Meet Your
Hello from sunny Austin! It has been a busy and wonderful summer for me! I am honored to begin my time as only the 12th Director of the Longhorn Band, and excited to see each of you when you arrive. The history of the Longhorn Band is one of determination, imagination, aspiration, and excellence. Each of us has the opportunity during our time on the Forty Acres to make a positive contribution to this legacy, and I can think of no greater experience than to be a part of the great work that each of you will do. Each of you have worked hard to become (and remain) a student at this great institution, and because of those experiences, you know exactly what to do to succeed in your desire to be a part of the Longhorn Band. Practice your instrument/flag/baton carefully and intelligently, master the marching fundamentals, memorize Texas Fight, and do all of it with confidence! In addition to our traditional shows (Pregame, Wall-to-Wall Band/Shotgun Texas, Script Texas), we will perform The Final Frontier (Star Trek: Into Darkness and Star Wars), LHBack to the Future (in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the film), and the Best of Austin (music of Austin artists). There are a few other things that will be revealed along the way, so stay tuned! With just a few short weeks to go before the beginning of the 115th Edition of the Showband of the Southwest, we can feel the anticipation building! Do everything you can to put yourself in the best position to succeed. All of us want to see each of you achieve your dreams! It is going to be a great year for the Longhorn Band. Hook ‘Em Horns! Dr. Hanna
Greetings, Longhorn Band prospective and returning members. I’m thrilled to welcome you, along with my colleagues, to the 2015-2016 edition of the "The Showband of the Southwest!" For those of you who are returning, you have a great sense of what's in store as another year of LHB is about to begin. You'll remember the sights and sounds right away while having the special responsibility of enculturating the new members of our LHB family. You are the bridge between the past and the new generation of students who are about to step foot on this amazing campus for the first time. Your position in this organization is unique and integral to the continued successes of this program. I can't wait to see the personality, quality, and professionalism that each of you bring to the LHB this year. For those of you who are prospective members, you have the opportunity to join a legacy as a member of one the highest quality performing ensembles to ever step foot in a concert hall, football field, or performance arena of any type. This lineage of quality is one of the many traditions here at UT and we are thrilled to see you continue to add to it. During this time, your preparedness should only be overshadowed by your desire to learn and participate at the highest level. You will learn not only from your faculty and staff, but also from your leadership and your new colleagues as well. Remember, everyone you meet was once new and had the same questions you will have. Embrace every opportunity you have with a great attitude and deliberate preparation and significant results will be never-ending.
Hello Prospective and Returning Members! I hope you are having a relaxing and enjoyable summer, and like me, are counting down the days to the start of Texas Football and the 2015 Longhorn Band! By trying out for LHB, you are auditioning for the opportunity to be part of one of the greatest organizations on the campus of UT Austin, and one of the most iconic college marching bands in the country. There’s no question that being in the Longhorn Band is a very special and unique opportunity, and we’re excited to see you in August.
Directors
Just like it will be for many of you, this year will be a new experience for me as well, as this year will be my first as Associate Director of the Longhorn Band. For three years (2011-2014), I served as one of the many teaching assistants for LHB. I then moved to Florida last summer, and have been serving as the Director of the Marching Knights at the University of Central Florida for the past year. When I was given the opportunity to come back to UT and rejoin the Longhorn Band family, I couldn’t possibly refuse. I am thrilled to be coming back “home” to be with all of you next year! When you arrive in August, the first few days of band week will seem like a blur. But remember this: we will work hard, because we have an obligation to always perform with our best foot forward. And even though the work is hard, you will be surrounded by some of the greatest people on the Forty Acres who want nothing more than to help you succeed. We’re going to have a great time, and I look forward to seeing you soon. Until then, rest up, enjoy your summer, and we’ll see you in Austin in just a few short weeks! Hook ‘Em! Dr. Kelly
While you prepare to embark on either your first or fifth year as a member of this prestigious organization, I encourage you to explore all facets of The University of Texas Bands. Whether it's auditioning for one of the many concert ensembles or our basketball and volleyball pep bands, there are new and exciting opportunities each year for everyone to be a part of. As a new member of the faculty here at UT, I'm excited to have the opportunity to work with, learn from, and learn with you all. I am honored to join my colleagues in welcoming you to the LHB and look forward to meeting you soon. Hook 'em Horns! Mr. Gall
Greetings!
It is a pleasure to welcome each and every one of you, returning members and aspiring new members alike, to The University of Texas Bands. The University of Texas at Austin is the capstone of our state’s higher education system, and likewise, the Longhorn Band is the premier group of it’s kind in the nation. This is going to be a special year for all of our UT Bands, and the Longhorn Band in particular. It won’t be long until the drum cadence begins to speed up, the roll-off hits and the strains of Texas Fight! will again be reverberating from the walls of Darrell K Royal -Texas Memorial Stadium.
New members will quickly learn that among the things that you need to be concerned about are your academic studies, time management and your personal integrity. You will learn that the Longhorn Band really is a large family, and as such, you will meet many wonderful people who are here to help you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help should you need it! Your college years are going to be filled with many wonderful opportunities and choices. Though you have heard it before (and perhaps didn’t believe it) your college years really will be the best years of your life. Pack everything that you can into the moment!
On every college campus, there are only a handful of traditions that are truly enduring. The Longhorn Band is one of those truly special traditions. From performing before over 100,000 plus fans each weekend in DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, to providing the official ceremonial music for The University, to serving as The University's musical ambassadors throughout the nation, the Longhorn Band is a highly valued representative of this great university. The friendships that you make here are what make life worth living. You will have the time of your life! I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes:
For me, a memory of a Texas childhood is synonymous with a memory of The University of Texas in the early 1920’s. For it was then that my father, an English Professor at The University, would take me up the long staircase to his office in Old Main and lift me up over the piles of books and papers to look out of the windows. I loved to watch the old people (he called them “students”) far below, walking past the grassy open spaces and big oak trees and bluebonnets to lots of wooden buildings. I thought, “This is the best place.”
Three quarters of a century later, grassy open spaces, bluebonnets, and wooden buildings and Old Main itself, have given way to the Tower and scores of handsome edifices, and the 3,000 or so “old people” have been succeeded by more than 45,000 students. After a lifetime love affair with this institution, as a student, father of students, and a member of the Board of Regents, I know that I was right when I looked out of the windows of my father’s office in Old Main. This is the best place.
~Thomas Law, BA ‘39, LLB, ‘42
I look forward to meeting all of you in August.
Hook ‘em Horns!
Jerry Junkin,
Director of Bands
From The Director of Bands
Hello Longhorn Band Prospective and Returning Members!
I hope that you all are having exciting summers, and are even more excited to join us in the fall! We have a lot to look forward to with the changes that are happening within LHB and UT, and a great marching season ahead. The shows and events that we have lined up for the fall will make for an unforgettable year!
Our first three marching clinics in Arlington and Houston were fantastic! If you haven’t had a chance to make it out to any of our clinics so far, check out the information on our website for the remaining clinic in Austin. We have a great group of Section Leaders and returning members that want to see you join this organization! If you don’t have the opportunity to make it out to a clinic, don’t fret. We have plenty of videos online going over all of our fundamentals, and there will be plenty of time during band week to practice.
For those of you that I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet, let me tell you a bit about myself. This year will be my 4th year as a Mechanical Engineering major, and my 16th year watching Spongebob. I was lucky enough to land an internship with Accenture for the summer, so I am currently working in Chicago as a consultant. As for my origins, I am from Houston, Texas, so naturally I am a die-hard Rockets fan only when they’re winning and in the news. I am a saxophone player at heart, but I couldn’t be more excited to lead the band on the field as the Drum Major. My job is to give you all the tools and help that you need to succeed as a member of the Longhorn Band, so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or simply want to chat! (Facebook/Email: [email protected]) I hope that you enjoy reading about the rest of our leadership team, and I will see you soon!

Silks My name is April Barthold (my friends call me Stitch, my enemies call me Experiment 626), and I am a fourth year Advertising Major and in the UTeach Urban Teachers program for English Education! I crashed here from the planet San Antonio with my alien sidekick Simon (he takes on the disguise of an earthling house cat most of the time). This summer I’m staying in Austin to take some classes and work with a program called Breakthrough Austin, where I get to teach Reading and Language Arts to incoming 8th graders. I’m hoping to explore the city, eat some sandwiches with my pal Lilo, and take some trips with my friends and family. I can’t wait to meet y’all and become one big ol’ Silks Ohana! If you have any questions, feel free to add me on facebook or email me ([email protected]). This year will be good… yeah… still good. Tookie bah wah bah!
Aloha, My name is Heather Henry and I am a Senior Communication Studies Major from Houston. This summer I have been interning with Ronald McDonald House Charities as well as traveling a little bit. I’m hoping to travel to Florida so that I can catch some waves! Not quite a Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride but pretty close! I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone who is auditioning for LHB! The Silk Section always has a lot of fun, and this year will be the best one yet! Feel free to add me on Facebook or email me if you have any questions ([email protected]).
Hi friends! My name is Ashley Dolan and I am so beyond blessed and excited to be returning for my fourth year as the feature twirler of the Longhorn Band! I am a senior elementary education major from Denver, CO, and I love this university and this organization with all my heart! This summer, along with spending time at home with family and friends, shadowing teachers in two local elementary schools, and training for baton twirling regionals and nationals, I have been secretly perfecting my singing skills. I would now like to present the world’s next mega pop star: A. Swift!!! As you embark on this exciting new chapter of your life, things may get intense, but we keep cruising can't stop, won't stop grooving…It’s like we got this music in our minds saying, "It's gonna be alright.” Longhorn Band is one of the best decisions you will ever make ‘cause we never go out of style, we never go out of style. I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling (almost) 22, and I am so stoked to meet each and every one of you!!! I’ve got a blank space, and I’m so ready to write your name!! Enjoy the rest of your summer, and get ready for the time of your life!! Hook ‘em Horns!!!
Feature Twirler
Big Flags Hello everyone! I’m Justin “Professor Portal” Kosley. I’ll be a senior chemical engineering major from Sugar Land, Texas. Since this January, I have been working at a chemical plant in Houston using my teleportation powers to get where I need to be to avoid any and all physical activity. Instead of climbing to the top of distillation columns, I just teleport there. I’m excited to teleport back to Austin for my last year and can’t wait to meet all of you walking humans. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] with any questions!
My name is Danny Bacic, and I am a Big Flag section leader. I am, without question, the hottest section leader, and this is mostly due to my laser vision, which is a power that I have had all my life. This capability doesn’t really help me much this summer since I’m working as a camp counselor and SAT tutor. It does cause some interesting situations, however, especially for things like movies, art exhibits, and staring contests. If you look into my eyes, they will burn into your soul. Try it sometime this year. Before you meet me, you can contact me at [email protected] or (972) 740-‐1727 anytime, from anywhere. Hook ‘em!
Hi, I'm Kate (MindMeddler) Knapp and I'm one of the Big Flag Section Leaders for this season! I'm an English Major with a French Minor which means I can control the minds of anyone who speaks either of those languages! I am currently heading into my 3rd year at the University and with LHB and I've been a Big Flag for all 3 of those years! I worked at Build-‐A-‐Bear Workshop this summer and being able to control the minds of those cranky kids made the job so much easier! My goal in life is to be an Editor at a top Publishing Firm or to just use my mind control powers to save the world, whichever pays better after college! I can't wait for this season of LHB to begin and for me to reunite with the JKED League to fight crime (and untimely flag maneuvers)!
Hello everyone, my name is Emily (AKA: time twister) Plaza. I will begin my fourth year at UT in the fall as a human biology pre-‐med major. This summer I honed my time bending super powers in Houston, TX. I used my powers to get a job, volunteer at two local hospitals, study for my medical school admission test, apply to medical school and spend time working out. In any spare time I get I enjoy painting, watching TV, or cooking for my family. My powers have definitely helped in making time for all my activities but I can't wait to finish up my last year in Austin. Feel free to contact me with any questions at [email protected]
Piccolos Hi, I am Roxanna, of House Martell, Unbowed, Unbroken, Unbent. Although Dorne is my home, I was born in San Antonio, Texas. This summer, I worked part time with property management company, where I kept the realm of Austin properties safe from the backstabbing Lannisters and flying dragons. I also spent many hours under the sun in Cancùn and Galveston beach, while simultaneously plotting my revenge against House Lannister, because baby, we’ve got bad blood. (P.S. I love Taylor Swift). Send a message to [email protected] if you have questions! I look forward to meeting all of you!
"I am Sarah, of House Targaryen, first of her name, the unburnt (okay, maybe a little sunburnt), born in the land of San Antonio, residing currently in the realm of Round Rock, Khaleesi of Netflix, breaker of chains and mother of dragons (aka, my Dachshund). When I’m not trying to take what is rightfully mine, I study History in the school of Liberal Arts to become a high school teacher after graduation. This summer, I've conquered many TV series on Netflix, adventured to the Texas coast, and spent multiple hours plotting to take back the Iron Throne. Send a raven to [email protected] if you have any questions. I look forward to an exciting fall semester! Valar Morghulis."
Winter is coming. And by that I mean in six months we may see the temperature in Austin dip down below 40 degrees. Greetings, my name is Josie of House Stark and I have been spending my summer in the northern stronghold of Seattle, Washington. Most people think I'm here for an "internship" in "mechanical engineering", but really I am plotting my upcoming attempt at overtaking the iron throne. In my free time I like to spend hours researching pet-‐friendly apartments and doggie daycares for the dire wolf that I hope to adopt in the near future. That is all for now, but if you wish to contact me in the coming weeks I can be reached at [email protected]
I am Shub, of House Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock. I reside in Austin, Texas but am currently working a summer internship with an oil company named Oxy. When I’m not using my outrageous amount of wealth to get what I want (as I am a Lannister), I love to watch TV, hang out with friends, and get lots of sleep. If you dare pose any questions, send an email to [email protected] and I’ll try my best to help! After all, a Lannister always pays his debts. I'm excited to meet you all!
Greetings everyone, my name is Mackenzie of House Tyrell and I have been spending my time this summer in the Highgardens (it has been raining quite frequently) of Austin. I am taking classes at The University of Texas only to make me more suitable as the Queen of Westeros. I am enjoying my time here helping others in the city (shadowing physician assistants) and helping my family keep to their motto of “Growing Strong” (getting prepared for football season!). In my free time, I enjoy binge watching Netflix and going paddleboarding on the lakes of Westeros. If you would like to contact me anytime in the near future, you can reach me at [email protected]
Greetings, Masters. I am Ben Zein, the illegitimate son of Ned Stark (I’m originally an oboe player) and Brother in the Night’s Watch (aka Kappa Kappa Psi, the National Honorary Band Service Fraternity). Since I was raised with the Stark children, I received a proper education (I have a BA in Government). However, my learning will continue as the Oath of the Night Watch is binding for life (I will be starting a degree in Music Education). As for now, I am patrolling the Wall (running around Austin’s Town Lake), learning the History of Westeros (re-‐reading Harry Potter), and saving the North from the White Walkers (working Longhorn Music Camp). Send a raven to [email protected] if you are attacked by Wildlings (aka Taps Stride), want to join the Watch (aka want music advice), or fear that the evil Joffrey will chop off your Father’s head (SPOILER). Remember, Winter (Band Week) is Coming!
Clarinets Heyo Clarinets! My name is Emma and I am a fourth year music education major from your very own Austin, TX. I like laughing a lot, drinking water, and singing opera in my apartment (y'all should try it). I'm very excited to begin my second year as a Section Leader and see some smiling returning faces as well as new ones soon for our upcoming Band Week! GET PUMPED AND HOOK 'EM! I picked birthday cake ice cream because if I had the choice I would eat cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Hi beautiful clarinet people!! My name is Bianca Padavick and I'm a 4th year Music Education major! I was born and raised in Austin, TX and I never want to leave! I enjoy painting, organizing, teaching kiddos music and chillin' by the pool with friends! I can't believe it's my 4th year in LHB and I really could not imagine my life without my band family :) I'm so excited for all prospective members because you are in for a treat! Speaking of treats...my blue bell ice cream flavor that I picked is Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. I honestly just love this flavor and I usually just eat all the cookie dough and leave the rest of the ice cream!! Hook em and send good vibes to Blue Bell!
Hey everyone! My name is Amber Rose, and I am extremely excited to be one of your clarinet section leaders for the upcoming year! When I’m not updating my Spotify playlists or looking for the nearest food truck, I spend most of my time studying chemistry and writing lab reports at the best university there is, UT Austin. This summer you can find me in my hometown, Nederland, TX—it has a windmill! I’ll be visiting with friends and family and working alongside some awesome people in the Infection Prevention department at Baptist Hospital. Oh, and when Blue Bell ice cream makes its comeback (which is hopefully sooner than later), I’ll be searching for Strawberries & Homemade Vanilla ice cream! I mean, can there really be any better combination than that? All desserts aside, if you have any questions/concerns about LHB or anything at all, you can always reach me at [email protected]. I look forward to seeing all of you in August! \m/ Hey y'all! I'm Chanse Morris, and I'm really excited to be one of
your clarinet section leaders for this season! I'm from Houston (H-‐Town hold it down), and I'm a 2nd year Music Studies Major. This summer I will be spending time with family and friends, and I will also be giving clarinet lessons to students in my local area. Longhorn Band is a huge family, and I can't wait to meet all of you guys! Other things in which I'm interested include cats, crocs, classical music, and you guessed it: Cookies n' Cream ice cream! It's simply the best ice cream out there, besides the whole listeria thing. Anyways, I can't wait to see all of you at band week! Hook 'em!
HEYYY! My name is Kason Bakouris, and I am delighted to be one of your clarinet section leaders! I am a third year from Weatherford, TX majoring in Music Education. My summer has consisted of teaching young clarinets at my high school and delivering pizzas to ungrateful rednecks. I love getting to know people and spending pretty much all of my free time with others – so come talk to me! If I were to be reincarnated as a tub of delicious Blue Bell ice cream, I’d have to pick pistachio almond because along with loving all things green, I can be a bit nutty. If you need to reach me for anything, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and get ready for all the excitement to come!
Saxophones Hey guys! My name is Ryan Fahmy, and I’m a former Aerospace Engineering major who will be a third year Psychology and (hopefully!) Neuroscience double major. I’ll be in Austin all summer attending school like a good student. Aside from the saxophone, which to our knowledge is still the most magnificent instrument ever to be bestowed upon the human race, I also play some piano and guitar. I’m also a big TV guy; some of my favorites include It’s Always Sunny, Spongebob, Parks and Rec, The Wire, and Community. I’m extremely excited for each and every one of you who has decided to become a prospective member for Longhorn Band, and I hope to meet and get to know you all at the clinics over the summer and band week. Hook ‘em!
Hello Everyone!
My name is Karla Rios (roll the r’s) and I hope ya’ll are having a fantastic summer! I am entering my 4th year at UT studying Social Work and Government. This summer I am interning for a law firm and a non-‐profit organization that gives legal advice to underrepresented populations as well as studying for the LSAT, so I hope you are out and about having fun on a beach somewhere or practicing. When not playing my saxophone or doing LHB related things, I spend my time with the University of Texas Mariachi playing the violin, watching Game of Thrones, shopping, playing with my dog, salsa/country dancing, or eating yummy Colombian food! I hope you are getting pumped and excited for auditions. I cannot wait to meet ya’ll. Hook’em!
Hello! My name is Kaci French, I was born and raised as an “Austinite,” and I’m a 3rd year Neuroscience major. I’m a firm believer that Blue Bell ice cream WILL return, and when it does, the first gallon that I shall devour will be Peppermint Bark ice cream. It’s also DELICIOUS to make milk shakes with F.Y.I. Lastly, if you have any questions about Longhorn Band business, need advice for school, or you simply just want to hang out in Austin before camp starts, please feel free to e-‐mail me at [email protected] as I would love to help you with any of those things! Hope the rest of your summer is extremely fun-‐filled and I look forward to hearing about all the adventurous, exciting and/or relaxing things you all did! Hook ‘em!
Hey everyone! My name is Luke Hollifield and I'll be going into my fourth year as a member of the longhorn band and my first year as a section leader, and I couldn't be more excited! I hope you all have wonderful summers, and I can't wait to see you all in August!
My name is Jonathan, and I’m one of the trumpet section leaders for the upcoming year. Although music isn’t my chosen career path, I try to push myself musically every day. Thus, if I was any sea creature, I’d probably be an angel fish. I’ve got a lot of colors to me, but at heart I’m a musician. I’m in LHB and the Symphony Band, I study at McCombs School of Business, and wakeboard every week through Texas Wake. I love living in the beautiful college playground that is Austin, Tx, but I’m a Dallas guy. If anyone has questions or concerns, I’d love to hear from you—[email protected]. See you in August!
Hey Trumpets! My name is Morgan Paiga, I'm a 3rd year Music Business major from Austin. I'm a pretty easy guy to talk to and get to know, so I encourage you to come say hello if you see me around! Some of my hobbies include: playing trumpet, eating, playing basketball, weight lifting, ultimate frisbee, and occasionally video games. If I could be any sea creature I would be a one hundred and fifty year old sea turtle, because "well, you never really know, but when they know, you know, y'know?" (Tell me where this is from and you get a very special high five!). Anyways, I am super excited for this year! If you have any questions at all, please shoot me an email at [email protected]
Hey Trumpets! My name is Matthew Brady. I am a 4th year Mechanical Engineering Major from Liberty, Texas. I am looking to apply mechanics to robotics or prosthetics after I graduate. My hobbies include Ultimate Frisbee, tennis, yoyo, and video games (Super Smash Bros and Halo). I am working this summer with National Instruments in Austin, designing and testing the hardware they put electronics in. If I could be any sea animal, I would be a sea otter that holds hands with friends while I sleep so I don’t lose them. If you want to get to know me or have any questions about anything (I really mean anything), don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected]. See you in the fall! Hook ‘em!
Hey Band! My name is Jeff Bell, and I am so excited to be one of the trumpet section leaders next year! This will be my second year both at UT and in Longhorn Band. I’m still awaiting confirmation, but I hope to be studying Computer Science starting this fall. If I could be any sea creature I would probably be a narwhal because they’re pretty long and awkward, and I’m pretty tall (6’5”)… and awkward. Also, they’re just awesome because who doesn’t love the idea of a sea unicorn.
Trombones OH, YEAHH!! My name is Tucker Wood and I am extremely excited to be one of your 2015-‐2016 trombone section leaders. I am a senior Aerospace Engineering major from Austin, and this summer I'll be living the jug life. when I'm not busting through walls serving the world with delicious Kool-‐Aid, I'll be working on campus as well as getting my pilot's license so maybe one day I can break the ultimate wall...the sound barrier. Oh Yeahh!! Some of my favorite things are jumping in puddles, Pokemon, not walls, Arrested Development, The Last of Us, Tyrion Lannister, not walls, and LHB. I also really enjoy shows with super heroes and reading comics. Deadpool is one of my favorites because he breaks the 4th wall. Oh Yeahh!! For real The University of Texas is an amazing place filled with awesome people and LHB is truly the best way to get acquainted with this new and crazy world. I can't wait to meet you and if you have any questions please contact me at [email protected] Hook'em!
Hi, my name is Sung, and I'm super excited to return as one of your trombone section leader for the upcoming year! I'll be a 5th year chemical engineering major, and I'll be enjoying my summer off by doing lots of cooking, exploring Austin (and maybe the country), exercising, and cranking out some funky tunes with my brass band, Interrobang. Like a nice warm cup of coffee in the morning, I'm excited to get you guys ready and energized for this upcoming semester! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at [email protected] or any of the other section leaders!
Hey trombones! My name is Matt and I am a second-‐year Mechanical Engineering major from just down the road in Austin, TX. This summer I am studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain for 5 weeks and coming back to continue work as a research assistant with the Metamaterials & Plasmonics Research Group in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UT. In my free time I love hiking, camping, playing Ultimate Frisbee, and pretending to be able to play other sports. I’m really looking forward to meeting you all later this summer and making sure you enjoy your first year as much as I did. I can’t imagine my first year of college had I not done LHB and gotten to join this awesome trombone family! If you need anything at all feel free to email me at [email protected]. Don’t forget to practice this summer too!
Hey bones! I’m Meredith, and I’m a third-‐year Advertising major from Coppell, Texas. This summer I’m lifeguarding, teaching little brats how to swim, becoming an expert on the federal government and the plight of Mexican-‐Americans throughout history, spending a week in mountains, and getting my basic on with yoga and comfort colors. And flower crowns, apparently -‐ I mean it makes sense since I’m basically obsessed with Californian things. California Pizza Kitchen, Robert California, California-‐style shutters… The list goes on. But I digress! I love reading, knitting, tumblring, hiking, doing handstands, yelling at people in Italian (shameless plug), and canriding. This fall I’ll be taking my first portfolio class in the Texas Creative Program, so if ever you find yourself in need of a study buddy at 3 am on a Wednesday night, I’m your girl. Beyond excited for you guys to come join us this year -‐ it’s such a blast!! As you can tell from the photos, we really love to mix it uparound here… Anyway, enjoy the rest of your summer -‐ but don’t forget to get Texas Fight down, because you’ll be playing that s*** ad nauseam during Hell Week. If you’ve got any questions, don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected] with them!

Hello there! My name is Mac Whaley and I eat waaaaaay too much cereal. This is partly due to do my undying love for milk. Anyways, I am a fifth-‐year Neurobiology and Pre-‐Pharmacy major who enjoys cashews for lunch and can appreciate a well cut lawn. This summer I will be working at a Wal-‐Mart Pharmacy, taking classes, and hopefully crushing the life out of a PCAT exam. While I’m not busy, I love to cook (not counting cereal), exercise, and watch puppy videos. Email me any questions at [email protected]. I’m really looking forward to seeing all of your shining faces in August!
What's up guys!! I'm Carlos Rueda and I'm a 2nd year Finance major from San Antonio, Texas. Eh...What can I say, everyone wants to do the dew. But the dew can't be dewing everyone! However, I can't say I love the drink as much as I love the commercials, because I always appreciate something that stands out and gives me a good laugh . On another note, This summer I'll just be simply working a job and taking some classes on the side. I'm extremely stoked to be one of your section leaders next year and I'll make sure to make every second of it worthwhile! I am looking forward for the experiences that are in store for you all and I can't wait to be teaching you guys and facilitating your first years here at THE University of Texas!!! Being in LHB was a huge reason why my freshman year was unforgettable and I hope you guys will be able to say the same.Get ready to initiate the best 4 years of your life!! If you have any questions feel free to email me at [email protected].
SOBS Wud up SOBs!
My name is Abby, and I am really excited to be one of your SOB section leaders, this year!! I am a third year Music Studies Major with a Vocal Emphasis from Bryan, Texas, and my favorite Super Smash Bros. character would have to be Kirby. I mean seriously, he swallows people! Who doesn’t love swallowing an opponent and then jumping off the edge of the course? Besides hanging out with the SOBs, I enjoy singing in the UT Concert Chorale, playing my instrument for the UT Basketball teams (especially the Women’s team), crafting, and hanging out with my cat all day. This summer I will be conducting one children’s musical and choreographing another, all while juggling summer classes. I am really looking forward to the upcoming year and can’t wait to see y’all at band week. If you have any questions about the SOBs, LHB or life in general, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. HAGS, and don’t worry, Taps stride isn’t as hard as it looks.
Hook ‘Em, Hi guys, my name’s Evan Duncan and I’m a fourth year sociology major from right here in Austin. This summer I’ll be working in Austin and continuing to enjoy all that the city has to offer. When I’m not fighting pirates and sailing across the sea, I can usually be found in the studio working on my mixtape. Comin’ out soon. Should be fire, yo. You’re coming to a really fantastic city and more importantly an excellent university. Your first year on the Forty Acres has a lot in store for you so I hope you’re ready to soak in all that you can from your first year in college. Try and hit the gym at least a couple times before you get here, our baritones are bit heavy. Other than that, just get as good as you possibly can at Texas Fight! It’s something we play somewhat frequently. If you have any questions about the audition process or just general information about what you can expect when you get here, feel free to shoot me an email at [email protected], I’d be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. I hope you enjoy the rest of summer and I can’t wait to meet you when you get here. Get excited, this should be a lot of fun.
Tubas Hey there, hi there, ho there, TUBA!s. I am Chris Gonzales and I will be one of the four guys serving as your section leaders the 2015-‐2016 school year! I’m a fourth year Psychology major from just down the street in San Antonio. When I’m not shopping with Donna or giving Kelso a makeover, you can find me in the gym just working on my fitness, or at any of the various eateries unique to Austin negating said fitness. Be sure to brush up on your scales and marching technique this summer and hopefully I’ll get to see you in August!
Greetings TUBA!s, my name is Gunnar Dubke and I’ll be one of your friendly neighborhood section leaders for the 2015-‐2016 school year. I will be a 5th year Civil Engineering major hailing from the humble hamlet of Orange, Texas. When I’m not doling out candid life advice and giving swift kicks to the you-‐know-‐where, I can be found doing engineering things, watching TV, showcasing my sub-‐par athletic ability through various sports such as racquetball and basketball, and going on adventures with my TUBA! brethren to find and consume the most unhealthy food in Austin. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or any of the other section leaders. I’m looking forward to meeting all of the new members, and I can’t wait to have the privilege of working with y’all next year! Have a fantastic summer!
Hello first years! My name is Matthew Shea and I am privileged to be one of your four TUBA! section leaders for the 2015 football season. I will be a second year Aerospace Engineering student from the humble suburb of Carrollton, Texas (about as exciting as Point Place, Wisconsin). When I’m not hanging out in the basement with fellow TUBA! friends or coming up with crazy government conspiracies you can find me with the Aerospace student group, watching Netflix, or embarking on the great food quest that is Austin. If you have any questions about LHB or UT in general, feel free to call/text/email me. I can’t wait to see you all in August and I look forward to blaring our awesome TUBA! sound on the field!

I’m a 4th year Chemistry major from McAllen, Texas located in the beautiful Valley in super south Texas. Things I enjoy to do besides study my life away are exercise, play sports, achieve my goal of becoming a Pokémon Master, and getting rabbits unstuck from trees so that they can return to the wild and lay their eggs. If ever you all need help with anything, be it band or school, feel free to ask any of the section leaders as we are here to help and also be your friends! Percussion Karina Pieratt aka “Sun Baby”
Being the oldest of the drumline section leaders, I have to keep these crazy kids in line, hence why I am the sun baby! And also, yellow is the best color. I am a 5th year in Mechanical Engineering and this summer I have been interning with Boeing in Seattle. I cannot wait to come back to Austin, see you wonderful people, and start a new amazing year with LHB and the drumline!! If you have any questions about the drumline, or about balancing LHB and engineering please shoot me an email!! [email protected].
See y’all soon! \m/
Dipsy Here! I am a 3rd year petroleum engineering major and the snare section leader for Texas Drums. I am currently spending my summer as an engineering intern with Denbury Resources in Conroe ,TX. Hey Texas Drums! I’m Alec Eickbusch and I’ll be the tenor drums a.k.a. TQ6 section leader for this season. I’m from Round Rock, Texas and I’m a third year Electrical Engineering and Physics major. I love music, drumming, and good BBQ. If there is one thing that I hope you will learn as part of this drumline it’s that TQ6 is a state of mind. This year is going to be awesome; we’ll have new drums and I know the line is going to be clean. I can’ t wait to get the season started!ruiz
BOOM SQUAD! That’s everything you need to know about me, my section, and quite frankly, all of LHB. As long as you understand that, you will fit right into LHB. If you think you’re Boom Squad material, I hope to meet you at the drum camps or during hell week. Whenever I’m not busy bringing the BOOM, I’m doing electrical engineering and computer science stuff or playing football (the one with your feet, we do it differently back home in New Mexico). If you’re planning on auditioning for the Squad or have any general LHB/Texas Drums questions, send me an email at [email protected]. Also, in case you didn’t get it, we on the Boom Squad play bass drums and follow us on twitter @UTBoomSquad.
HEYO! I'm Maddy Braat, I'm a 3rd year music education major, and I'll be your Bertha Crew Section Leader this year. When I'm not impressing my celebrity friends such as Beyonce, Snoop, and half-‐naked Matthew McConaughey with my unbelievable Bertha-‐hitting skills, you can find me trying to play the bassoon or ordering Teji's to my house at 2am even though I live 3 blocks away. For those unfamiliar with Big Bertha, here at UT we're lucky to have the biggest bass drum in the land (don't believe anything Purdue says). She weighs in at a humble 500 pounds, measures 8 x 10 ft, and is a beloved tradition of the university. Being on Bertha Crew is more than just dropping the jaws of today's most prominent celebrities, it's representing LHB at home games and university events, and also taking a whole lot of pictures with people. If you like working diligently/definitely not napping at rehearsals and in-‐state away games, have mad gains bro, and like yelling at football players within earshot, you might be a great fit here. Please contact me if you're interested, have questions, or need relationship advice at [email protected]
Allie Kubis is the name, Cymbals is the game! I'm a fourth year Business Honors and Supply Chain major from Panama City, FL! I love spitting out random facts (see below), watching SNL/any movie starring a SNL cast member, and losing my voice every week screaming at the football games! I'm spending my summer in Dallas working, cheering on the Rangers, getting pumped the return of football, and waiting for Nick Jonas to wake up and realize he's been in love with me since he was born. I'm super pumped for this season, working with the other amazing Texas Drums Section Leaders, and meeting and helping all the members of this year's band! If you have any questions and have somehow read this far down my bio, feel free to reach out (Fun fact: I'm the only Allie Kubis on Facebook)! Anyways, have a wonderful rest of y'all summers and I will see you guys soon! Hook 'em!!
