Libreville Léon Mba international airport has experienced strong growth in recent years. With almost 940,000 passengers in 2015, the airport is a reflection of Gabon’s dynamic economy. Growth has been driven largely by international traffic (representing almost 2/3 of total passengers).

The international airport of Libreville provides an excellent coverage of principal destinations within the Central African and West African sub regions, and provides a privileged link with key hubs in Western and Eastern Europe (Paris and Istanbul), North Africa (Casablanca), East Africa (Addis Abeba) and South Africa (Johannesburg).

Established in 1988, the close partnership between state and private shareholders, including Egis, works within a positive dynamics aiming to satisfy all stakeholders, in particular passengers and airlines, that consider Libreville as an airport that meets their expectations in terms of services and international standards.

CHALLENGES

> Establish a recognized air transport hub in Central Africa.

> Remain an airport of reference for the quality of its service

> Investment ■ Complete renovation of all air

fields (runways, taxiways and parking) for 2016

■ Project to extend and modernise the terminal for a capacity of up to 1.7 million passengers by 2020

■ Renewal of runway facilities (boarding bridges)

■ Extension of city side services (parking, car hire, services buildings….)

> Future development ■ New international links

consistent with priorities defined in the Emerging Gabon Strategic Plan 2025

■ Non- aviation services

> Raising operational standards ■ Service quality plan over a

5 year period ■ Airport Carbon Accreditation ■ Airport safety certification (ICAO)

Economic assets

> Libreville: ■ Libreville, the capital of Gabon, is home

to almost half of the country’s population.

The city is serviced by a port which is

linked by rail to the main mineral deposits.

The service sector in Libreville has been

developed as a complement to Port-Gentil

which is largely focused on hydrocarbon

production.

■ The international airport, situated very

close to the city centre, benefits from fast

and easy access to the business district of

Libreville.

■ Gabon with its policy of dynamic economic

cooperation (with France, Morocco, Turkey,

Qatar, Maurice, China…) and stable

environment has successfully encouraged

the establishment of many international

companies.
