LightGuide 2 from HellermannTyton is a flexible fibre optic ducting system designed to protect and route fibre optic cable in the data centre, central office, head end and PoP.

The system comprises a full range of ducting and fittings in 4 sizes, offering a complete solution, available whatever the application or size of installation.

The LightGuide 2 system has been developed to ensure the total protection of fibre cable combined with ease of use. The system helps maintain a minimum 50mm bend radius throughout the system protecting against signal loss or damage to cables due to excessive cable bends.

The LightGuide 2 system has been designed with flexibility, ease and speed of assembly in mind. With a comprehensive range of ducts and fittings that can be built and installed to an exact specification or design.

LightGuide 2 can be installed to any required size from a smaller comms room environment through to the large scale data centre. LightGuide 2 offers fibre protection throughout the complete system, maintaining bend radius and providing excellent cable fill capacities.

The fibre calculator below has been designed to help the installer to calculate how much fibre optic cable is required to meet the specified cable fill percentage of the LightGuide 2 system.

The simple formula combined with the table below listing the standard fibre cable diameters, will give the installer the total amount of cables that can fit into the selected ducting size. The table illustrates the number of fibre cables that can be installed at the recommended 40% fill capacity and the maximum 100% capacity.

How to Calculate Fibre Cable Fill Capacity

HellermannTyton’s LightGuide 2 duct fibre cable fill capacity is calculated using the formula below.Note. When calculating fibre cable fill capacity using the formula, variables W, H and D must be expressed in the same units (e.g mm or inches).

LightGuide 2 Visio® Stencils

A full set of Visio® stencils for LightGuide 2 are available to download online. The Visio® software can then produce a Bill of Materials (BOM) based on the design, detailing part numbers and quantities of the items required.

Ducting

Solid or slotted ducts that provide a protective path for optical fibres which can be installed horizontally or vertically allowing for systems which need to be mounted over multiple levels.

The ducts are available in four sizes in 1200mm or 1800m lengths. All ducts come supplied with covers which are easily removed when fibre needs to be added or removed.

Fittings

Fittings include Elbows, Tees, Crosses, Trumpets and Reducers which are used for changing direction, adding branches, reducing system size and routing fibre in or out of the system. All fittings are supplied with a cover as standard.

Fibre Side Access Module

The Fibre Side Access Module is simply placed over the side wall of any horizontal channel to create a vertical drop-off whilst maintaining the 50mm minimum bend radius.

The outlet has a two piece cover with a hinged rear portion allowing easy access to any fibres which pass the outlet without having to remove the cover.

Junction Kits

Junction kits are used for aligning and connecting sections of ducting or fittings without the need of any additional brackets.

Mounting and Support Kits

The mounting and support kits are used to install the LightGuide 2 system and provide the necessary support once installed.

The HellermannTyton LightGuide 2 system has been developed to offer a complete ducting solution with a comprehensive range of modular components. Basic components include horizontal and vertical ducts, elbows, drops and a range of junctions.

Its simple design makes it quick and easy to assemble, with all of the fittings designed to accept the ducting without the need of any additional brackets, significantly reducing the amount of time required for installation.

The system is manufactured from halogen free UL94/VO plastic making it suitable for use under the floor or in overhead plenum chambers.

Installation Equipment

No specialist installation equipment is required for installing the HellermannTyton LightGuide 2 system.

The minimum tool requirements are:

• Frame saw, wide enough for chosen channel

• Drill with 6mm drill bit

• Spanner / socket 10mm

• Deburring tool

• Tape measure

• Possible drilling template
