From our Executive Director:

In Pediatrics, we mark a child’s development by milestones. When did your child start walking? Doesshe say “mama and dada”? Can she hop on one foot? Each milestone achieved promises a bright futureof playing, learning and growing into productive adulthood. Any parent knows that this road is markedwith many joys, as well as obstacles and challenges. For the parents of many of LifeSpring's patients, those challenges include unmet basic needs such as food, transportation and safety. These anxietiesmake it difficult for children to thrive. Everyday at LifeSpring, our team is working to helpfamilies overcome barriers and meet milestones that will lead to spiritual, emotional and physicalhealth.

It has been a blessing to see LifeSpring growing just as our patients grow. This year we celebrated manymilestones and were encouraged that God will continue to use us to deliver the gospel in word anddeed. I hope that as you read this update, your heart will be engaged in His work in our midst; that youwill want to join us in the sharing of God’s love and amazing grace.

As this year draws to an end, we are incredibly thankful to those of you who have given of your time, prayers and resources. At LifeSpring, we long to see every child in our community meeting milestonesthat lead to health. Your giving removes barriers and provides high quality, holistic medical services, education, and advocacy in urban Chattanooga. Please consider joining us in this kingdom work bymaking a year end financial donation.

Blessings,

Michele Pickett, M.D. Executive Director

What is a Promotora de Salud? LifeSpring’s Promotora(or Community Health Worker), Eunice Mendoza, acts asan advocate, educator and cultural mediator. But if youasked our patients’ families to describe her, they wouldprobably just call Eunice a friend. Eunice's work as aPromotora includes connecting Latino families tocommunity resources and providing health education, both at LifeSpring Pediatrics and through home visits. Her role opens up unique opportunities to build trustingrelationships with those we serve. When she visitsfamilies in their homes, they feel cared for, comfortableand understood. This breaks barriers and providesopportunities for better communication - which is vitalto high quality healthcare. Eunice believes the workdone at LifeSpring is not just about better healthcare. She says, “...it’s about more than seeing patients and

healing diseases; it’s about healing the heart of the people."

Eunice (right) visits a teenage mom to provide a freethermometer, follow up on her son's medicationand help her enroll in a child development program

A large part of her work includes simplylistening to families’ stories, which often leads to praying with them and sharing the truth of theGospel. At LifeSpring, a Promotora is someone who compassionately and humbly walks beside ourcommunity towards healing, body and soul.
