Life Cycle Performance and Savings with AirMark® With multi-colored AirMark® pavement markings applied within 8 of the 9 FAA regions, the following information and photographs demonstrate the life cycle performance and savings of using durable AirMark® preformed thermoplastic pavement markings to support an effective pavement marking program. The series of photographs on page 2 provide a visual comparison of performance and durability over the course of one year in a side-by-side evaluation. The photograph below shows the original AirMark® pavement marking at 80 months. During this same time frame, the marking has withstood over 100 snow alerts that resulted in hundreds of broom and plow passes. This performance is consistent with Ennis-Flint’s many years of experience with preformed thermoplastic on roadways and is supportive of an expected life cycle of 8 to 12 times longer than paint when using the specially-formulated AirMark® product for airfields. Actual performance depends on factors such as climate and volume of aircraft movement. The following example is provided for estimating life-cycle performance and savings:
* Based on applying a single surface hold position marking including mobilization, runway closure, administrative, and application costs. Based on the average period of time between each repainting; typical repainting cycles range from an average of 60 days to two years. At each 4th repainting cycle, the example includes cost for existing paint removal before new application of paint. In addition, the real value of AirMark® is recognized when keeping the following facts in mind:
• The homogeneous composition of AirMark® supports long-term performance regarding bond, retroreflectivity, and UV resistance. • Installation method has significant advantages especially in application of multi-color markings that are typically labor intensive using paint;
more markings can be applied during the time of runway closure.
