Water Mist Fire Protection SOLUTIONS

• A water mist system is a fire protection system which uses very fine water sprays (i.e. water mist). The small water droplets allow the water mist to control, suppress or extinguish fires by:

The technology contained in foam extinguishing systems is highly complex and can therefore rarely be summarized in just a few words. As with all other extinguishing technologies, the application or fire load also determines the given solution for foam extinguishing systems. A wide range of guidelines must be taken into consideration for the design and layout of such systems. Extinguishing foam is essentially a mixture of water, foaming agent and air. The mixture ratio of these three substances is adapted depending on the application.The extinguishing effect comes from the heat-resistant foam forming a solid blanket over the flammable materials. This creates a cooling, shielding and suppressive effect depending on the type of foam. The foam isolates the flames from the oxygen supply and suppresses the development of toxic flue gases. Types of Transformers

The Power transformer is a one kind of transformer, that is used to transfer electrical energy in any part of the electrical or electronic circuit between the generator and the distribution primary circuits. These transformers are used in distribution systems to interface step-up and step-down voltages. The common type of power transformer is liquid immersed and the life span of these transformers is around 30 years. Power transformers can be classified into three types based on the ranges. They are small power transformers, medium power transformers and large power transformers.

• There are several transformer types used in the electrical power system for different purposes, like in power generation, distribution and transmission and utilization of electrical power. Electrical Power Cable

A Ring Main Unit (RMU) is a totally sealed, gas-insulated compact switchgear unit. The primary switching devices can be either switch disconnectors or fused switch disconnectors or circuit breakers. Indoor as well as outdoor types of Ring Main Units are available.There are three types depending on the protection (Fuse type and Breaker Type and Disconnection Type).From the isolation media we can say there is 3 types (Air Insulation - Oil Insulation - Gas Insulation with SF6)The rated voltage and current ranges for RMUs typically reach up to 24 kV and 630A respectively.

• A cable used for the transmission and distribution of electrical energy is called electrical power cable. Power cable consists two or more electrical conductors join with an over sheath.

• It is used for the transmission of extra high voltages in a place where overhead lines are impracticable to use like, the sea, airfield crossing, etc. But underground cable is more costly as compared to aerial cable for the same voltage which is one of the main draws back of electrical power cable.

Metering Units

The apparatus used for controlling, regulating and switching on or off the electrical circuit in the electrical power system is known as switchgear. The switches, fuses, circuit breaker, isolator, relays, current and potential transformer, indicating instrument, lightning arresters and control panels are examples of the switchgear devices. The switchgear system is directly linked to the supply system. It is placed in both the high and low voltage side of the power transformer. It is used for de-energizing the equipment for testing and maintenance and for clearing the fault. When the fault occurs in the power system, heavy current flow through equipment due to which the equipment gets damaged, and the service also get interrupted. So, to protect the lines, generators, transformers and other electrical equipment from damage automatic protective devices or switchgear devices are required. The automatic protective switchgear mainly consists of the relay and circuit breaker. When the fault occurs in any section of the system, the relay of that section comes into operation and close the trip circuit of the breaker which disconnects the faulty section. The healthy section continues supplying loads as usual, and thus there is no damage to equipment and no complete interruption of supply.

Metering Units represent the secondary values for the current and voltage transformers. That is Metering Units are the values present at the voltage and current inputs at the back of the meter.

• LVMDP is short for Low Voltage Main Distribution Panel, which means that LVMDP panel works on low voltage current and functions as the main power distributor to all of the electrical installation within a building. A LVMDP panel acts as main control of power within the building (office, warehouse, apartment, hotel, workshop, factory, or house).

An automatic transfer switch (ATS) is a device that automatically transfers a power supply from its primary source to a backup source when it senses a failure or outage in the primary source. When a failure occurs in a primary power system, the ATS invokes a standby power source, such as an uninterruptable power supply. An ATS can also start up more long-term backup power systems, such as local diesel generators, to run electric equipment until utility power is restored. Since the ATS is connected to both primary and backup power sources, it serves as an intermediary between equipment and the power supplies, acting as an electrical relay. An ATS can also act as a redundant, rack-mounted power supply for equipment that is connected to a power source with only one cord.

A circuit breaker is a switching device that interrupts the abnormal or fault current. It is a mechanical device that disturbs the flow of high magnitude (fault) current and in additions performs the function of a switch. The circuit breaker is mainly designed for closing or opening of an electrical circuit, thus protects the electrical system from damage.

• Circuit breakers are mainly classified on the basis of rated voltages. Circuit breakers below rated voltage of 1000V are known as the low voltage circuit breakers and above 1000V are called the high voltage circuit breakers.

• The most general way of the classification of the circuit breaker is on the basis of the medium of arc extinction. Such types of circuit breakers are as follows: -

Energy Meter or Watt-Hour Meter is an electrical instrument that measures the amount of electrical energy used by the consumers. Utilities are one of the electrical departments, which install these instruments at every place like homes, industries, organizations, commercial buildings to charge for the electricity consumption by loads such as lights, fans, refrigerator, and other home appliances.Watt-Hour Meter The basic unit of power is watts and it is measured by using a watt meter. One thousand watts make one kilowatt. If one uses one kilowatt in one-hour duration, one unit of energy gets consumed. So energy meters measure the rapid voltage and currents, calculate their product and give instantaneous power. This power is integrated over a time interval, which gives the energy utilized over that time period.

Types of Generators

Generator is a machine that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. It works based on principle of faraday law of electromagnetic induction. The faradays law states that whenever a conductor is placed in a varying magnetic field, EMF is induced and this induced EMF is equal to the rate of change of flux linkages. This EMF can be generated when there is either relative space or relative time variation between the conductor and magnetic field.
