What are LICE? Really Itsy Teeny Tiny Insects

(the size of a sesame seed!)

A louse (single lice) is brown or grey, with 6 legs…but since they’re so small, it might be hard to see them!

Lice LOVE us! In fact, they need us to survive!

… Why ???

Page 3: Lice aren’t Nice

LICE ARE PARASITES! Lice CLING to our hairs, making a new

home!

They drink our blood, sort of like how Mosquitoes do, but in smaller amounts.

But Lice don’t leave after they feed like mosquitoes do; they can live on our body for a VERY long time if we don’t fight back!

Who gets lice?YOU!

Your classmates!Anyone!

Lice love everyone! They like girls, boys, clean people, smelly

people, 1st graders, adults, and so on…

DO I have Lice? Well, you may be able to tell something is

wrong by a few signs: You’re scratching your head lots

because you’re itchy! Tickling feeling moving around on your head

You have small, white, beige, or brown blobs clinging to your hair.

These blobs are mostly around the neck and behind the ears and they’re hard to take out!

HOW do you get lice?

Page 7: Lice aren’t Nice

How do you get lice?People get lice from sharing combs, brushes,

hats, clothes, headbands, sleeping bags, pillows,

and much more…

Anything that sticks to the lice on someone else’s head can easily be transferred to your head if you touch that object after!

Lice CANNOT Jump or Fly!

Eww…How do I get rid of Them?

TELL AN ADULT! (your parents, teacher, principal!)

They will help remove the insects from your head with special shampoo and a comb bought from the pharmacy.

Don’t forget that if you do get lice, you must clean your pillows, toys, bedding and clothes too, just in case the lice are hiding!

Look for nits in your siblings and parent’s heads too!

So Remember, Share Things That Are Nice, Which Means

NO LICE!
