we share our vision for the future!

Why You Should Join Us The 45th Anniversary Family Camp will offer exceptional times

of worship, powerful speakers, lots of laughter, fun family activi-

ties, great fellowship, and lots of time for reminiscing and recon-

necting with old acquaintances and meeting new ones. Mark
