Lilium means Lily in latin and the inspiration for the name derives from the collections’ soft oval shape that resembles a lily pad. The entire Lilium collecti-on welcomes you with a curious and inviting gesture made of honest materials and designed as a contemporary, urban expression. In BIG’s own words, Lilium is designed for the modern, flexible and pragmatic time we live in, when out-door furniture is not necessarily only used outdoors but can also blend in na-turally in the living room, the lounge area of a restaurant, or in the workplace.

As a global multidisciplinary studio, BIG has an innovative approach to architec-ture and the ways in which we live, communicate and interact with each other. Lilium is inspired by the port area in Aalborg, where the original distilleries are a landmark of the city and its industrial development. Today, the city is trans-formed to take on new agendas.

With Lilium, BIG has created a versatile collection that greets its users in an informal and accommodating way using a combination of light and heavy ma-terials. The combination of a lightweight X-frame in stainless steel with planks of golden teak plays with the graphical effect of the grain of the wood and the simplicity of the slats used to make Lilium an instantly likeable furniture colle-ction that is easy to integrate in most settings. Over time, the untreated teak will patinate into a silver-grey colour that complements the steel.

The Lilium collection come in several variants that can be combined as you see fit: as a dining table with chairs and a bench, as lounge furniture for relaxation in combination with other pieces, or as multifunctional elements where the bench can double as a lounge table.

Tailored cushions are also part of the Lilium collection. The cushions follow the lines of the backrest and the seat and are upholstered in our extremely weather-resistant outdoor textile, designed for durability to withstand the unsteady Scandinavian weather.
