Product OverviewLightningStrike is the first aircraft in history designed to demonstrate the following:

• Hybrid electric distributed propulsion system

• Innovative synchronous electric-drive system

• Both tilt wing and canard for vertical take-off and landing

• High efficiency in both hover and high-speed forward flight

Program Background• Created by Aurora Flight Sciences and partners

Rolls-Royce and Honeywell

• Developed for the DARPA VTOL X-Plane program

• Funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)

Aurora Successfully Flies Subscale X-Plane Aircraft• Aurora’s subscale vehicle demonstrator was

successfully flown at a U.S. military facility in March, achieving a critical program milestone

• The subscale aircraft weighs 325 pounds and is a 20% scale flight model of the full scale demonstrator Aurora will build for DARPA in the next 24 months.
