prayerlife—International Prayer Request Northern African and Middle Eastern People - "If you sign this paper saying that you recant your decision to leave Islam and follow this other way, you won't have to go to court!" The policeman urges Layla* to sign it. She has been a follower of Jesus for several years. With a tremendous love for the Lord, she has studied and memorized and taught her son Samir* the truth and the way of Jesus. Her son has had his hands caned at school for telling the other children Bible stories. Now his mother has been called to the police station because of reports that she has been sharing with the mothers at the school gate and also with those who come to her home, desiring to know more. Despite her fears, she is adamant. "No, I won't sign! I have found the truth. I'm not doing drugs. I haven't stolen anything. I'm teaching people to love and forgive. I have done nothing wrong." The policeman, not backing down, replies, "I'll give you a week! If you change your mind and sign this paper, you won't have to go to court!" Now her landlord has cut off her family's electricity and water. Her husband, Omar,* who was once supportive though not a believer, has told her to sign the paper. Please pray for strength for Layla and Samir to keep standing firm, and ask that Omar will also give his heart to the One who longs to strengthen him to stand firm as well. (*names changed)
