ASSOCIATION OF STATE DEMOCRATIC CHAIRPERSONS

I. Background

A. Overview

This report is based upon an audit of the Associatio~

of State Democratic Chairpersons (tlthe Committee") undertakenby the Audit Division in accordance with the Commission's auditpolicy to determine whether there has been compliance with theprovisions of the Federal Campaign Act of 1971, as amended (titheAct"). The audit was conducted pursuant to Section 438(a) (8) ofTitle 2 of the United S~ates Code which, at the time of the a~~it,

directed the Co~mission to make fro~ time to time audits and fieldinvestigations with res?ect to repo~ts and statements filed underthe provisions of the Act .

The Committee registered \~ith the Federal ElectionCommission on Dece~ber 3, 1976 in support of Democratic nomineesfor Federal elections, and maintains its headquarters in Washi~gton, ,D.C.

The audit covc~ed the period January 1, 1977 tnroughSepte~.ber 30, 1979 f the fi:1al co\,·erage date of the most recentreport filed by the Co~~ittee at the time of the audit. TheCommittee reported an opc~ing cash balance on January 1, 1977of $-0-, total receipts for the period of $3,100,984.61, totalexpe~ditures for the pe~iod of $3,088,653.46, and a closing c2shbalance on SeptcIlJ)c:::- 30, 1979 of $95,009.53 . .!/
