TT he glass filter is colored with a precision dichroiccoating. A dichroic coating is created by depositing

microscopic layers of metal on the glass. This processresults in spectacular colors that can last for years, andare often described as “clear” and “pure”. The glass basematerial is borofloat, a glass substrate known for its resis-tance to thermal shock and ability to withstand high tem-peratures over long service periods.

TT he Glass Series by LEE Filters offers lighting designers the most consistent and durable, innovative range of glass products available on the market. Created in colors chosen by lighting

professionals, the Glass Series’ exclusive polyester swatch book is an effective tool for color selection. All Glass Series colors are available in unframed, framed and, of course, custom shapes and sizes.

swatch book. LEE Filters laboratories in Andover,England have used their years of experience toprovide the best possible matches to the dichroicglass filters. Use these polyester filters either as atool to aid in the selection of a glass color, or inlong-term, low temperature applications.

Some LEE colors are available on our “HT” base material; all of these colors arealso available on our standard polyester base material.

HT Filters are made with a polycarbonate base material instead of a polyester basematerial. The polycarbonate has a higher melting point allowing the filter to with-stand higher temperatures.

Manufactured to BS3944, the filter incorporates bright, powerful colorants on a modern base material of the highest quality. This, complemented by LEE Filters’high standards of color consistency and service, results in filters which exhibitflame retardancy, excellent reliability and extended life.

Patterns can be used in different ways to enhance a stage design:

▼▼ Patterns create texture on stage. A ‘flat’ composition can appear tohave more depth due to the highlightand shadow created by a pattern.

▼▼ Patterns are often used in place of scenery to establish locale, season, or time of day.

▼▼ Patterns create great visuals on backdrops, cyclorama and otherscenic elements.

Seri

es700 Series 700 Series

LL ighting designers always have color in their minds. Whether they are creating aromantic moonlit setting or a feisty, angry backdrop, they know which colors they

need to achieve the effect. Although LEE Filters has a plethora of lighting filters available, the designer may sometime feel that the color is not quite right.

In 1998, Lee decided to offer lighting designers aunique opportunity - to turn their ideas into reali-ties. Over the last 5 years, more than 12 leadinglighting designers have used the company's facilitiesto turn the colors in their minds into reality.

The LEE Filters 700 Series of lighting filters is adirect result of the work undertaken by the design-ers at Lee's facilities in Andover, England. Within thecourse of a day, each designer was able to create aspecific solution to enhance a mood or effect.Working closely with Lee's research and develop-ment team, they took their ideas forward by mixingand blending, producing the samples for testing andfield trials, and fine tuning each color until they hadachieved exactly the effect they wanted. The colorswere named and added to the 700 series followingthe very stringent quality control process that LEE Filters is famous for.

ExampleExampleTo convert an original source of 6500K to 3200K. Theline has been drawn as an example. You will note that itcrosses the central band at just over +150 Mired Shift. This indicates that the Filter required is 204 Full CTO(also available with two degrees of Neutral Density).

How to useHow to useSimply draw a line from the Color temperature value of your original light source, tothat of the converted source. Where the line crosses the central band, read off theMired Shift value. For your convenience we have added the range of LEE LightConversion Filters at their relative appropriate positions.

MIRED SHIFT CALCULATIONTo calculate the Mired (Micro Reciprocal Degree)Shift value for any conversion, carry out the followingsimple calculation.

T1 is the colour temperature of the original lightsource in degrees Kelvin.

T2 is the colour temperature of the required source.

= Mired Shift Value1000000 100000T2 T1

LL EE Filters has eight Cosmetic Colors specifically formulated to enhance skin tones without affecting the originalquality of light. Cosmetic Colors are used in a wide variety of applications, including theatre, motion

picture, video and still photographic.

These filters were developed to reduce the harsh “white” light look found in some television and film situations.Since the Cosmetic Colors have a relatively flat transmission across the full spectrum, they can be used withoutaffecting the overall “color” of the light. As indicated in the wavelength transmission chart in your swatchbook, each filter causes only minimal amounts of change to the color itself. The resulting pale tints are combinedwith a subtle amount of diffusion which softens the effect of the filter.

Refer to the LEE yellow swatch book for samples of these products.
