TRANSMISSION

Transmission is the passage of an EM wave through a medium

If light reflected by objects did not pass through air, windows, or most of the eye, we would not be able to see objects

How materials transmit light

Transparent materials allow most of the light that strikes them to pass through

It is possible to see objects through a transparent material

Air, water, clear glass

Translucent

Translucent materials transmit some light but cause it to spread in all directions

You can see light through these materials but no clearly

Lampshades, frosted glass, sheer fabrics, notebook paper

OPAQUE

Opaque materials do not allow any light to pass through them

Heavy fabrics, construction paper, ceramic mugs
