ABOUT US

There’s nothing ordinary about our graduates. Uncompromising on quality, we look for the same in our graduates. We are seeking talented and ambitious individuals who possess good commercial awareness, are excellent communicators and are highly motivated.

3Lidl HR Director

“Our graduates are very important for the future growth and development of our business. Bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm they put theory into practice, whilst developing their management skills in a retail environment.”

At Lidl, we encourage initiative, with achievements being recognised; this is supported by our promise that internal candidates come first in all career opportunities. In fact, nearly all our senior professionals started their careers in store operations and have successfully progressed in career paths such as Sales, Property, Warehouse and a wide range of Head Office positions.

As an established international retailer, we offer exciting opportunities to kick-start your career in a fast-paced environment, both within the UK and internationally.

Our programmes are designed to train retail managers of the future, but how far you go is ultimately up to you.

HINTS & TIPS

With an array of graduate opportunities available, we want our graduate applicants to have the best recruitment experience. We want to recruit the best people to fit into our organisation, but most importantly we want to ensure that you have considered us to be the right choice for you.

Hints & tips.

To help with this decision and to guide you before and during our application & selection process, we have put together some hints and tips that are detailed below:

1. Visiting a Lidl store is a great place to do some research on our business. With over 590 stores across the UK it’s not hard to find a store close by. Here you can speak to our friendly store staff, see our product range and experience our frontline operations first hand.

2. Visit our website where you can find further details on our careers and what we can offer. You can also view our products and services to understand our market place.

3. Come and visit us in person at one of the graduate campus activities we will be taking part in this year. Here, you can speak to recent graduates who have joined us and get from them first hand information on our graduate opportunities and ask the important question – “What is it like to work as a graduate at Lidl?”

4. When you complete your application, we will expect to hear your well researched views on what attracts you to this unique environment, your aspirations to work with us and what a graduate position within Lidl would mean to you.

5. Because we offer graduate positions across the UK, when completing your application make sure you tell us in which geographical location you would like to work and if you are flexible in this choice. You can refer to the map on page 29 that details our regions and UK Head Office location to help you.

6. First impressions are vital so as your application with us progresses you will need to demonstrate your understanding of us, our products and our place in the market.

7. In your interview tell us what you experienced when you visited one of our stores. We want to know your views on our products and services and it will show us your commercial understanding of our business environment.

Q&As.

24

“Which graduate position should I apply for?”

We encourage you to apply for the graduate opportunity that you can commit to and that suits your current skills, strengths and possible experience.

“Is German essential for all graduate roles?”

Fluency in German is not essential for all our graduate roles, however it would be advantageous for further development should you move business functions or work internationally.

For specific, specialised roles such as our Graduate Manager Buying, International Traineeship and certain Head Office Graduate Manager opportunities, fluency in German is a pre-requisite.

“How flexible do I need to be?”

We require our graduates to be as flexible as possible. As an example, if you are successful in an Area Management position we will always try to place you close to where you currently live, however this is not guaranteed. We may place you where you will receive the best training and development or ask you to move to an opportunity if required. For our other roles flexibility may be necessary, but this would be discussed depending on your role, its location and the specified training plan.

“What is the deadline for submitting my application?”

All our programmes have individual deadline dates which are detailed at the bottom of each programmes’ relevant page within the brochure (please see ) or alternatively please visit our website www.lidlgraduatecareers.co.uk for further details. All programmes with a closing date will re-open in September 2013.

“When and where will the interviews be held?”

We hold regular interviews for our Area Management and Graduate Manager Store programmes. These are held regionally at one of our eight Regional Distribution Centres (see map opposite for locations).

If you are successful to stage 2 and 3, we will always invite you to attend a recruitment session at the RDC nearest to where you live. For our other graduate opportunities, the position will determine when and where the interview would be held.

“When will I hear a response?”

Our aim is to respond to your application by letter or email within 28 days of receipt, when we will communicate to you if you are successful to the next stage in the graduate selection process.

Please find below some answers to frequently asked questions about our graduate recruitment.

We take our social and environmental responsibilities as seriously as we take our business. We’re committed to keeping you up-to-date with the positive steps Lidl is taking, especially in terms of environmental issues, sustainability and healthy eating. Some examples of our proactive work are:

Lidl & the environment .

Coolants

Environmental best practice is a core consideration in every aspect of our business. Our Company utilises the Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme (The ECA Scheme) to ensure our refrigeration plant conforms to energy efficiency standards.

Emissions

Reducing emissions is very important to Lidl. We carefully plan all our deliveries to ensure no unnecessary fuel consumption occurs and always aim to deliver the maximum amount of products possible for each litre of fuel we use.

Looking to the future

Biodegradable bags, more efficient delivery techniques and investment in low carbon emission technologies are further stepping stones towards leaving a greener footprint for the future.

Recycling

We estimate that in the UK we recycle approximately 42,000 tonnes of cardboard and plastic each year. At Lidl, we continue to work closely with our suppliers to help develop innovative packaging solutions that eliminate as much of the unnecessary packaging as possible.

Lighting

Our store warehouses, staff welfare areas, Regional Distribution Centres and office buildings are equipped with motion sensors and intelligent lighting systems that activate the lights only when required, helping to conserve energy.

Carrier bags

We pioneered encouraging our customers to re-use their plastic shopping bags by applying a small levy. By doing this we have saved the disposal of millions of plastic bags.
