For better or worse, life is full of decisions and forks in the road but I am gratified that I have had a good career, spending my time around books and people who appreciate reading and knowledge. I trust that libraries will always be places of sanctuary where anyone can use some or all of the services provided, even if it’s a place to sit quietly and contemplate. In this fast-paced world, everyone needs a place to disconnect, take a deep breath and regenerate. Libraries fulfill that need by being a public space where people may meet others to converse, share and even disagree. You can think of the library as an “oasis of the mind”, here when you need it. I certainly hope libraries continue to serve the needs of the public for many more years to come. We have a New Librarian!

Kacy Guill has accepted the position of County Librarian. A native of Oregon, Kacy completed her Master of Library and Information Science at the University of Oklahoma. She has worked in special collections, archives, and records management at Eastern Carolina University, the University of Colorado as head of special collections, Manzanar National Historic Site (collection development and interpretive tours) and the Shaw Historical Society as a librarian at the Oregon Institute of Technology. Kacy will begin her new position in June. The staff, volunteers, and Friends of the library are eager to welcome her and we look forward to working with her to keep the Trinity

County Library functioning smoothly!

Library Celebrates 100 years!Over four hundred people helped us celebrate our 100th year at the Trinity County Library November 9, 2016. We served carrot cake, chocolate cake, coffee, and lemonade. The library was filled with balloons; Tareth the service dog brought us a bouquet, and there were 100 colorful commemorative balloons, enough for each child to take one home. We also had special centennial bookmarks for each

person. Jay Underwood read stories to approximately 40 children and they each chose a free book to take home.

New Homebound ProgramAre you a homebound resident who receives meals from Golden Age Center? Would you like to sign up for free delivery of library books? We are starting a new outreach

program to bring the books to your door. Ask the person who delivers your meals for a Homebound brochure. Fill it out, and tell us what you like to read and who your favorite authors are. Give the brochure to the person who delivers your meals or to Kit Porritt at the Golden Age Center (623-2324), or have someone drop it off at the library. And soon the library will deliver books to you at the same time that you receive your meals!

Come to WEE CHICKS Story time

Thursdays 10:30-12:00Join us for Wee Chicks, a program designed for children ages 0-5. The program features new and classic picture books. Julie Feely coordinates the program, and engages children with songs, dances, and finger plays. Julie always has a fun age-appropriate craft at the end.

Jay Underwood, who often reads to the Wee Chicks, was story reader to approximately 40 children during the library centennial celebration, and was a big hit!

Thirty-six children brought their stuffed animals to the library during the centennial celebration for a weekend slumber party. Once the kids left, the animals magically came alive in the library! Staff and volunteers took photos of the animals as they had fun after hours. The animals ate pizza, got into the ice cream in the freezer, read books, played games, watered (and ate) the plants, tried to fit into the book return slot, and other fun shenanigans.
