copycards and compUter LabsCopycards for the library copiers may be
purchased at the Circulation Desk. Photocopiers are located on the first, second, and fourth floors of the library.
There are two computer labs in the law library. Both labs are available to all law students while the library is open. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the library. Use your UALR account in the labs or to access the wireless network. Contact Computing Services (324.9995) for assistance.
The librarians and staff of the UALR Law Library
provide a wide range of services and facilities
to support the study and research needs of our law
students. We welcome student suggestions via the suggestion
box in our reading room or through our website.
LegaL information resoUrcesThe library provides access to a wide range of
materials in a variety of formats. Students may check out many of the books, audios and videos owned by the library using their library cards.
If the Law Library does not have an item you need, ask about Interlibrary Loan. It is usually possible to borrow a book or obtain a copy of an article from another library free of charge. In some cases we may be able to obtain the material the same day via electronic delivery. Contact Jeff Woodmansee to place an ILL request.
The electronic indexes and databases provided by the library are accessible via the library website or Themis, the online catalog.
Individual electronic titles are cataloged and may be accessed through Themis. In-building access to electronic resources is available to all library users. Remote access to these resources is also available to students through the library website and Themis. Select a source from the list then enter your last name and your T number at the prompt.
Law students have unlimited access to Lexis and Westlaw for academic purposes. Access is by password only. CALI lessons, online tutorials covering almost 40 legal subjects, are available at the CALI website. You have to register for CALI access. If you have questions about Westlaw, Lexis or CALI access please contact Melissa Serfass.
stUdy aidsThe law library collection includes several
popular study aids. These include the Black Letter Series, Understanding Series, Examples &
Explanations, and Nutshells. There are also several titles available on CD and audio cassette. Find them through Themis or ask a reference librarian for assistance.
LeisUre reading and movie coLLections
The library has a collection of leisure reading materials on the “Good Reads” book shelf located on the first floor wall just past the Circulation Desk. This collection consists of recent legal fiction and an eclectic selection of non-fiction books.
The library’s movie collection can also be found in the same area of the first floor. If you need a break from studying, please take a look at our selection of law related movies. These books and movies may be checked out for a two-week period.
stUdy areasLibrary users will find numerous study areas
throughout the library. There are tables, open carrels, sofas and easy chairs for the use of all library patrons. Our limited access spaces include closed carrels and group study rooms.
Closed CarrelsClosed carrels are available to upper level law
students. They may be reserved by completing an application at the circulation desk. Law students may occupy carrels for a semester. Law students will not be assigned to private carrels; however, students may request preferred carrel mates. Students are eligible to apply for a carrel if they are:
• completing a project that fulfills the upper level writing requirement;
• Law Review students who are working on a journal project; or
• UALR law graduates studying for the Arkansas bar exam.
Group Study RoomsThe law library has 10 group study rooms which
may be reserved by student groups for the purposes of legal research or law school class work. Students may reserve library rooms on a first-come, first-served basis in person or by phone, no more than 24 hours in advance. While most study rooms are designated for group use only, three are also available for individual study.
The rooms may be reserved for up to three hours, but may not be continuously reserved in advance by members of the same study group. When reserving a room, all members of the group must sign in. The purpose of this policy is to make the rooms available to as many patrons as possible, especially during times of high demand. Groups may extend for another three-hour period at the end of their time if no one else has reserved the room. The library will hold room reservations for 15 minutes after the scheduled times; the room may then be signed out to another group.
food and drink poLicySnack foods (but no meals, please) and drinks
are allowed in all library areas except the computer labs and book stacks. Please clean up and report any spills to library staff immediately. Please “pack it in, pack it out,” disposing of all food and beverage refuse outside the library. The use of all tobacco products is prohibited in the library.
