GLOSSARY OF TE RMS

CANDELA – A unit o measurement othe intensity o light that is emitted by alight source in a particular direction.

LUx – The unit o luminous ux in theInternational System, equal to the amounto light given out through a solid angleby a source o one candela intensityradiating equally in all directions.

LUMEN – A unit o measurement o theamount o brightness that comes roma light source. Lumens defne “luminousux,” which is energy within the range orequencies we perceive as light.

INTEGRATING SPHERE – An integrating sphere is a measurementdevice with an entrance port that canaccept all the directional light outputo the device under test, or can totallyenclose the device itsel. The walls othe sphere should be highly diusewith high reectivity (>80%) and thespectroradiometer should be shieldedrom direct view o the device under testby a bae system.

Why create standards? While Peli was one othe frst manuacturers to use quantifable testprocedures, the need was recognised to developa common language that customers could use toselect the right torch or their specifc needs.

As a result, the American National StandardsInstitute (ANSI), with input rom the torchindustry, developed perormance standardsand symbols to eectively communicate alight’s eatures and benefts.

ANSI STANDARDS (American National Standards Institute)

provides. The IP rating normally hastwo numbers (IPXX). The frst numberrepresents protection rom solid objectsor materials (dust) where the secondnumber represents protection romliquids (water). With the IP rating IP 54,5 describes the level o protection romsolid objects and 4 describes the level oprotection rom liquids.

RECHARGEABLE – Denotes a torchwhich contains rechargeable batteriesand charging station. These models areshown with the rechargeable icon.

S A F E T Y To meet the exacting requirements o ATEX directive 94/9/EC, Peli Lights are

tested to ensure that they pose no threat o ig nition when operating within

hazardous locations. Using approved laboratories, the lights are tested to ensure

that they will withstand rigorous impact and drop tests, severe environmentalexposure and meet a minimum o IP54 water a nd dust ingress protection.

Longevity and saety are assured by design. Each light certied by ATEX

should have a code printed on its b ody. This code advises the user as to

the area in which it can b e saely used without risk o explosion.
