Life Skills Development: Leadership Assessment Rubric Leadership Area 1: Poor 2: Needs Improvement 3: Okay 4: Good 5: Excellent ROLE MODELING · Is relatively uninvolved and uninterested in the Dormitory Community · Shows little balance between pride in his/her own culture and tolerance of others’ (e.g. showing perceived superiority, etc.) · Has difficulty in making sound decisions on his/her own · Rarely exemplifies the Dorm Values, or only adequately exemplifies one of them · Is reluctant to follow the dorm rules, or has difficulty understanding and committing to them · Shows some interest but is involved only in passing/from time-to-time in the Dorm Community · Shows some pride in his/her own culture but uninterested in culture of others’ · Needs to show more patience and thought when making decisions, and seek advice · Exemplifies some of the Dorm Values, but does not yet seem to know or understand the importance of these values · Follows most dorm rules at a minimal level, but expresses displeasure in needing to conform to community rules · Is becoming more regularly involved in the Dormitory Community, although not yet with sustained interest · Shows some balance between pride in his/her own culture and acceptance of others’ (e.g. some attempt to tolerate others, etc.) · Is learning how to make sound decisions on his/her own, but sometimes repeats mistakes · Sometimes exemplifies the Dorm Values, or exemplifies one or two of them well · Is able to follow most dorm rules without complaint, but still has some difficulty in fully committing to them · Is often involved and interested in the Dormitory Community · Shows a reasonable balance between pride in his/her own culture and acceptance of others’ (e.g. some attempt to appreciate others, etc.) · Demonstrates sound decision- making most of the time, and gradually learns from his/her mistakes · Usually exemplifies the Dorm Values, and exemplifies three or two or three quite well · Follow most dorm rules closely, and accepts responsibility when mistakes are made · Is a regular & active participant in the Dormitory Community, making a strong positive contribution to the overall program · Shows a nice balance between pride in his/her own culture and acceptance of others’ (e.g. shares own culture and celebrates others’, etc.) · Demonstrates sound decision- making with patience, and reflects on the outcomes to learn more · Exemplifies most of the Dorm Values, and tries to spread or model them to others · Understands and follows dorm rules carefully, and models for others to do the same TAKING INITIATIVE · Is relatively unaware and uninterested in any leadership opportunities, even when encouraged · Makes little positive contribution to the Dorm Program & Community · Has little interest in making a positive difference in the community & world, sees little importance in this or little belief in his/her abilities, caring more for what will only benefit him/herself · Is somewhat aware but somewhat uninterested in leadership opportunities · Makes a mixed contribution (positive & negative) to the Dorm Program & Community · Has some vague interest in making a difference in the community & world, and sees some importance in this, but is still too narrowly focused on him/herself · Seems to be taking notice of leadership opportunities when encouraged, and may consider taking one on, but may not yet actively seek them out · Makes a growing contribution to the Dorm Program, but not yet sustained or with purpose · Is learning about positive initiatives, and is starting to understand his/her ability to affect change, but has some hesitation about personally taking action to make a positive difference in the community and world · Takes notice of leadership opportunities, and pursues taking one on with some encouragement · Makes an overall positive contribution to the Dorm Program and is generally supportive of dorm initiatives (e.g. life skills development, events, etc.) · Is open to change initiatives, shows some concern about one or more general issues in the community/world, and has considered taking a few personal steps toward making a positive difference · Actively pursues leadership opportunities with little encouragement needed · Makes a positive contribution to the Dorm Program and is actively supportive of dorm initiatives · Is supportive of positive initiatives, genuinely cares about one or more issues in the community/world, and has taken actual steps toward making some positive difference with a growing belief in the power of an individual
