eReader Updates Now is a great opportunity to take a look at your unit eReaders in Moodle and think about what new material could be added to them, or what old material could be removed to keep them up to date with the most relevant and useful information for your students. Portions of many of the new books included in the Library Newsletter over the last year would be great to have in your eReader. Previous editions of the Library Newsletter can be found in P:/Library/Library Newsletters/2014 so you can remind yourself of the great new titles acquired by the Library this year. Please review your unit eReaders and submit any new inclusions, removals or other changes to Kerrie ASAP so they can be ready for the first day of classes in 2015…

New Items This is a listing of new books added to the collection during the last month. Item descriptions are taken from ‘back-of-the-book’ descriptions and due acknowledgement is hereby given. If you’d like to borrow anything, just let your local librarian know… (contact details are at the end of this newsletter).

Art and Soul: generating missional conversations with the community through the medium of art / Sanders. This book surveys ‘Art and Soul’, a course that teaches people who suffer from depression and anxiety to paint, and introduces youths, refugees, prisoners and other at-risk people to art in order to better connect with their own personal narrative. 261.57 SAN Bourgeois Babes, Bossy Wives, and Bobby Haircuts: a case for gender equality in ministry / Bird. This text offers an engaging, incisive perspective on biblical gender equality and the egalitarian view – a preference for allowing women to hold teaching and leadership positions in ministry. 261.14082 BIR Church History: five approaches to a global discipline / Daughrity. This lively book not only unpacks the history of Christianity, but also explains how church history is created and organized. 270 DAU Cleansing the Cosmos: a biblical model for conceptualizing and counteracting evil / Warren. This unique study proposes a biblically-based model as the first alternative to a ‘spiritual warfare’ framework for dealing with the demonic, thus providing insights for preaching, counseling and missiology. 235.4 WAR Effective Pastoring: giving vision, direction, and care to your church / Lawrence. This text answers such practical questions as: What are the essential ingredients for pastoral authority? What steps can a pastor take to avoid pastor-elder conflicts? How do you build trust between a pastor and a board? How do you determine a church’s purpose? What is the pastor’s role in developing vision? 253 LAW

This text is a clearly written and insightful treatise on this crucially important part of the Bible. 222.11077 COL The Gospel at Work: how working for King Jesus gives purpose and meaning to our jobs / Traeger. This text unpacks the powerful ways in which the gospel can transform how we do what we do, releasing us from the cultural pressures of both an all-consuming devotion and a punch-in, punch-out mentality, in order to find the freedom of a work ethic rooted in serving Christ. 248.88 TRA The Half-Life of Facts: why everytrhing we know has an expiration date / Arbesman. This text can help us find new ways to measure the world while accepting the limits of how much we can know with certainty. 501 ARB The Impact of Traditional Beliefs Concerning the Spiritual Worlds on Discipleship in Churches in Vihiga County / Symons. A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Theology of CBCS, this dissertation examines the continuity and discontinuity of African beliefs and Christianity. This text unfolds the glories of returning to the body as the place where God has come from in Christ to restore our lives. 261 FRO Is There an Author in This Text?: discovering the otherness of the text / Sutcliffe. This is not a Christianized hermeneutic but an answer for the Christian hemeneut. The interpretation of any written discourse is problematic, and this is the concern of this book. 220.601 SUT Issues in Society / Healey.
