YOUTH GROUP

We've had a great term enjoying nights like Team Challenges, Back to kindy, Messy Games, Karaoke, Mini-golf and End of year Sleepover. Youth Group success is in our leaders and our youth, and growing those relationships with each other and with God. We've been truly blessed this term with an amazing team- Jenny and Paul Gaggi, Paula and Tim Nicholls, Anni and Steve Cramb, Tim Griggs and myself, and growing leaders like Matt Cramb, Katelyn and Lucy Nicholls and Merryn Gaggi. Each of our team are engaging and enthusiastic, hilarious and kind, giving and gracious.

We've partnered with Neville Hoadley ('Big N'/Nevstar) as our prayer warrior. Big N prays for each of us (youth, their families and leaders) on Wednesday mornings at Lifeworks Prayer Group and during the Friday night program. We are grateful for his willingness and his prayers.

We look forward to 2018 and the presence that Youth Group can have within Lifeworks and our community. We'd appreciate prayers for our youth, their families, our team and new leaders.

Downs Presbytery @ Lifeworks During weekend of 24-26 November, Lifeworks hosted the Presbytery of the Downs for their meeting. Along with Lifeworks reps (Derek Curnow and Kerrie Andrews), Lifeworks Minister (Tim Griggs), and Lifeworks members (Presbytery Minister- Neil Thorpe, Presbytery Secretary- John Case, Hospital Chaplain- Marg Thorpe), we were joined by 50 members from across the Downs region and Synod centre, from congregations, schools and community service agencies. On Friday morning, we hosted a special Communion service and morning tea for retired Ministers and spouses. On Friday afternoon, we hosted the Safe Ministry with Children training for Ministry Agents. Friday night was an amazing night as we had 90 people participant in Cafe Church. Delegates then met in the building throughout Saturday, to review reports and activities of the Presbytery, as well as to spend time in discussion and prayer. The lovely kitchen facilities were so much better for preparation of meals and snacks than were available at Russell Street. Members of Presbytery were generous in thanking Roslyn Prestridge and the large team of helpers over the weekend. At the closing service on Sunday morning, Presbytery guests were impressed by the gifts and talents of Lifeworks members, and stirred to action by the passionate message delivered by Presbytery minister, Neil Thorpe. Across the weekend, there was a strong emphasis on exploring God's mission across our Presbytery region. These were really exciting conversations, as we heard amazing stories and we creatively discussed various topics around resourcing strong missional aligned congregations, rural and remote ministries, developing specific networks and regional mission areas. We heard from Nicole Irwin about her positive experience with the Period of Discernment process, and where she feels God calling her. We said farewell to Rev Andrew Gillies and the family, as they conclude ministry at St Stephens UC, and prepare to begin ministry at Karana Downs UC in 2018. We heard of Rev Sunil Kadaparambil accepting a call to a Patrol in South Australia. Sunil will conclude ministry in Cunnamulla and across Burke and Wills Patrol area in the next few months. Sunil and Eva will be missed by many.

Please pray for all of these congregations and communities as they explore future ministry.

EVERYTHING IN COMMON

GIFT CATALOGUE (UnitingWorld)

Each Advent season, Lifeworks holds a gift stall to raise awareness and funds for UnitingWorld and its overseas partners. Gift cards will be available for sale. You can help these mission agencies respond to poverty and injustice in overseas communities, this year again with an emphasis on the South Pacific region. From providing poor farmers with beans, f4ertilizer, animals, nutritional supplements, school supplies, school fees, school accommodation for girls, homework assistance, clean water, hygienic toilets and training for women. These gifts are transforming for these people, their families and communities. They can provide educational, income or skills training opportunities. These could be a Christmas gift that change lives. Buy a gift before 15th December, and dedicate it to a loved one and spread twice the joy! Annette Curnow will have the Everything in Common catalogue and gift cards for sale. CHURCH COUNCIL OF ELDERS REPORT

The CCE resolved at its November meeting to encourage Rev Tim to take time for exploring the ways ahead for partnership programs with other agencies, clubs and groups. To facilitate this, the Elders have asked Tim to give the message on two Sundays each month until Easter. The sermons at other services will be given by Rev John Case and Rev Lyn.

Building extension: the CCE resolved to engage with UCIS for a loan to help cover the cost of the extension on the building. A congregational meeting to seek approval will be held.

CCE resolved to proceed with an in principle partnership agreement with the Flourish PYO group which is seeking the use of a small portion of our land to create a community garden. We will allocate a portion of land in the northeast corner of the block between the

house and Boundary Street. Work will start soon on a shade structure to

allow compliance with requirements for Outside School Hours Care. This will happen at the South East corner of the church building. A photo slideshow is being put together for the Christmas Party on December 17.If you have any photos of church events/activities that could be included in the slide show, please email them to Matthew Prestridge. [email protected]

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION! We are aiming to draw up an events calendar for 2018 which will include the activities of as many groups as possible. It will be good to have a ‘whole’ view of what is planned across our church, so that any further planning of functions/programs can be spread evenly throughout the year (rather than have some months jam-packed). If possible, we would appreciate having any dates you can provide us with by the end of January. Thank you!
