Eagle Scout Rank Requirements

Be active in your troop and patrol for at least 6 months as a Life Scout.Demonstrate Scout spirit by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law in your everyday life.Earn a total of 21 merit badges (10 more than you already have for the rank of Life Scout).While a Life Scout serve actively for a period of 6 months in a position of responsibility in your unit.

Eagle Scout Rank Requirements

While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community. MUST BE NON-PROFIT.Take part in a Scoutmaster conference.Successfully complete an Eagle Scout board of review.

NOTE: ALL Requirements must be completed before the Scout’s 18th birthday except the Board of Review.

Achievement and CommitmentTo become an Eagle Scout, the scout must demonstrate that he lives the Scout Oath and Law (and Motto and Slogan) in his daily life.

Scout must be active in the troop.

Attend meetings and troop activities

Work with other Scouts

Participate in Eagle Patrol activities

Scout must have a sincere desire to become an Eagle Scout

A minimum of 5 letters of reference will be required that describe the Scouts ability to live up to the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, Slogan. The Scout furnishes references on Eagle Scout Application.

Upon attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, the scout will take an Oath that commits him to live the Scout Oath and Scout Law for the rest of his life.

Eagle ProjectsAn Eagle Project is a sizable project that:

Is for the benefit of community, church, or other worthy non-profit organization

Involves leading people

Requires a significant amount of planning

Has a lasting impact

The project focuses on Leadership and Project Management. It is the culmination of the Scout’s experiences in Scouting to date.

The organization benefiting from the project may pay for all or portion of the project. Other funds must be raised by the Scout and should include a presentation to a group.

Eagle Project

Must include at least 2 adults (Parents, professionals, Scout leaders, neighbors, etc.)

The work crews may consist of any of the following: Boy Scouts

Other teens (family, friends, etc.)

Adults

Work crews can provide labor for fundraising (car wash, etc.) and construction

Eagle Project - BIG PICTUREAn Eagle Scout understands the entire process of Project Management, from Cradle to Grave.

The Scout needs to:

Be involved in the generating the concept

Make all contact with adults and Organizations

Adapt his plan based on feedback

Learn from mistakes

Plan alternatives

Close out the process in a professional manner

How are Eagle Projects Done?Scout selects a project that conforms to the Eagle Project Criteria. Meets with sponsor.Scout documents concept. Meets with sponsor and Scoutmaster/advisor ASM for approval.Scout plans the entire project. Meets with sponsor, advisor ASM, Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Chairman or rep, and District Advancement Chair for approvalScout executes the plan and completes the project. Scout documents how project went and closes the project. Extra money goes to the project organization or is given back to donors.Scout meets with sponsor, Committee Chair or rep, ASM Advisor and Scoutmaster for final sign-off.

Template for project workbook is on the Troop 57 website. It is an MS Word document. Scout should access it and save it on his computer.

Eagle project advisors are John McGehee, Mike Francher, Dave Remy,Greg Belliveau and Mark Crowley. Eagle advisors work with the scout to ensure that the project planning and execution is done correctly.

Eagle Scout Reference Letters

A minimum of 5 letters are required in order to conduct the Board of Review

Parents

Religious

Educational (Teacher, coach, principal)

Employer

At large (1 or 2 letters)

Letters must come from adults 21 years or older. Troop leaders should not be used except under special circumstances

Eagle Scout Reference LettersThe letters will be requested by the Scoutmaster and must be sent to the Scoutmaster or Advisor in a sealed envelope.Each letter must be numbered on the envelope to the Scoutmaster:

Parents (#1 of 6) Religious (#2 of 6) Educational (#3 of 6) Employer (#4 of 6) At Large (#5 and #6 of 6)

The letter will not be shared with the Scout by the Board. The Scoutmaster does not read them. The reference may share the contents of their letter with the Scout.

Board of Review

In order to schedule a board of review the Scout must:

Complete the Eagle Scout Application and have Scoutmaster submit it to the Tidewater Council along with a copy of Eagle project workbook. A verified application will be returned to the Scoutmaster.

Have all of the requested reference letters in the Scoutmaster’s possession. SM will then instruct the scout to schedule BOR with the Troop Committee Chairman.

Board of ReviewScout must be in full Class A uniform including Merit Badge Sash. Check for:

Board of Review

The proceedings of the board must never be shared. DO NOT ASK what was asked. “What happens inVegas, stays in Vegas”The decision of the board must be unanimous.

Whew! The Board is Over!

The results of the board and the verified application are sent to National through the Tidewater Council for final approval.

Once final approval is received from National, the Scout and his family can plan his Eagle Court of Honor.

If the Scout does not pass the board, the Board may request the Scout return or the Scout can appeal the decision.

Eagle Court of Honor

Contact Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster to develop Court of Honor program. Each program is tailored to the Eagle Scout.

Contact Mrs. Dyche to plan the before / after party.

Contact the Great Bridge Presbyterian Church or other facility to reserve a date for the Sanctuary and the Fellowship Hall.

Eagle Court of Honor

Court of Honor is not held during a troop meeting night or Court of Honor. Unless…

An abbreviated Eagle Ceremony is held that is limited to the Eagle Charge, Oath, and Award.

NOTE: The Eagle Charge and Oath MUST BE administered by an Eagle Scout (adult). If none are available,then the Scoutmaster can administer.
