The Ladies Annual Fish-Off is a 50 1(c)(3) nonprofit established over 30 years ago. Since it s founding, the tournament has raised over $532,0 0 0 for it s char it ies: The Ronald McDonald House Char it ies of South Flor ida, The Billf ish Foundat ion, and money to the NSU Oceanographic Center Fisher ies Lab.In recent years, The Ladies Fish-Off has become one of the largest f ishing tournaments in South Flor ida by our signif icant number of boats and anglers who enter the compet it ion, and many more par t icipants join every year.

Our anglers f ish for f ish in f ive non-billf ish categor ies: b lackfin tuna, cobia, dolphin, kingfish and wahoo. Cash and pr izes are awarded to the top ten boats and top three lady anglers. More awards are g iven to the top three largest f ish in each category. Other winning categor ies include top family, top junior, top captain and top pee-wee angler.

As the name implies, only ladies can be anglers, but everyone is welcome to compete. Families are encouraged to par t icipate and men are more than welcome to join in as captain and crew !

We kindly ask for cash or in-kind donat ions, both being elig ib le for sponsorship advert isement in event publicat ions. Our gracious donors will have ads featured in the tournament magazine, will be listed on our tournament website, and promoted on social media.

o u r c h a r it iesHelping a sick child f ight their illness takes a b ig enough emot ional toll on a family. Adding a f inancial strain can make it almost too much to bear. Ronald McDonald House Char it ies (RMHC) of South Flor ida has helped addressed those problems, whether they involve housing that 's near a hospitalized child, the expense of staying in another cit y, or even gett ing basic medical care. For the past 35 years RMHC of South Flor ida has assisted more than 28,0 0 0 families stay close to their cr it ically ill or injured child by helping improve their overall healthcare exper ience. The funds raised every year from the Ladies Fish-Off, help cover operat ion expenses to keep the doors of the Ronald McDonald Houses in South Flor ida open for current and future families. We could not do it without all of you, our community par tners, staff members, volunteers, the medical community and our par tners. The Ronald McDonald House is a place w here you can find hope, comfor t , courage and family.


The Billf ish Foundat ion (TBF) is recognized globally and has cont inued to d ist inguish it self from other f ish conservat ion organizat ions through sustained emphasis on synthesizing science and policy into effect ive, yet reasonable f ishery management solut ions ? solut ions that benefit the f ish but aren?t punit ive to recreat ional anglers.

TBF has invested in upgrading our Tag & Release Database to make it easier to report data on both tagged and released billf ish and billf ish that are released but not tagged. Anglers or captains can go to our website, b illf ish.org to create a profile to record tag and release data, submit photos and videos and see the most recent catch and releases from anglers around the wor ld. Every b it of informat ion submitted helps TBF piece together the puzzle that is mar ine conservat ion and work towards a sustainable f ishery. Angler par t icipat ion adds to the base of knowledge that advances billf ish science and billf ish management policies.

Anglers can also submit catch and release data with TBF?s mobile applicat ion, available for Apple products in the app store. Users can quickly and easily report tagged and released fish, while also post ing a photo and explore recent data, including recaptures. The par t icipant?s mobile device automat ically enters the correct lat itude and longitude based on the locat ion and allows them to report as an angler or captain. Users can also post a photo with the entry and explore recent data including recaptures. The app is now available for Apple products in the app store. TBF would not be able to fund these programs without donat ions from partners like The Ladies Annual Fish-Off. We can?t thank them enough for their many years of generous support !

Since 20 10 , South Flor ida recreat ional f ishing tournaments have hosted the Fisher ies Research Laboratory from Nova Southeastern Universit y. Graduate and undergraduate students in the Fisher ies Lab conduct research on f ish b iology and applied f isher ies science to address pressing issues in mar ine f isher ies management , especially concerning f ishes of the coastal pelagic ecosystem, such as king mackerel, wahoo, b lackfin tuna, skip jack tuna, litt le tunny, and dolphinfish. These fish are commonly targeted by recreat ional anglers, and included in the ?fun f ish? category in many big game pelagic f ishing tournaments. For 20 17, our main species of interest is great barracuda. At the tournaments, the Fisher ies Lab has a sampling booth is setup adjacent to the weigh stat ion w here measurements and biological samples are collected. Once the anglers have weighed-in the f ish with the tournament , they drop the f ish off at the sampling stat ion for a few minutes while the team of researcher ?s record data and collect the samples. The biological samples collected include: the stomach, gonads, muscle t issue, and liver t issue. The stomach and muscle t issue is collected to evaluate the trophic ( foodweb) dynamics of the f ish via stomach content and stable isotope analyses. The fish are kept on ice dur ing the ent ire process to ensure the qualit y of meat for the anglers, and once the data and samples have been collected, the f ish are returned. There?s no requirement to have your f ish sampled, of course.

The informat ion we get from these tournaments is extremely valuable and has already great ly improve what is current ly known about the South Flor ida coastal pelagic ecosystem.
