And snowboarding & having FUN. Did you miss the first bus? That’s Ok as long as you didn’t miss the second bus on November 27th. The OC Ski Club is out on the SNOW!

I will now have a permanent smile on my face until the end of April. Six months of waiting but I am back on the hill. I am signed up for two trips, Smugglers Notch and Keystone, where I will do nothing but SKI. Ok, maybe a shot of Knob Creek too. There is so much great stuff coming up in the next five months. Committee fair,

Organized SkiingFred Haefeli aka”Woodtick”, Vice President for Organized Skiingemail: [email protected]

We are Skiing!

Remember!

Winter Carnival, OC races, Great weekend & week long trips, bus follies, après- ski laughter, taking Rich’s line, and all the other great OC stuff!

We’ll have a little ski break at Christmas as that is a Sunday, so no Bus. Enjoy the holidays but first get out and enjoy at least one day on the slopes before Christmas.

This month will be the last opportunity to sign up for some of the great ski weekend/week-long trips we have scheduled. Quite a few have deadlines in December so we will either be sold out or cancelling open spots.

Sign up early to save your bus seat. Every year some folks wait too long, as we order buses two days in advance, and you could find the bus “sold out.” You know you want to ski; you know the weather well in advance, so sign up. No excuses.

Don’t wait and don’t be shy to ask about the trips. You don’t want to hear about how great the trip was from someone. You want to be the one telling someone about it!!!

Visit the OC website as this

is going to be your best place for up to date info as usual. Also reserve your bus seat on the website thru PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account to use this, just a credit card.

As THe Ski Turns

CALLING ALL BEGINNER SKIERS & SNOWBOARDERS—On Friday December 16 and Sunday December 18, we will be running bus trips to Okemo, in addition to providing free lessons for all levels of skiers and snowboarders by the OC Ski Club Snowsports School. There is a special package available from Okemo for all “Never Ever” skiers and snowboarders. The “Early Season Discounted First Tracks” includes equipment rental, group lesson by the Okemo Mountain Snowsports School, and a lower mountain lift ticket. To participate in this

program, you must purchase the package in advance. Please call 802-228-1675 to reserve your spot. Be sure to mention that you will be with the OC Ski Club on the dates listed above. This package is first come, first serve. The OC bus ride is not part of the package purchased from Okemo, you can reserve and prepay for the bus at a meeting or on the website. If you have any questions, stop by the Snowsports School table at any meeting.

Back again by popular demand, there will be a ski & snowboard tuning clinic on Thursday January 12 at the PCC—6:30 PM Sharp. Learn everything from simple de-burring to beveling edges, base repair, and hot waxing. You will learn how to determine when the skis need attention and how to do it yourself, if you wish.

Meeting called to order by Pres. Matt Fabrizio at 7:01 pm. Meeting ran on time, nice job Matt. 1 member absent. 14 in attendance. Agenda, minutes and treasurer’s report were accepted. Cathy Marvin, VP of Admin, gave her report. New Website will become operational (Star Trek talk) this month. See the new format for the email blasts. Nice job! Club is making an all out effort to recruit new members at the Northeast Ski Expo, the Warren Miller movie and finally at the Adirondack Winter Expo in Saratoga. The annual Holiday Party will be Dec 2, at the Franklin Terrace

in Troy. More information will be found in this issue of the LiftLine. It looks like a great party. Hope you plan to attend.

VP of Org. Skiing Fred Haefeli reports that winter events and activities are looking good. The first ski buses have run. NYCDSC has 2 races scheduled: Feb 25 at West Mt by Albany Ski Club and the Council race at Gore, Jan. 29. See Nicole Bouchez to sign up to race. All skill levels and ages are needed.

The Council Day Ski calendar is available on their website with over 200 days

listed of reduced lift tickets at ski areas all over the Northeast. Just show your membership card at the ticket window to get the reduced rate. If you have children and they need ID cards, see membership to get one. They are only $5 and will list your child’s name and affiliation with the OC Ski Club. Many ski areas require that each adult and child show a card to receive the discounted ticket price.

INTRODUCING YOUR

AMBASSADORS

Let’s get excited!! Hopefully our first Bus went to Killington

November 20th! (We have to write these articles in advance, so as I write I am unsure, but people have begun to sign up. It’s a start.) The November 27th Bus location is still TBD as we wait to see what Resorts will be opening over the next week or so. Early season is always up in the air and we want to go everywhere The World Cup was at Killington the weekend of the 25-27, so we chose not to go there with a ski bus (drop off/pick-ups would have been difficult). This month we will begin Weekday Buses too. Hopefully 12/2 and/or 12/9 will start the Weekday crew off! Look at MONDAY 12/12 Founders Day at Mt. Snow - $12 lift ticket! Signups needed by Friday 12/9 so we can order the BUS. Remember, we always need our count 2 days prior to the ski day and we need 21 people for the Bus to go – EXCEPTION is for a Monday or Tuesday date, we need

numbers and will close down PayPal by 4:30 on Friday! For Sundays it is NOON on Friday, for Saturdays NOON on Thursday, Fridays are NOON on Wednesday.

If you have any questions on the procedures,

please see the Policies and Procedures on the website where the bus signups are found. The new website coming online any time now will be easier to navigate, and all updates will be there. Other questions should be sent to us via email at [email protected] – especially since we can be very busy at the table, so we really won’t have a chance to answer questions on the spot. We ask that you email in advance, or save your questions until there is no line waiting. REMEMBER, THE TABLE IS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM.

Eileen Finn-LeMatty & Lynda Heaney

We hope everyone had a great time at the Ski and Snowboard

Expo - with Craft beers the Club signed up approximately 70 new Applicants! Welcome to you all!! Great job OC Volunteers! We know the Warren Miller Movie got everyone psyched for ski season! Loved seeing Warren himself in this one - it has been a few years. Great tribute to Stein Erikson also (those going on the Park City trip can visit the Stein Erikson Lodge at Deer Valley!). The Applicant Party had great prizes as always (thanks to our PR chairperson Marissa C.) – hope you won something fabulous Thanks to Gail, Nicole and Gretchen for organizing the Party.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN RUNNING A BUS OR

3 THIS SEASON, OR JUST NEED A REFESHER ON WHAT

TO DO, WE WILL HAVE A “REFRESHER/TRAINING” MEETING ON THURSDAY DECEMBER 8TH AT 7:00 PM AT THE PCC. ALL ARE WELCOME TO COME, LEARN WHAT IS NECESSARY TO GET YOUR FELLOW OC’ERS TO THE HILL.

We have had some interest in our “Very Special

Bus Committee Assistant” Position!! Donna F. has stepped up, and a few others have volunteered to pitch in too. The more the Merrier! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! Stop by at meetings and let me know what you can help with. Lynda is recovering well, one day at a time, and hopes to be back at the table soon. She will continue working behind the scenes as she is able. Hope to see you on the buses.
