WelcomeTo the North Tyneside Council Adult Learning Alliance prospectus for all Life-skills andLeisure Choices courses. We believe that learning should be fun and creative so ourcurriculum gives you a wide choice of courses. Tuition is in small groups to ensure the bestpossible support for learners.

The prospectus is divided into two sections:

• Life-skills courses for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities.

• Leisure Choices courses for adults with physical and sensory disabilities and

CHANT courses for adults with communication disabilities including Aphasia.

The Adult Learning Alliance welcomes diversity in its learning environment and valuesdifference. We are constantly striving to provide outstanding support for our learners andeliminate any form of discrimination. We want you to get the most out of your course, soplease ask for any help you may need and we will do our best to support you.

Course information:If you would like further information on any of the courses in this prospectus or you areunsure which is the best course for you ring (0191) 643 8817 and ask for a CourseInformation Sheet.

What we expect from you:Any learner in need of support for personal care or behavioural problems must bring apersonal assistant to every session. Once you get a place on a class you must comeregularly and be punctual. If you miss more than 3 weeks without letting us know why wewill give your place to someone on the waiting list.

Classes include • Literacy• Numeracy• Communication skills and language development (speaking and listening skills and

social skills)If you are interested in joining a class please ring (0191) 643 8817 and we will arrange an informal interview to discuss your learning needs.

Courses:The courses are designed to offer social skills, practical skills, progression and skillsfor the world of work. There are three categories each with a different focus:

1.Sensory coursesThese courses are designed for learners with more complex support needs. Tasks are simple and designed to encourage social interaction as well as learningnew skills.

2.Personal development coursesThe courses in this section combine reading, writing, number and communicationskills with an interesting topic to provide you with a new hobby and increasedconfidence.

3.Step up progression courses and work skillsThese courses are designed to develop existing skills and to learn new skills to helpgain employment. You will need some literacy skills to join these classes.

Entry requirements:If you are new or have not been to classes in the last 3 years you will need to ring(0191) 643 8817 before you complete an enrolment form.

How to enrol:• Check that the course is suitable for you• Write your choices on the enrolment form which must be completed fully• Complete the learner emergency information form

• Courses fill very quickly so it is best to return your completed forms before the end of June

How to enrol:If you have not attended classes previously, please ring (0191) 643 2288 before completingthe enrolment form to arrange an informal discussion around your needs.

If you have attended classes previously:• Write your choices on the enrolment form, which must be completed fully. Please

remember to send a photocopy of your benefit with your enrolment form or write your Priority ease card number on the form if you are claiming a discounted fee or a full concession fee.

• Send your form to: Langdale Centre, Langdale Gardens, Wallsend, NE28 0HG.

• Please check that your Priority ease card is still valid. It is now possible to apply for a permanent Priority ease card.
