Where do shadows

come from?

Where ismy shadow?

Shadow FactsShadow Facts• Whenever light is blocked, a

shadow is formed.• Did you know that a shadow

starts where the light is blocked so your shadow starts at your feet!

• When the sun is directly above you, there is little to no shadow because the light from the sun is hitting all the area around you.

• The length of a shadow constantly changes as the earth rotates on its axis away from the sun. In the morning, your shadow is longer than you! In the afternoon, it is much smaller than you!

Color Mixing• Looking at a color through a different colored lens changes the color’s appearance. Please see our Mystery Box!• Mixing colors results in a variety of new colors.• Virtually all colors are a mixture of the primary colors of light (red, green, blue).

Color PerceptionColor PerceptionHow do we see color?

• Color originates in light.• Humans perceive sunlight as colorless.• Color-detecting equipment inside the eye is called a “cone.”• The number of visible colors is defined by the kinds of cones in the eye.• When light shines on an object, the eye receives the reflected light and sends a message to the brain to see the color.

We see things because they reflect light into our eyes!
