The right light sources for flexible lighting

Different cultures have different ideas about when the light is “right”Light is such a crucial part of human life that most people know when it feels wrong. On the other hand, defining what is “right” is more difficult.

Different cultures look at light in different ways. In the Nordic Region, we generally view 2,700 Kelvin as a warm white light, and 3,000 Kelvin as neutral white. Farther south, people view 3,000 Kelvin as warm white and 4,000 Kelvin as neutral white.

The light source should have a CRI value of at least Ra90As a light that covers the full colour spectrum, the sun is our reference, while artificial lighting only produces a limited number of wavelengths.

To indicate the quality of a light source, we use a colour rendering index (Ra) in which lower values mean that colours are not rendered correctly. With modern technology, a value of at least Ra90 should be achieved for acceptable results. Low-price LED lights and traditional low-energy bulbs, for example, often have values far below Ra90.

Lighting design requires various types of light sourcesBut lighting design isn’t just about light quality. It is about exposing different surfaces using dif-ferent types of light, and tailoring this according to how the space is used. Well-thought-out lighting design is based on the interplay between lit areas and shadows which creates dynamism in a room.

Shadows are needed to emphasise shapes and colours, as well as light to enhance textures and allow the eye to notice all the attractive nuances. Imagine a beautiful evening dress, an elegant shoe, a masculine watch, or how about a mountain of red tomatoes...Whatever the product, lighting design for retail is about highlighting the details to create an overall image and tempt people to buy.

OptoDrive™ produces a higher-quality light

Easy to integrate into different types of fittings If you design fittings, whether concealed or visible, you will quickly realise the benefits of OptoDrive™. The modules are extremely compact, and the entire module illuminates, rather than just the LED. Regardless of the light output, colour temperature or light distribution, the modules in each series have the same dimensions and screw holes. Cost-efficiency is very high and you can easily tailor the light in your fittings for different needs and requirements.

Complete, dimmable LED module OptoDrive™ is a complete, dimmable LED module with or without an internal driver. You can choose the colour temperature and distribution of the light. Variable distribution angles provide the right spread for varying needs. OptoDrive™ LED modules were the first on the market to feature internal control which can generate a perfect white light. The light quality surpasses the workplace lighting standard for work tasks with extra high requirements for a neutral light that can render colours correctly, e.g. in hospitals, laboratory environments, graphic production and design.

OptoDrive™ LED modules also produce less heat and more efficient transfer from LED to fitting, which means that the light source has a longer life span (over 50,000 hours of continuous operation). Focused and omni-directional light sourcesThere are several different OptoDrive™ modules for integration into fittings both for focused and omni-directional lights. ANDERS replaces the traditional strip light, while SVEA and CLARA may be used in fittings for downlight, uplight, bulkhead, spotlight, ambient light, and so on.

The module comes complete with casing and recesses, ready for integration into fittings.
