Kite making in 1C

In Year 1 we have been using our science and DT skills to investigate the best materials for making kites. So far we have tested tissue paper and sugar paper. We found out that the paper tore too easily so next time we are going to test plastic. We have to make our kites exactly the same each time to make it a fair test. Jack “I had fun making my kite. I had lots of fun running around with my kite too. My paper tore which made my sticks fall off. I don’t think paper makes good kites” Jacob “You have to run really quickly with your kite to get it to fly high” Dominik “I didn’t tie my string very well to my kite, next time I will

add some sellotape to make sure it doesn’t fall off.”

Coin exploring in 2BH

This week in maths we have been exploring different coins and using them to make different amounts. We have been using the £ sign to help us write these different amounts. Our school computer network by 5M

When someone wants to log in the data has to travel to the switch: ask the switch whether it’s allowed to go through to the sensor and ask if that username and password is valid on that computer: the data travels back to the desktop computer it comes from; if their login is valid it allows them in, if not they have to put their login in again. Millie 5F The data only have 1 link to travel on so it forms traffic in other words. It’s like a tram going up a road and it collides with the tram going down the road. There’s only one railway so they collide which can make their computer load very sslllowwllyyy! Hippolyte 5F

Science in 6B We made posters on ‘how we see colour’. You see them by wave length the blue end they are the same length but wider, and red end they are a lot thinner. Oliver 6B

We did an experiment on Wednesday it was how we bent light round angles, not through solid objects, so they reflect. We cut out shapes and shined a light through so it would make pictures on the wall. Elliana 6B

English in 4CM

These last two weeks we have been playing pentatonic scales, including the famous Chinese song 'Jasmine flower'. We are now composing our own pentatonic scale pieces of music with control and accuracy. In English we are looking at writing stories from another perspective and enjoying telling our own versions of well known fairy tales.

Football victory for Phil & Jim!

Huge congratulations to our Year 6 football team who won U11 National League Football Tournament. Not only did they demonstrate outstanding skill but they also showed great sportsmanship throughout. Now on to the next round of the tournament! Details to follow. Girls Football Tournament On Friday 30 November a team of girls (Celia, Joss, Juliette, Londi, Mila, Madeline, Rocio and Saskia) from Year 6 competed in a girls' football tournament. In our group games we won all our matches - 4:1, 9:0, 1:0. We got to the semi-final and had a tough match; it went into extra time and we sadly conceded two goals, so we lost 0:2. The tournament was really fun.All together the team played really well, making tremendous attempts at goal, and successfully scored a total of 14 goals in the tournament. Joss, Mila and Juliette – Year 6

Class page content

PTA news The Annual Phil & Jim’s PTA Calendar is now on sale! Pick up your copy on the school gate next week for just £5, or complete an order form and drop at the school office with your payment by the 29th November. Thanks for supporting our school! As you might know, one of the most anticipated events that we run at school for Christmas is the ‘Christmas Bazaar’. The children are able to shop for presents for their family and themselves and hopefully keep it a secret until Christmas Day! The Bazaar takes place during the usual school day and this year it will be on Friday, 14th December. On the day of the Bazaar, please send each of your children to school with a maximum of £2.00 to spend and a carrier bag to collect their purchases. Each class will be brought to the Bazaar to shop by their class teacher. Items will be priced 10p, 20p, 50p and £1. What else do we need? We need donations of at least 10 items from each child, which we then use as the stock for the children to buy their ‘secret family purchases’ on the day. Examples, include small items, from toiletries to Christmas candles, sweets, pens, pencils, toys, socks, books, bags, jewellery etc. are all acceptable. We need good quality, new or nearly new items as remember, whatever you donate may come back as a family present! There will be boxes in each classroom to receive the gifts. Please bring the items to school latest Wednesday 12th December.

In order to make this event a success we need helpers on: Thursday 13th (9am-12pm), sorting session, this is when we reorganise all the donations so that each class has a similar range to choose from at the sale. Friday 14th (9am-12pm and/or 12-3pm), selling items to the children.

If you can help please get in touch with Delia ([email protected]) Thank you for your help!

Dear parents and carers, As you can see from the photographs showing some of the learning that has taken place in school, we have had a wonderful week. Teachers are keen to share as much as possible with you and so we are in the process of developing the class pages and blogs on our website. Teachers are being trained to update them and from the start of the Spring Term, teachers will be regularly updating blogs so you can see some of the learning taking place in school. Class blogs may contain some photographs of children learning and therefore, if you are happy to give consent, please could you do so via the photograph permission consent form that was sent to you earlier this week via ParentMail. Thank you. Miss Banfield has created a guide to using class pages (above) which signposts some areas of the website that you may not have explored. If you were in Oxford on Friday 16 November you will know how wonderful the Light Night Lantern Parade was. Some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils had a great time at the Parade. They sang and danced their way around the streets of Oxford with over 300 children from other schools. Their legs and arms were a bit tired by the end, but they had a lot of fun! You can see some photos of the event on the website. We have now completed coffee mornings for all year groups and I hope those of you who were able to attend, found them useful. It has certainly been lovely to talk to parents and listen to your thoughts and ideas. As promised, Sarah Hiner has updated the website and has shared a little of how she spends her time supporting pupils and families. We have planned coffee mornings for the Spring Term (please see calendar below) - it would be lovely to see you there. Finally, at the end of this term we are saying goodbye Mrs Peta Philips and Mrs Michele Reed who are joining schools closer to home. We are also saying goodbye to Ms Aoife Walsh who is our Office manager. Ms Walsh has an exciting new position at Corpus Christi. We wish them all the very best in their new roles. Yours sincerely,

Sarah Awuye Headteacher
