WORSHIP SERVICE TIME CHANGE on Sunday, June 5: 8:30am, 10:00am and 5:00pm.
Light-of-Dei Gloria Dei Lutheran Church & Preschool 33501 Stonehill Drive, Dana Point, CA 92629 Phone: (949) 493-3414 Website: mygloriadei.org Email: [email protected] June 2016 Newsletter
Dear Gloria Dei family, In my comments at Steve Sivcovich’s retirement luncheon I quoted the great theologian Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss who said, “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.” Scripture tells us there’s a time for everything under heaven, “a time to weep and a time to laugh.” As we give thanks for one person, we welcome another. After reviewing probably forty applications for the organist/pianist position, narrowing it down and auditioning seven, we have officially hired Hanna Lee. She will be starting the first Sunday in August. Until that time, we have arranged several people to cover Sunday morning services. Here’s a little about Hanna: Currently, she is working as an organist/pianist at the West Middleton Lutheran Church in Middleton, WI. She could not have received a better reference from her pastor and church. Besides Sunday morning duties, she accompanies all their choirs and their contemporary service band. She has her doctoral degree in Organ Performance from the University of Iowa and working part-time at the University of Wisconsin doing research on the Historical Organ Performance Practice, Harpsichord, and the Liturgies and working with Professor John C. Stow as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. You might ask, what’s an organist from Wisconsin doing applying for a position in Dana Point? Her husband is a pastor and works with Inter-Varsity staff and they will be moving to our area this summer. She said, “I have been praying that I would be able to serve at a Lutheran Church after our move.” Do you call that “serendipitous,” or a “God thing,” or whatever, please welcome her in August. See you Sunday, Pastor David
PASTOR SABRINA’S THOUGHTS
It is that time again. As the summer approaches, I always like to present a list of inspirational or devotional books that I would recommend for summer reading – whether on vacation, on a plane, on the beach, or just sitting at home with some extra free time. These are all nonfictional books, some more scholarly (N.T. Wright), some more devotional (Rachel Held Evans), and some that would be great for a small group discussion (Eugene Peterson), but all have something to offer.
1. Faith Unraveled: How a Girl Who Knew All the Answers Learned to Ask Questions by Rachel Held Evans
2. Amazing Grace: A Vocabulary of Faith by Kathleen Norris 3. Surprised by Hope by N.T. Wright 4. A Long Obedience in the Same Direction: Discipleship in an Instant Society by Eugene H. Peterson. 5. Home by Another Way by Barbara Brown Taylor (because no summer reading list is complete
without a book by my favorite author!).

I just came back from HK yesterday. I have got a new visa for staying in China. Thanks be to God! As someone here has said, "There are works waiting for you, Dorcas." Please continue to pray for and with me for God's guidance and leading for this work through me for His glory! The needs here are great! Again, thanks for your faithful partnership and fellowship in our Lord, Jesus Christ! I am so blessed by you all! With thankful heart to God and you, Dorcas Wang

PRESCHOOL Shelli Parajeckas, Director
Phone: (949) 493-3596 The preschool year is coming to a close. We are sending 27 students to Kindergarten this year and they will be missed deeply. The campus will be a wee bit quieter this summer without our kids here. The teachers have provided children with opportunities for growth in all areas of development. They’ve worked closely with parents to establish meaningful relationships. They have prevailed 8 months of daily construction “stuff” with a smile on their face. Simply put…..Gloria Dei teachers inspire me every day. The children of Gloria Dei are delightful. Their laughter is contagious. Their conversations are telling. Their excitement to learn something new is rewarding. I love coming to work because of them.
Gloria Dei Preschool; a place where our kids play and pray! Have a terrific summer!!
