Dear MACURH NCCs, PCCs, NRHH Representatives, Presidents, and Advisors:

It is a great pleasure to me that I stand in front of everyone today a leader. During my freshman year at college, I thought I was just going to skim by and not make a difference in anything or to anyone. However, I feel that I have grown as a person and as a leader due to my experiences and positions in MACURH and NACURH. As a first time delegate, that happened to also be a first time NCC at No Frills 2008 at Northwest Missouri State University, I learned about MACURH and NACURH and everything they stand for. The more I learned about these organizations, the more I became passionate about everything they stood for and represented. When I became an RHA President, I found a different side of the organization. I then focused my efforts on the campus level and worked towards the betterment of my campus. As President for two years, I dearly missed the NCC boardroom. In the fall of my second term of President, a vacancy was left in the Executive Board for the position of NCC. Instead of looking at this as a burden, I found this as a challenge to get back into the NCC position and still be a President. At the end of this term, I was elected to become the Regional Communications Coordinator of Technology on the Regional Board of Directors. While serving this year on the Regional Board, I faced many challenges and achieved many goals. Some bid goals that I accomplished were the Commitment to Sustainability Award, re-vamping listservs, MACURH spirit video competition, and the monthly sustainability and presidential newsletters. When I joined MACURH I did not realize that I joined an extended family of leaders. Throughout my time either serving as a President, NCC, or RCC, I have made bonds that will survive throughout my lifetime. These people have pushed me to become a better leader and person overall. I owe my entire experience in this organization to the people that have surrounded me over my four years in MACURH. I am grateful to present you my bid for the Associate Director of Finance and Records and I hope that MACURH will select the best person for this position.Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely yours,

Jacob C. Mendez Regional Communications Coordinator of Technology, 2010-2011 Training and Transitioning Committee Vice-Chair, 2010-2011

Family GoalsCommittee Selection ProcessIn the past, MACURH Committees have been selected closer to the MACURH conference. One of my goals is to start this process early in the year so that the committees have adequate time before the conference to get work started. This would enable them to give a detailed report of what they are working towards and what they have accomplished thus far in the year. With this committee selection process, I would like to change the format of the selection. I plan to make a Google doc application and place it under the committee pages on the MACURH website. This application would be entered directly into a spreadsheet as they are entered and then would be easier to distribute to the Regional Board of Directors.

Monthly Budget Updates

As the Associate Director of Finance and Records, I would distribute a monthly report surrounding the budget.I would send out this report no matter the state of the budget. I personally feel that even if the budget is in crisis that the region should know what is going on. I would also plan to have a copy of the monthly budget report posted on the website. I also feel that this is a strong way of keeping myself and the rest of the Regional Board accountable throughout the year.

Records CollectionRecord-keeping is a forgotten task that needs to become public. The Associate Director of Finance and Records keeps these records, but no one is sure what is included in these documents. One of my goals is to archive these documents in an organized collection and put a catalog of what is included on the MACURH website. People could then contact me with requests to see a document and gain access to this information in an easier fashion. As an intern at the Pittsburg State University Archives, I was taught how to make a collection of documents and how to index them properly. I can use this knowledge to make these documents accessible and easier to transition from term to term.

Bi-Weekly Meetings

The regional conferences finance officers work very closely with the Associate Director of Finance and Records when it comes to setting the budget and executing spending. In order to clear up any confusion and keep the regional conferences financially responsible, I would ask them to have bi-weekly one on ones. These meetings would be an asset to protect our region from having a deficit in the future.

Policy Book Updates

When I take office, I plan on doing an extensive reading of the policy book to make sure all of our policies are up to date and reflect legislation that has been passed. I would also send the policy book over the regional list servers asking for everyone to read through and send me feedback on things that I may have missed when editing. Finally, I plan to take the Policy book to the campus Writing Center to read through and catch all grammar and spelling errors.

Communication

As a student, I know that my education always comes first. However, I pledge to respond to all e-mails, phone calls or any other sort of communication methods within 24 hours of receiving them. If I cannot find an answer to a question, I will be more than willing to direct you to the proper person who can fully answer your question. I also want to keep in touch with the other members of the Regional Board of Directors by letting them know how all my projects are being managed and handled. Finally, I want to keep a line of open communication with my on-campus advisor and my regional advisors. The advisors are an asset that can be used to make my position effective and I would like to use them to the fullest extent.

Spirit Points System

I know in the past that the spirit points system in commonly mentioned and used for incentives. However, this system has had many issues and has been in need of change and upkeep for awhile. I personally plan on updating the spirit points system and making it more user friendly for the rest of the Regional Board. I also plan on compiling information about spirit points to inform all representatives how to earn points throughout the year for their host institution.

Dear MACURH Reg ion:

It is my pleasure to recommend Mr. Jacob Mendez for the Associate Director of Financeand Records pos ition. Jacob is a student at Pittsburg State University, and is involvedwithin the Res idence Hal l system as both a Resident Ass istant (RA), and an act ivemember of our campus Res idence Hall Assembly (RHA), and formerly served as thatorganization' s President I advised Jacob in his role as RHA President , and indirectlysupervise him in his Resident Assistant role,

During the time I have known him, Jacob has demonstrated a strong work ethi c, aninterest in the students he works with, and determination to succeed in his endeavors, both personal and professional. He has been able to balance the demands of his academicprogram with the demands of his work as a Resident Assistant, as an RHA member, andas the MACURH RCC-Technology. University Housing requires that all Res identAssistants maintain at least a 2.50 grade point average (both seme ster and cumulative) inorder to reta in their positions. Jacob has always been able to stay in good standing withUniversity Housing 's grade requirements .

Jacob' s work for University Housing has shown his care for others through the time hetakes to get to know the students he serves , and his ability to provide unde rstanding andencouragement when they are facing difficult challenges. Jacob is good atcommunicating the issues his community is facing, and follows up with students to seehow they are faring after issues are resolved. Jacob has strong ideas and visions for whereResidence Hall Assembly is headed, and for what they can accomplish. He has the abilityto elicit buy-in from his fellow students on these plans, and is able to incorporate theideas of others to bring the vision full-circle.

Jacob has demonstrated to me that he has the drive and determination to be successful, aswell as the concern for the well being of others in the MACURH community _He is anexcellent candidate for the Associate Director ofFinance and Records pos ition.
