I am sure you have experienced The Moving Wall™ in Estrella on Thursday, October 2 through
Monday, October 6, 2014. Our community is deeply committed to supporting military families and honoring our nation’s veterans. As we were preparing for The Moving
Wall™, we reached out to the community for stories from Estrella students regarding the Vietnam War. We sincerely thank all students who participated. Here are three articles from students at Estrella Mountain Elementary School. All essays submitted can be viewed on www.LifeInEstrella.com under The Moving Wall™.
The VieTnam WarBy Emma Studley, Age 10, Grade 5th – EMESPresident Lyndon B. Johnson ordered ground troops to Vietnam in 1965. The reason for the order was to help the South Vietnamese and to prevent the spread of Communism.
It is important to know why we went to war, but most of all I want to share with the community who fought for South Vietnam and fought the war.
2,594,000 served in South Vietnam through 1965-1973. There were 7,484 women, 2/3 of the men volunteered to serve in the Vietnam War.
1/10 of the men were either killed or wounded. The youngest man who died in the war was Dan Bullock and he was 15 years old. The oldest man who died in the war was Dwaine McGriff and he was 63 years old. A lot of the men who died were 20 years old or younger.
Over 58,000 brothers, sons, fathers, and loved ones were brave, courageous, and their sacrifice and their family’s sacrifice are greatly appreciated. The soldiers who are continuing to fight in this war and for us and we appreciate them too.
The VieTnam War and memorial WallBy Nate Wright, Age 10, Grade 5th – EMESVietnam was one of the worst wars in American history. It is the longest war that America took part in, lasting from about 1954-1975. The war started because America wanted to support South Vietnam to become its own government, but the North wanted to be communist. America lost 58,151 soldiers in this conflict. On March 16, 1982 work began on the Vietnam Veteran Memorial. It cost $9,000,000 to build and was all donations. The total amount of names on the wall is now 58,272, including some who are still missing. The wall honors all who died protecting freedom.
“War is hell” my Pa’s exPerienceWritten by Emma Barber“War is Hell,” my grandpa, Pa, says. “They murdered many women and children.” Pa, Gary Vogelsberg, served as a combat medic assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in 1969.
“I really didn’t enjoy my year in Viet Nam,” he reflects. “It was my honor to serve my country for my family.”
I asked him how he survived. He lived in a “hootch,” ate regulation army food, and survived, “because Grammy sent me a letter every day and lots of goody bags. I also prayed a lot.”
Landing in America was the greatest day of Pa’s life. He kissed the ground.

Fall is right around the corner. For many of you this means you are going to have the
desire to begin a home improvement project. I know you’re excited, but hold on. Before you begin, there are
some things you should know.
helPful TiPs
Read the Guidelines/Community Handbook prior to submittal for Do’s and Don’ts
Submit an Estrella Modification Application prior to beginning your work
Provide as much information on your application as possible
Do your research and pick a company you feel comfortable with
Any exterior changes made to the home must be approved prior to beginning. This requirement includes roofing, painting, siding, landscaping, etc. The Home Modification Application can be found at the Community Services Office or on the community website, www.lifeinestrella.com, located in the ‘Document Library’.
Once we receive your completed application, the next step is for the application to be presented at the Design Review Committee meeting for review. These meetings are held the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month at 3:00 p.m. at Starpointe. Any additional information you can provide is very beneficial to the Design Review Committee—such as drawings, dimensions, and pictures.
The submittal process is not in place to be intimidating or to discourage homeowners from improving their properties. It is in place to better benefit the homeowners by keeping Estrella a visually appealing community. The professionals on the committee are here to work with you. If you have any questions about the Design Review process or have any other concerns, do not hesitate to contact the Community Services Office at 623-386-1112 and ask to speak with Amy Helms, ECA, VCA Covenants Compliance Coordinator, DRC.

Changes Breathe New Life into Starpointeby Eric Holmgren, Starpointe Manager
Look around and you may have noticed that there are some changes that have been made
at the Starpointe Residents Club. Over the past 10 years, Estrella residents have enjoyed the great amenities at Starpointe. However, during that
time span some of the elements within the building had seen their share of great use. Money in the association’s reserve funds, which was set aside for when these items reached the end of their useful life, allowed for some of these elements to be addressed. With the Board’s approval the changes began to take place at the end of August. Some of the changes you may have noticed are:
• A fresh coat of paint throughout the entire Club• New carpet in the locker rooms• New carpet in the galleries and gallery hallway• New televisions in the fitness center, aerobics
room, café, and library
These changes were not only needed to improve the overall look and condition of Starpointe, but also to keep the amenities within Starpointe up to date. As we move forward, it is our goal to continuously improve the facility so that we, the residents, have something that we can continue to be proud of and continue to enjoy. We welcome your suggestions as to how you think we can improve, whether it be something we should change, an added amenity, or new fitness classes. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected], or give me a call at 623-386-1949 to voice these suggestions.

Communications Committee–The Write Stuff!By Dave Finley, Communications Committee Member
When it comes to living in Estrella, it’s easy to come up with superlatives that help describe our lifestyle. The houses keep
going up and our neighborhoods continue to grow. More people are discovering what we have already found — Life in Estrella.
As resident volunteer members of the Communications Committee, it is our responsibility to evaluate how well our communication methods are conveying information to and from Estrella residents. We have recently updated our Charter to help focus the committee on improving communication channels — existing and evolving — within our community. Information sources include our HOA management (CCMC), our planned community master developer (Newland Communities), Boards of Directors, City of Goodyear and dozens of groups, clubs and special event activities.
There is a lot happening in Estrella! In fact, as the Communications Committee has discovered, it is a
collection of ongoing, unending processes. Life In Estrella Magazine, Life In Estrella web site, e-Blasts, Starpointe informational TV monitors, resident surveys and special announcements and notifications all provide facets of our community’s information voice.
If you would like to be an active part of our community’s information planning process and a regular contributor to our media content (write an article, proof a publication draft, do topical research, attend an event and talk with residents, etc.) then being a member of the Communications Committee might be a great fit for you. If you believe the quality of our community’s information is important and are willing to be an ongoing and positive participant, then please complete a volunteer application form at www.LifeInEstrella.com under ‘Document Library’ then select ‘Volunteer Application’. All completed applications can be dropped off at the Community Services Office or can be emailed to [email protected].

Salute Our Troops run at Estrella Submitted by Newland Communities
The Estrella community provides many opportunities to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. Hosting special events gives
the public the chance to get a sneak peek of our beautiful scenery and more than 20 miles of paths and trails and 500 acres of parks and open space. As we continue to support healthy living in our community, we are proud to announce the return of the Salute Our Troops Run on November 1. The event features a scenic 10k run, 5k run/walk and family fun run on the paths surrounding the lakes in Estrella.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Military Assistance Mission (MAM), a local nonprofit organization that provides moral and financial assistance to Arizona active duty military, their families and wounded warriors regardless of overseas deployment status.
“We are excited to host the Salute Our Troops Run again this year and support healthy living and a fantastic cause,” said Bill Olson, Senior Vice President and Division Manager for Newland Communities. “Estrella
is a community deeply involved in the support of the United States military and our residents and staff take a lot of pride in, and put a lot of work into these types of events.”
Estrella residents have welcomed the opportunity to host this event for a second year with open arms. In 2013, $2,500 was raised through Salute Our Troops for the Military Assistance Mission, providing much needed funds to our nation’s military and their families. The goal is to work with race organizer, Mission Driven Events, to build on last year’s success.
Festival activities include a vendor expo, bounce houses, kids craft area, music, special guest appearances by professional sports team mascots, a military ceremony and Military VIP Lounge for all who have served.
Registration is available online - Estrella residents enter promo code Estrella for a 30% discount on registration. For more information or to register visit: www.saluteourtroopsrun.org.

LANDSCAPE>>>snippets
planting Winter AnnualsBy Four Peaks Landscape Management, Inc.
Now that the brutal summer is coming to an end, all of us who have endured
the heat look forward to heading outside and experiencing why we live in Arizona. If you have installed a winter lawn and it is growing, turn down your water and fertilize after your first mowing. This will help fortify your turf for the winter.
Now is a great time to be in your landscape planting winter annuals. There is a wide variety of flowers that do very well in the winter and provide color throughout the winter months into the spring. Preparation is the key to great looking flowers; a little time now will pay off with great looking plants and lots of blooms later.
Adjust your watering for the cooler weather. Plants are starting to wind down and they do not require as much water as they did during the hot months. Any of your plants that are showing the stress of the summer, go ahead and prune them back a little to encourage some new growth. Be sure not to trim your tropical or frost sensitive plants back too far as the new growth is more susceptible to a freeze if we have a cold winter.
With that in mind locate your frost cloths and have them handy as a frost may be right around the corner. Fall is a great time to be out and enjoying all of the community amenities and activities that Estrella has to offer. We work hard all year to keep the landscaping looking its best for all of our enjoyment.

C ome join the group! It’s a low stress open forum where we
discuss the things that are happening in the world that have
a direct effect on your money. After all, money matters &
Investing is no Picnic, truer words have never been spoken. Did you
know that less than 5% of those at retirement age have enough to
retire or that 90% of the wealth in this country is held by fewer than
4% of the people?
The stock market, real estate, risk or no risk; who knew it would be
this hard? If you don’t understand the world of investing you’re not
alone. Our group is designed to take some of the mystery out, to
inform people of what’s affecting their money every day. The days
of “buy and hold” or blindly contributing to a 401K is over. You can
no longer be disinterested in how money works or turn it over to a
“professional” to manage for you. Truth is: “If you don’t care about
your money no one else will”!
We all face the same unknown future. Will my home value continue
to rise or is there another bubble looming? Am I invested in the right
areas for growth? Will I be able to afford to send my kids to college
and how do I save for retirement?
It’s time to get off your duff and COME JOIN THE GROUP. You
can be an EXPERT or a NOVICE, 18 or 80, all you must have is

The Moving Wall™ half-size replica arrived at Estrella on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at noon. The Wall was escorted into the Estrella
community by The American Legion in the finest way. Once the Wall was on the site the Fighter Country Partnership - Blue Blazers placed the Wall into its temporary home. This was such an emotional undertaking with a few tears flowing, several hugs, embracing and holding hands tightly. Presentation of Colors by the Veterans Pride Battalion – US Navy Sea Cadets immediately followed placement of the Wall, then began the 24 hour, non-stop, reading of 55,000+ names.
fighTer counTry ParTnershiP & foundaTion - luke air force BaseArizona is home to Fighter Country Partnership and Foundation (FCPF). It is the training ground for the
world’s largest fighter base. It’s also where we live, work and raise our families. That’s why for more than a decade, the FCPF has been dedicated to the men, women, families and mission of the
USAF in Arizona. When the community jo ins forces with local and state government, the business sector and the military, a strong alliance is developed and a partnership is formed.
Luke AFB is a $2.17 billion economic engine for the State of Arizona. When you have the world’s largest Air Force Base in your backyard, you’ve got to protect
it. FCPF has done just that locally and in our nation’s capital for more than ten years.
Arizona needs to keep the mission of Luke AFB today and long into the future. To do that, there are six critical mission elements that need continuing support. Unlike any other base in the world, Luke has the ability to:
• Land and takeoff in two directions• Access the Barry M. Goldwater Range

In a large heavy-bottomed saucepan or Dutch oven, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the ground chicken, cubed chicken breast, 1 teaspoon salt, cumin, fennel seeds, oregano, and chili powder. Cook, stirring frequently, until the chicken is cooked through, about 8 – 12 minutes. Bring the mixture to a simmer, scraping up the brown bits that cling to the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Simmer for 55-60 minutes until the liquid has reduced by about half and the chili has thickened. Add the red pepper flakes and simmer for another 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Top with sour cream if desired. Ladle the chili into serving bowls. Sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley and sour cream.

Take your digital DSLR off the “P” (Program) mode and try shooting in “A” (Aperture) mode.
A great photo is created when proper exposure, depth of field, light and composition all come together. Exposure is a combination of aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
There are various ways to create a good exposure, depending on what you want to accomplish. Entire books are written on this subject but, since space is limited I will instead suggest a simple exercise to illustrate the relationship of aperture and shutter speed in allowing the appropriate amount of light to properly expose your photo.
Aperture is measured by F-stops. A smaller number such as F 4.0 means your lens is open wider to let in more light. When you “stop down” or move your F-stop to 5.6 the light entering the lens is cut in half. So the higher the F-stop number, the less light is let in. To compensate for less light your automatic camera keeps the shutter open longer. (All of this
can be done manually of course, once you know the formula.)
Set your camera (preferably on a tripod) to “A” (Aperture Priority) and set the aperture to F 4.5. Take a shot while paying attention to how fast your shutter works. Now, set your aperture to F 11. Take your shot. You can hear how much longer the shutter stays open. Experiment with different F stops until you feel comfortable with the relationship between aperture and shutter speeds. Remember that the smaller the aperture (which means the higher F stop number) the more time it takes for light to pass through the lens to create a good exposure.
The Estrella Photo Group consists of Estrella residents who enjoy learning about and sharing photos. We are DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera oriented.
On the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at Starpointe Residents Club we display our photos in a fine art format. Four photos are selected by our members to be displayed at Oasis Bagels. Photos
are also displayed the following Friday morning at the Estrella Family Breakfast/Coffee Social.
On the third Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at Starpointe we hold educational meetings on a variety of topics. These discussions include photography techniques, getting the most from your camera, photo printing, framing, Photoshop editing and other member suggested topics.
Our goal is to continue to learn to be better photographers, producing quality photographic work and having fun as a group who enjoys sharing our imagination and experiences.
Learning is an adventure! Come and join us.

By Christine Ybarra, Sisters in Stitches Member
Sisters in Stitches have been sewing together for over a year now. Six months out of the year we are ‘Sewing for Babies’ working on special
items to donate to hospitals with babies that are unfortunately not doing so well. Quilts and blankets are our most popular items we gladly make. The remaining six months we have fun sewing projects for the home and for gifts. Maggie is a veteran quilter who shares all her expertise with us. Christine is always looking for new patterns to share with the group and Susan is great at making templates for our new projects. Jan made the cutest steering wheel covers in all types of patterns. Joyce is a pro at table runners and placemats, while we can always depend on Sharon to make the perfect tote. All of
the ladies have the most interesting personalities and it shows in their work. Members include founder, Christine Ybarra, Sharon Billock, Leni Bowman, Susan Cheshier, Jan Gaudutis, Sarah Marley, Maggie Pugh and Joyce Stephens.
We are a fun group of women who have resurrected our sewing skills and are having a blast sewing together. We have all mastered a seam ripper! SIS meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday in Gallery Room 3 at Starpointe Residents Center. We welcome anyone with a sewing machine and a sense of humor! Look for this group’s photo in the November Edition of Life In Estrella Magazine and either give them a call or stop by their next meeting if you would like to join this group of ladies.
‘Twas the day of Thanksgiving>>> celebratinG estrella
By Bonnie Jansson, Estrella Resident
For nine years starting in 2005, there were only a few. Now more than 30 of us meet to walk the lakes before all the festivities begin. We would
stop at Swirls for coffee before starting back, and then one year we brewed our own coffee at the Yacht Club. Since Oasis Bagels has been in existence (4 1/2 years), we enjoy bagels and cream cheese, coffee, tea and eggnog. The Thanksgiving Day walk has become a wonderful tradition.
‘Twas the day of ThanksgivingWhen all through Estrella,Some residents were stirring to go for a walk. They would soon meet at South Lake ParkIn hopes their friends would be arriving. The walkers were nestled in scarves and glovesWhile visions of coffee and bagels danced in their heads. And reflecting on how many years it had beenSince first we started the new tradition.
When out in the lake there arose such a clatterWe sprang forward amid a lot of chatter.Away ‘round South Lake we all did go,And then on to North Lake to and fro.The sun in the blue sky as alwaysGave the luster of morning to objects below. When what to our wondering eyes should appearBut Oasis Bagels in the Market Place, so clear… ...And we filled all our bellies, then turned to say
“thanks.”And laying a finger on the camera button,And giving a nod, back to the lakes we went.We sprang to our feet, to our friends gave a whistle,And away we all flew, like the down of a thistle. But we all exclaimed, ere we
went on our way,HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD DAY!

Estrella rallies for Cancer Crusader>>> celebratinG estrella
By Estrella Resident Jennifer Barber
Eve Cunningham’s day started like any other. Two years ago, the working mom of two teenage
boys squeezed in time for a routine adjustment with her chiropractor. Far from routine, though, was leaving with a
broken sternum. “I had never broken a bone in my life and here, the strongest bone in my body, was easily broken.” Little did Eve know her routine appointment would be the beginning of a life-changing journey strengthening her faith and engaging the power of love from her friends and family.
Eve Cunningham has touched many Estrella lives through educating our little ones whether during her time at Estrella Mountain Preschool or at The Illiad Academy of the Odyssey Academy down the hill.
At just 43 years of age, Eve was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer affecting her bones called Multiple Myeloma IGA. “My shoulder and arm bones were filled with tiny little holes they called a “moth eaten” appearance and it was cancer.” How and why Eve fell victim to this cancer remains a mystery.
She turned to Cancer Treatment Centers of America for help. She journals, “I remember lying in my hospital bed exhausted thinking I just can’t do this anymore and I would begin singing in my head the song, ‘Jesus Take the Wheel.’”
Chemo. Radiation. Countless surgeries. Eve opted for a stem cell transplant knowing the odds of infection, time off from work, and financial stability were all at stake. “The community support I received was absolutely amazing! It brings tears to my eyes. I felt so loved and cared for!”
Hundreds turned out for a fundraiser at our local yogurt shop for Eve. A child at her school made and sold rubber band bracelets raising $100. Another friend held a wine tasting event and silent auction filling a restaurant to standing room only.
Her parents and closest friends tended to her and her daily needs around her home. One friend arranged a meal schedule. Others stayed with her around the clock… even when the pain and anxiety were too much to bear in the middle of the night.
“I feel so blessed because I lived and I got to see and feel and hear directly how much I really was loved by the way my family and friends and the community rallied around me,” Eve thinks back on her fight to survive.
This doesn’t just happen to anyone. Eve is a gentle and caring soul.
On a warm Saturday morning this summer, now cancer free, Eve dropped by Oasis Bagels to pick up breakfast. It must have taken her more than 15 minutes to reach the register - saying “hi” to each person stopping her to find out how she was doing. She’s loved by many and we’ve been rooting for her though Facebook updates, words of mouth, and silent thoughts and prayer. She credits her “village” of family, friends, supportive employers and CTCA for her survival.
“It is too early to know why my life’s path had to take this turn. However, I know at some point it will be made clear to me. In the meantime, I just plan on continuing to love life and the wonderful people in it who make life worth living!”
Eve is hoping to join us for our Estrella Cancer Crusaders 2nd Annual Walk for Awareness on October 18th. To learn more about how her faith and fitness contributed to her survival, please visit our website: EstrellaCancerCrusaders.org. Go to “Faces of Estrella.”

CITY
I am proud to say the morning of Saturday, August 16 marked a great day with the completion of the Loop 303 and Interstate 10 interchange in
Goodyear—another crown jewel for the West Valley.
Loop 303, also known as the Bob Stump Memorial Parkway, was made possible thanks to the great partnership we share with the Arizona Department of Transportation, the Maricopa Association of Governments, and the teamwork of neighboring city leaders past and present.
The concept for the Loop 303 was originally created in the 1980s. Since then, leaders from throughout the region have worked to make the vision a reality and the completed freeway is a result of many years of effort and collaboration.
Governor Jan Brewer, ADOT Director John Halikowski, Federal Highway Administration Division Administrator, Karla Petty, and city leaders throughout the region attended the dedication ceremony of the Loop 303 and Interstate 10 interchange.
It was especially rewarding to see hundreds of residents join the celebration. Although it was a hot day, people of all ages gathered to jog, hike and ride their bicycles along the freeway ramps where motorists would be driving within days.
The interchange will be a great asset for our residents who will enjoy faster, safer and easier commutes throughout Goodyear and to other parts of the Valley, the state and beyond.
The Loop 303 will also stimulate economic growth in our city. Available land along new freeways provides great opportunities for new businesses. Companies are able to capitalize on the influx of new drivers and they will have improved access to regional
transportation corridors that will enhance their delivery of goods and services.
Goodyear is looking forward to this corridor being the home to many more businesses which will provide thousands of quality jobs for our city, and we are confident this freeway will help shape our city’s future.
I want to thank all of our partners who helped make this day possible. I especially want to thank our residents for their patience during construction. I am confident that the convenience of the new freeway will make it worthwhile.
For more information, visit www.azdot.gov/loop303.

practice Child passenger Safety Everyday!By Lisa Kutis, Goodyear Police Department PIO
The Goodyear Police and Fire Departments along with the three elementary school districts within the City of Goodyear recognized National
Child Passenger Safety Week September 15-19, 2014. During that week, Police and Fire Department personnel visited each elementary school during the morning drop off time with child passenger safety information for parents and caregivers. However, the Goodyear Police Department reminds you to make Child Passenger Safety a priority EVERYDAY! Motor vehicle crashes are a leading killer of children and most child passenger safety seats are misused in some way! Avoid the misuse of car seats by following the tips below:
Goodyear Police recommend the following child passenger safety tips:
• Keep infants rear-facing as long as possible, usually about 2 years
• Keep toddlers 2-5 years in a forward-facing car seat with 5 point harness to the upper weight limit of the seat.
• Children must be in a booster seat until 4’9” tall or 9 years of age…It’s the Law!
• Check seat labels for important safety information and expiration dates
• Read the owner’s manual for complete installation directions
• All children ages 12 and under should be properly restrained in the back seat
• Never place a rear-facing car seat in front of an airbag
• Know the history of your child’s car seat• Attend a car seat check up event to ensure your
child’s seat is installed properly! For more information on child passenger safety visit the Safe Kids website at http://www.safekids.org/child-passenger-safety .

‘50s Sock HopSaturday, September 21st, 7:00pm to 9:00pm Starpointe Residents Club Cocktails and Conversations is going back in time! We are putting on our poodle skirts and greasing back our hair so that we can hop back to the 1950s for a good ‘ole fashioned Sock Hop complete with a live band and a car show by the Estrella Mountain Car Club.
‘That Kool Band’ will be out to perform a two hour show that is sure to have you tapping your toes or dancing up a storm. They will be bringing us their show titled ‘At the Hop,’ a musi-cal tribute to some of the greatest Rock & Roll stars of the ‘50s and ‘60s including ‘The Beach Boys,’ ‘The Beatles,’ ‘Dion and the Belmonts,’ and many, many more. They preformed here in Estrella last May and many of those that attended have said they put on a great show so you don’t want to miss them.
Members of the Estrella Mountain Car club will be displaying some of their hot rods and unique car collections at the event, too. This club is a group of 30 residents and guests whose members own over 40 unique automobiles. The years and models of these cars range from current convertibles to exotic imports to restored hotrods. You don’t have to be a member of the Estrella Mountain Car Club to show off your car. If you have a unique or classic car that you would like to display at the event there will be spaces in the parking lot reserved for you to show off your cars, too.
Dinner will include a classic menu of burgers, chips, and side salads catered by Dad’s Catering. The evening’s signature

The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every third Saturday of the month, October through April. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the cooler weather and kick off fall season festivities. Food vendors will be onsite as well as a bounce house for the kids. The Estrella Lakeside Farmers Market is free and open to the public. For more information contact the Estrella Information Center at 623-386-1000.
RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT: TIM RILLEYOct. 2 to noon on Oct. 6. Rilley is also the Executive Officer of a Sea Cadet Corps Unit. This program introduces youth, both boys and girls to naval life through instruction in basic seamanship and leadership. There is also a more rigorous process exposing older participants to a full military training program.
“I wanted to get my Naval Sea Cadets involved in the presentation of colors for The Moving Wall project and was eventually asked to join the committee,” said Rilley. “I am honored to sit on this committee to ensure proper protocol and help with day-to-day planning for the event.” Rilley takes a lot of pride in his service and sees it as his responsibility to share the lessons and history that the Marine Corps gave him. Rilley’s cadets, and place on the committee, allow him to pass along his experience and demonstrate its importance to his own life.
The project has been a very large undertaking but its impact on the community, and more importantly, the veterans in Arizona is going to be very special. “I am so proud of our community for giving those with family and friends on The Wall the opportunity to mourn and pay their respects, it’s going to mean a lot to myself and many others,” said Rilley.
As an outstanding member of this community we thank Rilley and the entire committee for their service and work to bring the memorial to Estrella.
Tim Rilley has lived in Estrella since 2004 and loves his community for its beautiful scenery, fantastic neighbors and access to golf and swimming. Estrella has been the perfect place for Rilley and his wife Debra, a kindergarten teacher at Estrella Mountain Elementary School, to settle down after his decorated military service including deployment in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968.
Rilley’s military service is still a big part of his life and this year he joined the committee to bring The Moving Wall™ to Estrella. The Moving Wall is a half-size traveling replica of the Washington D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial and will be open to the public 24 hours a day during its stay in Estrella from noon on
