Dear LifeLong Medical CareCommunity Member,

thank you for all your support inthe last year. We are very excitedto have completed our CapitalCampaign to help build our newWest Berkeley site. Additionalwork on the historic buildingcontinues and we have alreadystarted offering health care inthe beautiful building. this newhealth center will allow us tomeet our community’s needs forhealth care as Health Reformrolls out.

the coming year will be a veryexciting one for Health Reformin our community. We havealready started enrollingformerly uninsured patients into

MediCal. A few will also qualifyfor subsidized private insurancepolicies through CoveredCalifornia. Health Reformcertainly includes transformingthe overall health care system inthe u.S., but for those of us incommunity health centers themost significant impact is in theexpansion of health coveragefor low-income people whowere uninsured in the past.

the health world also continuesto change for LifeLong in otherways. We are working on havingall of our sites certified asPatient Centered MedicalHomes by the nationalCommittee for QualityAssurance. We are aware thatwe provide excellent care forour patients, and thiscertification will helpcommunicate our excellence tothe medical community and thepublic. We are also in the midstof converting our paper chartsto electronic Health Records, a

costly and challengingendeavor, but one that we hopewill improve patient experienceby providing more electronicaccess to care and better toolsfor our doctors and otherproviders.

LifeLong provides criticallyneeded care to over 47,000people each year. We will takefull advantage of Health Reformand embrace new technologyto meet the expectations of ourpatients. At the end of the daythere are still people in ourcommunity who fall throughthe cracks. We believe they alsodeserve good health care andwe count on you to help usprovide that care to those inneed. thanks for making theLifeLong Community a healthyone.

Sincerely,
