dren to his parents Gustav and Frederika (Senechal) Berndt on their farm north of Anamoose and Drake, ND. He at-tended school at Round Lake School through the 8th grade.

Gordon arrived in Fairview in 1944 to visit sisters and soon found work at Thomas Service Station. He met Irene Henderson through her brothers. Gordon and Irene were

-view, which they later farmed. Their three children, Dennis, Gene, and Colleen were born during this time as well as infant daughter Wanda, who died at birth. Gordon started driving a school bus route while farming, as well as the ac-tivity trips, and continued for many years. He enjoyed the many students who rode the bus during the years. Gordon and Irene were long time members of the Lonsdale Methodist Church, Sidney, MT.

The family moved to Fairview in 1961 and Gordon worked for Davidson Hardware and then started a long career with Cenex in Fairview and Sidney. He retired from Cenex in Sidney at age 81 after some 43 years. He enjoyed working with the many customers over the years and the fellow workers at both Fairview and Sidney. Gordon was an accomplished guitar player and took great pleasure playing in a local country band that performed at many venues across eastern Montana and western North Dakota. He also gave guitar lessons to local youth.

Gordon enjoyed gardening, reading, walking, feeding and talking to his local rabbits, squirrels and birds. He was always up for a good visit and laughs with friends and rela-tives, or sometimes strangers. Having a piece of pie, cake or any other dessert always made those visits extra special.

Irene passed away in 2010 and Gordon moved to Bethel Heritage Manor independent living in Williston. He found many new friends and always looked forward to working on puzzles, doing his walking and getting visits from friends and relatives.

E-Waste Collection Is This Friday & Saturday, Sidney, FairviewSubmitted by Beth Redlin

The 16th annual “Erase your Ewaste” event gets under way in Sidney this coming Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the Richland County Public Shop next to the Fairgrounds. MonDak area residents…not just Richland County…are encouraged to bring their obsolete or damaged electronic items for recycling in both Sidney and Fairview this weekend. “Let us help you with your fall cleaning,” Coordinator Heather Luinstra said.

Organizers and volun-teers will be following coun-ty public health guidelines for COVID-19, including wearing masks and social distancing. Members of the public are asked to do the same if they have to get out of their vehicles for any rea-son. “By adhering to these guidelines we can continue to provide this service to our region,” Luinstra said.

Friday and then continues from 9 a.m. to noon on Sat-

be Saturday only, also from 9 a.m. to noon, at the water station on 9th Street. Fair-view seniors or others need-ing assistance in delivering their e-waste may call Ray Trumpower at 742-5616.

Yellowstone E-waste Solutions, Billings is the e-cycler for the event and continues to offer their ser-vices for FREE. The only exception is a $7 charge for removing a hard drive for

destruction or just wanting to hang on to them.

Large loads: As in past years, local businesses, agencies and organizations with large amounts to e-cy-cle are asked to make an ap-pointment by calling Luinstra at 406-433-2207 or emailing [email protected] .

No CRT televisions or monitors are being accepted and no projection TV units or consoles. Other limita-tions include no consumer white goods, vacuums, light bulbs, CFLs, mercury ther-mometers, alkaline batteries (rechargeable are okay), or items containing refrigerants (including dehumidifiers), oils, or acids.

T h e “ E - r a s e y o u r E-waste” effort is now in its 16th year and recycled 511,000 lbs., or 255 tons, of e-waste since 2005. The event is coordinated by members of the Rich-land County Local Emer-gency Planning Committee (LEPC), Richland County Disaster and Emergency Services, and the USDA Agricultural Research Lab in Sidney. The Richland County Public Works De-partment also makes their facilities freely available for the collection event.

Band Day 2020 CombinesWith Artfest

The Williston Conven-tion & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and The James MemorialArt Center are pleased toannounce plans for a com-munity celebration to beheld Sept.19, in Harmon Park in conjunction withArtfest. This year has been a year of adjustment. BandDay traditionally occurs over

-ery year. This year, it was rescheduled for Septemberas schools moved to dis-tance learning in the spring. Artfest is held annually in thelate summer.

“This year, studentmarching bands and guestbands are not available,”commented CVB Executive Director Amy Krueger. “As a result, we have made the

a parade. Instead, we are fo-cusing on what we do have. We have an opportunity to work with a wonderful, his-torical organization to helpplan a relaxed communityevent people can enjoy.”

Band Day predates World War II. The earliest reference found to-date ofBand Day in Williston wasa 1927 print article, whichgives Band Day a 92-yearhistory in Williston. The James Library was opened in 1911, with a banquet andgrand ball. This year, Willis-ton can celebrate both withfood vendors, craft vendors, live auction and more in Harmon Park. Band Day willbe honored with an exhibittitled “Band Day Throughthe Years” in Harmon Park, showcasing historical imag-es from past festivals.
