Versatile spotlights which you can set to produce a hard or soft edged beam. Very little light spills outside the beam, making them ideal for long throws or tight spots. Shutters between the lamp housing and lens tube allow you to shape the beam accurately. Gobos can be used to project images. The Junior Zooms are a modern replacement for 650W spots, producing about 30% more light from less power. The other 575W Source Fours have replaced our older 1200W profiles and when used with 750W lamps are comparable with 2000W units. All profiles come with Hook clamp, safety bond and colour frame.

Fresnel spots provide a focussed beam with a very soft edge. The beam sizes can be varied over very wide ranges and the soft edge makes them easy to blend together. Fresnel lenses produce spill light outside the main beam which is usually controlled using a set of barndoors. Generally, fresnels and PCs are very effective for use on stage and for wide area coverage but the spill light makes them unsuitable for long throw use. Fresnels and PCs use T or CP class lamps which should be used with the yoke kept vertical. All Fresnels come with Hook clamp, safety bond, colour frame.

As the name suggests, this lot produce wide beams of light! We have a range of outdoor floodlights in the Utility, Emergency & Decorative category. Asymmetric beams are best for lighting backdrops as they send more light to the furthest part of the beam to compensate for the amount of light lost on the way. Molephays are best know as audience blinders in concerts. Sunstrips are the only type with DMX onboard dimming. This makes it possible to program complex patterns and sequences without vast quantities of cabling. Sunstrips have 3 pin DMX and Powercon mains input on one end and outputs of both on the other end for daisy chaining.

PARS & RaylightsThe focus of most PARs is set by the lamp type. Source Four PARs use interchangeable lenses instead. The standard PAR 64 lamps are CP60 (9x12°s), CP61 (10x14°s), CP62 (11x24°s) although we also have some 500W lamps available. PAR 56s are available with Spot (8x12°s), Flood (11x20°s) and Wide Flood (16x40°s) lamps. Source Four PAR lenses come in five types; Very Narrow Spot (11°), Narrow Spot (12°), Medium Flood (12x19°s), Wide Flood (17x33°s) and Extra Wide Flood (65°s).

These are the ones you use to follow people around. They all have adjustable beam spreads by moving the lenses The lenses also allow soft or hard focussing and adjustable irises allow you to easily change the beam size whilst following people. The standard kits get you a followspot with a means of dimming it, a stand and a colour magazine. If you want to use colours you can either use your own stock or buy new sheets or hire a selection of colours in a folder from us. Followspots with tungsten lamps are supplied with single channel dimmers or you can connect them to other dimmers. Discharge lamps such as MSR and HMI cannot be connected to external dimmers but are far more efficient than tungsten lamps. Buxie followspots use a second iris to provide dimming.

LED lighting is the most energy efficient lighting currently available making it ideal for marquees, venues with limited power and areas where heat must be avoided. These units all use primary colour LEDs which you mix together to create the colour you want. Some also use white and amber LEDs for better performance with paler colours. The result of this process is that they are most efficient with saturated colours - the opposite of normal lighting with colour filters. The high power ones can easily outshine a 1000W PAR 64 at deep colours. Most units have stand-alone modes and all can use DMX control. Some also include wireless DMX control and WiFi. LEDs produce more saturated colours than you can get using colour filters so they're the best thing to use if you want to dramatically change the apparent colour of an object. Multicoloured objects lit from colour mixing LEDs producing pale colours also tend to look more colourful.

Common uses for the cables below are: 13A for domestic power, 15A for dimmed stage supplies, 16A for non-dimmed stage supplies, small distribution and outdoor supplies, Powercon for equipment leads, patching and daisy chain linking equipment, others for bigger power distribution except for Socapex and Bulgin which are for carrying 6 and 4 circuits respectively. Bulgin cables should only be used for power from sequencers. You will receive our cables coiled and secured with insulation tape. Please return them this way. If you don't coil cables properly, they become very difficult to use, fail prematurely and can become dangerous. Never coil cables around your elbow, you should coil most as a loop hanging from your hand, we can show you how if you're not sure.

Call them cloths, drapes, curtains, backdrops or masking - they're just as useful whatever you call them! We carry a selection of drapes which we use for blackout, masking and projection, some of our stock is shown below and we keep a collection of other drapes too. If in doubt; ask us. Please note that fabric dimensions do vary slightly. A few key tips for handling cloths - always ensure they are only laid down face up so that any dust is kept on the back. Fold them all face in first to prevent dust transfer to the front face. Please note that these prices are for the drapes only and exclude any support structure. If you need free standing masking or backdrops, just phone us and we'll help you decide which system is best for you.

Steeldeck is a heavy duty steel framed deck with a solid timber top. The underside has felt to reduce noise. The decks accept scaffold tubes for legs. Standard sizes of legs are included in the price and custom heights can be cut to order. Handrail sections bolt onto the decking sides, as do steps sections. These will hold almost anythign you can put on them but remember, they're heavy. If you're handling these yourself, you'll need two people to pick up a section. Decks are supplied painted matt black and should be returned in the same state. If you want to cover the sides, you can either use borders or staple fabric to the edges. Remember to pull all the staples out before moving the decks if you value your hands!

Although commonly included with pyrotechnics, the Kabuki CO2 system is actually a compressed gas launching system for use with streamers, confetti and glitter. The glitter used in these systems is large rectangles and not to be confused with the tiny glitter used for craftwork. Fine glitter could be extremely dangerous if launched! The Le Maitre Pyroflash system is one of the best known systems enabling many effects to be used with simple plug in cartridges. We have considerable experience with pyrotechnics so please feel free to ask for help. Remember, you are dealing with small explosives. The hand flasher produces vertical flash of flame from the operators hand. The flash gun can produce two flashes of flame from the operators fingertips. Both are battery powered and use flash paper and cotton as the charges.

These are plastic candles with translucent plastic flames. A small electronic circuit causes the flame to flicker when powered by a 9 volt battery. The Wee Willie Winkie version includes a brass holder. These items should be used in dimly lit scenes so the flames glow rather than being lit externally. Your safety officer will love you!

If you don't already have experience of hiring microphones and radio mics, here are a few pointers to help you choose what to hire. Dynamic microphones are good for many purposes such as vocals and instruments and they'll work with pretty much any mixer. Condenser mics require external 'phantom' power although some can work from a battery. Condenser mics are usually more sensitive than dynamic mics, especially at higher frequencies. Cardioid describes the pickup pattern as a rough heart shape; most sensitive directly in front and least sensitive immediately behind. A hypercardioid mic has a longer, narrower pickup pattern but usually also has a small sensitive patch just behind the mic. PZMs collect sound via a solid surface, thus giving an even response within a particular area and making them good for ambient room or stage sound. Radio mic hire is available as handheld, headset or tie clip kits. We deal with the licensing you'll need for them and will provide you with a copy when you collect the hire. Radio mic tie clip capsules and lightweight headsets are delicate; please be careful.

Headsets & belt packs allow your production crew to talk to each other. We can supply momentary foot switches for use with some of our belt packs. These allow people to talk hands free without leaving their mics on: a breakthrough in crew intelligibility! We haven't yet decided on our favourite radio system so please ask us.
