Like a LeperDavid wrote in Psalm 31:9-

    13,

    9. Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah, for Iam in distress: My eye wastes away with

grief, yea, my soul and my body.

    10. For my life is spent with sorrow, and myears with sighing: My strength fails

because of my iniquity, and my bones are

    wasted away.

    13. For I have heard the defaming of many,

terror on every side: While they took counseltogether against me, they devised to take

    away my life.

We can't help what others do and say. Wecan help only what we do.

Like a LeperWhen others start talking about us or fighting

against us, we may not be able to control that.

It's difficult when people start to slander therighteous.

But this is what David had to endure. In

verse 11 we read, " I am become a reproach,ea, unto my neighbors exceedingly."

Like a LeperWe expect slander from our enemies, and it

still hurts. But David continued, saying, and

a fear to my acquaintance: They that did seeme without fled from me.

That hurts even more. Can you imagine your

neighbors and acquaintances running awayfrom you as if you were a leper?

Like a LeperWhat was causing all of this for David? Saul

was lying about him. He was telling his

assistants and officers, "David said this.David did that."

And this gossip, this awful slander, was

spreading through the nation, and David wassuffering.

ears with sighing: My strength fails because

of my iniquity, and my bones are wasteaway. (verse 10)

David is saying, "Lord, if I've sinned, I'll

confess it." Second, trust in the Lord. "Butas for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, 'You

Like a LeperThird, remember that others have gone

    through this. You're not experiencing

    something unique.

Everyone who has done anything for the Lord

has been slandered, ridiculed, criticized--including the perfect Son of God.

Like a LeperDon't listen to the slander of the enemy; listen

to the Word of God. Get close to His heart,

and you'll have His help when you suffermisunderstanding.

When someone falsely accuses you, take

comfort in knowing that others have gonethrough the difficulty of slander.
