    Dear Returning and Prospective Members:

I hope your summer has been great thus far and I hope you are looking forward to our

2014/2015 season as much as I am. The fall semester will busy as usual with full band trips

to Arlingtons AT&T Stadium (aka Cowboy Stadium/Jerrys World) for the UCLA game, and of

course Dallas for the annual Red River Rivalry against OU. In addition, well be performing inexhibition for the Round Rock ISD Festival of Bands.

As many of you know, the landscape in The University of Texas Department of Athletics

has changed dramatically in the past year with the arrival of new Athletic Director, Steve

Patterson, and new Head Football Coach, Charlie Strong. It will be very interesting to see

what our future holds as these gentlemen work to restore UT Football to a position of Nationalprominence! As a member of LHB, you will get to witness this from the inside out.

For a large percentage of students who gain membership in the Longhorn Band, LHB

has been one of the highlights of their college careers. The friends, the performance for over100,000 fans at each game, watching Texas football, the trips, and most importantly the

opportunity for you to learn more about yourself in a safe and nurturing environment aresome of the reasons LHB has meant so much to so many.

I want you to enjoy what thousands before you have already enjoyed and I want you to

carry forward the rich and prized history and traditions of the Longhorn Band. To that end,

please practice all the music that has been made available to you via the web link, attend a

marching clinic, watch the online videos at www.longhornband.org, percussionists andguard members attend your respective clinics practice even more and then be prepared to

give your all at band week in August.

Greetings! It is a pleasure to welcome each and every one of you, returning members and aspiring new members alike, to

The University of Texas Bands. The University of Texas at Austin is the capstone of our states highereducation system, and likewise, the Longhorn Band is the premier group of its kind in the nation. This is

going to be a special year for all of our UT Bands, and the Longhorn Band in particular. It wont be long untilthe drum cadence begins to speed up, the roll-off hits and the strains of Texas Fight! will again bereverberating from the walls of Darrell K Royal -Texas Memorial Stadium.

New members will quickly learn that among the things that you need to be concerned about are youracademic studies, time management and your personal integrity. You will learn that the Longhorn Band reallyis a large family, and as such, you will meet many wonderful people who are here to help you. Dont be afraidto ask for help should you need it!

Your college years are going to be filled with many wonderful opportunities and choices. Though you

have heard it before (and perhaps didnt believe it) your college years really will be the best years of your life.Pack everything that you can into the moment!

On every college campus, there are only a handful of traditions that are truly enduring. The Longhorn Band is one of those truly specitraditions. From performing before over 100,000 plus fans each weekends in DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, to providing the officiceremonial music for The University, to serving as The University's musical ambassadors throughout the nation, the Longhorn Band a highly valued representative of this great university. The friendships that you make here are what make life worth living. You will hathe time of your life!I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes:For me, a memory of a Texas childhood is synonymous with a memory of The University of Texas in the early 1920s. For it was then thmy father, an English Professor at The University, would take me up the long staircase to his office in Old Main and lift me up over the pil

of books and papers to look out of the windows. I loved to watch the old people (he called them students) far below, walking past thgrassy open spaces and big oak trees and bluebonnets to lots of wooden buildings. I thought, This is the best place.Three quarters of a century later, grassy open spaces, bluebonnets, and wooden buildings and Old Main itself, have given way to the Towand scores of handsome edifices, and the 3,000 or so old people have been succeeded by more than 45,000 students. After a lifetime loaffair with this institution, as a student, father of students, and a member of the Board of Regents, I know that I was right when I looked ou

of the windows of my fathers office in Old Main. This is the best place.~Thomas Law, BA 39, LLB, 42I look forward to meeting all of you in August.

Heyo! I am Whitney Swimelar and I am super excited about this upcoming

year! I am from Flower Mound, TX and a fifth-year Master in Professional

Accounting major. I just signed with KPMG to work in their Dallas Tax

office! When I am not super busy practicing my clarinet, I also play handball

as a member of UTs handball team. But really I spend most of my time

watching TV. I keep up with a crazy amount of shows but also watch old

shows on Netflix. This summer I am taking some classes and working at an

accounting firm. I have an unhealthy obsession with Chuys and I rarely go a

week without it. I like the strawberry margarita of the tex-mex dinner

because it is super sweet and tastes like candy! Like having dessertthroughout the meal! I look forward to seeing everyone at band week!
