ISION

We, the Loyola Film Circle, envision to establish and

strengthen a film culture that upholds the art and

aesthetics of cinema and promotes the medium for social

discourse and involvement.

v

We, the Loyola Film Circle, strive to advocate in the Ateneo

artistic excellence and social discourse through film.

As such, we strive to improve our members’ interaction

with film in its three facets - appreciation, production, and

critiquing - while providing them with the opportunity to

pursue and hone their particular competencies.

With these, we intend to produce members aimed at

contributing to the local film community, aiding in the

formation of the nation, our culture, and identity.

Hello there, future LFC member!

First of all, thank you for your

interest in our organization and in looking

through Sneak Peek, this magazine of sorts.

In here, you’ll find pictures and stories of the

different people you’ll meet in LFC. They’re

also the people behind all the amazing

projects and events that have happened in

the past years. Needless to say, they’re back

to give you guys an amazing year of projects

and events. You can also learn about these

Flagship Projects in the later pages, and

you’re more than welcome to help out with

making these projects the best ever, or

even just participate and attend the events.

Either way, we need your help to make the

Loyola Film Circle’s 17th year the best it’s

ever had!

Being an LFC member doesn’t mean

you have to know how to make films. Yes,

filmmaking is a big part of what makes LFC

L F C, but it isn’t the only thing about our org

and it definitely isn’t just about directing,

shooting, or editing. There are many other

aspects of filmmaking - such include acting

on screen, writing scripts, creating sets

and props, designing costumes, and even

creating film scores! Now, if you aren’t so

into Production, LFC has two other core

competencies: Critique and Appreciation.

Can’t get enough about how this character

died, and how that plot twist happened,

and how the film ended? LFC’s the best

place for your rants and opinions! Do you

love watching films and you’re looking for

friends to have movie marathons with? LFC

already has the popcorn in the microwave!

Are you going crazy about those pesky end

credits scenes na may sobrang laking plot

twist pero laging pinapaasa ka lang? LFC

understands your hugot.

If you choose to be an LFC member,

or stay as one, I can promise you that you

will not have a single dull day with all the

interesting people you’ll meet in this org. At

the end of the day when all the projects and

events are done, it’s the people who really

stay with you, literally and figuratively. You’ll

want to join LFC for all the amazing projects

and events that you can be a part of, but it’s

the people you’ll meet and get close to that

will make you stay.

However you may choose to be part of the

Loyola Film Circle’s 17th year, remember

that it’s not just about films and fun, but

the friends and family that you’ll have. Now

who wouldn’t want that?

Enjoy reading the rest of Sneak Peek, or

basically just looking at the pictures of all

the gorgeous people of the org hahaha,

and we hope to see you soon.

Welcome to the Loyola Film Circle!

PRESIDENT

What made you join LFC?

Filmmaking is one of the things I love

doing. It’s more than a hobby for me. It’s

one of the things I want to keep doing

because it makes me really happy.

What do you love about LFC?

I love the people. Of course I love the

filmmaking, the film critiquing, all the

events - but it’s really the people that make

me stay in LFC.

How does LFC feed your love for film?

LFC is my main channel for filmmaking

and film watching since I learn about

new films from the people around me. I

learn new filmmaking techniques from

ProdCore, and in general, they nurture

what I already know about filmmaking.

They give a deeper sense to everything.

Who would you want to meet on a red

carpet?

Alfred Hitchcock.

Is there an actor or character you would

date?

Tom Hiddleston.

cRUZ

EXTERNALS VP

yUMIcATABIJAN

How does LFC feed your love for film?

The projects are made to open people up

to previously unknown films. It opened me

up to so many movies I never even knew.

What can we expect from LFC this year?

Any projects that people HAVE to check

out?

My favorite project is Under the Stars, so

definitely go there. We’re also trying to

see if we can get scholarships to send

deserving members to film screenings.

You can look forward to Loyola Screens,

meeting stars and directors, Loyola Film

Festival, and Film Camp!

If someone were making a movie about

your LFC life, which important scenes

would be included?

I got to do externals work in Festival de

Cannes. But the main highlights would

be meeting people since you have this

advocacy to introduce people to film.

Who would you want to meet on a red

carpet?

I want to meet production designers Stuart

Craig and Sophia McMillan since those two

are really my idols.

Is there an actor/character you would

date?

Tom Hiddleston. Definitely Tom, enough

said.

FINANCE VP

pIOlAZATIN

What do you love about LFC?

I love that I find other people who are just

as passionate about film as me. I always

have a place.

If you could compare your LFC journey to

a movie, what would it be?

The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

How does LFC feed your love for film?

Loyola Screen, Fete du Film, Film Literacy

Classes, those different projects always

bring something new. I admittedly don’t

watch that many films - especially local

ones - so each time they’re featured, I’m

like “Whoa, something new.” IsaPe too is

a learning experience. And really, it’s all

about being with other members.

Who would you want to meet on a red

carpet?

Well, Emma Watson, definitely.

What precious moments wouldn’t have

happened if you didn’t join LFC?

I would never have the same group of

friends, and I would never have seen the

multitude of movies I now love, and my

girlfriend.

INTERNALS VPtRISHoCAMPO

What do you love about LFC?

The people. It’s such a warm and

welcoming environment. It has been my

home for the past three years. You will

never feel out of place within the org

because there is always someone to talk

to, to laugh with, to cry to, and to head to

the cinemas with.

If you could compare your LFC journey to

a movie, what would it be?

Star Wars. The whole Luke Skywalker

feeling like a farmboy, then suddenly

discovering that - though he has to prove

himself - he can be so much more than

that.

How does LFC feed your love for film?

I can now, for sure, watch a movie every

single day. Watching movies in the org

room really is a different experience

because you can discuss them as you

watch them. You end up learning so much

about movies from every single person in

the org.

Who would you want to meet on a red

carpet?

Steven Spielberg. He’s my hero and

favourite director of all time.

What precious moments wouldn’t have

happened if you never joined LFC?

I never would have applied to double

major in Communication. My time in LFC

made me realize that I wanted to pursue

film in the future. LFC showed me a whole

new side of myself.

SECRETARIAT VP

lIANAoLIVEROS

What do you love about LFC?

I love the fact na parang kahit anong

activities, we get to share a part of

ourselves and what we love about film. We

somehow manage to integrate what made

us join the org in the first place.

If you could compare your LFC journey to

a movie, what would it be?

My Little Bossings! No no I have a great

explanation for this! Because I entered

LFC as PR and the movie was full of

promotions. Pero despite it being filled

with promos, when it comes down to the

theme of the movie, it was all about family.

And I found my family in LFC.

How does LFC feed your love for film?

I did not think I would be this into film

coming into LFC. I can definitely say I know

more. I find my movie tastes changing, as

in movies I found great before, now I’m like

“Really, Liana? Past Liana, what were you

thinking?”

Who would you want to meet on a red

carpet?

I’m gonna say Morgan Freeman just

because he’s God.

What precious moments wouldn’t have

happened if you didn’t join LFC?

I would have never met a lot of the

closest college friends I have today. Also,

I probably wouldn’t have been so into

makeup.

aSSOCIATEvp ICE

RESIDENTS

EXTERNALS AVPmAGSoCAMPO

What made you join LFC?

I joined because the promotions were so

nice when I was in first year. I signed up

for Creatives, and when I met the people

during the interview, I just fell in love with

them.

If you could compare your LFC journey to

a movie, what would it be?

Princess Mia’s transformation in The

Princess Diaries since I came into college

super insecure with my design work, and

myself as a leader since it’s like a small fish

in a big pond thing when you get here. But

when I got into Creatives, I thought “May

bisa ako sa mundo.” So LFC has constantly

been proving to me that I can do stuff as

well.

How does LFC feed your love for film?

I’ve met so many people who are so

passionate for film, and it’s hard not to get

infected by that love because it’s in our

culture to share movies.

What can we expect from LFC this year?

You can expect a lot of fun for newcomers,

but LFC is also going to be a more solid

brand this year. Everything is a must see!

What precious moments wouldn’t have

happened if you didn’t join LFC?

My first Under the Stars. The guy I liked

back then, I don’t know how, but he

opened my locker and he left me shoes

to ask me out. He customized this pair of

Vans for me, and it had a note that said

“Will you go to Under the Stars with me?”

FINANCE AVP

mAYENpINEDA

What made you join LFC?

I joined since I was part of a film org in high

school and I hoped I could continue that.

It would contrast my course which is all

business and whatnot, so it was a good fit.

If you could compare your LFC journey to

a movie, what would it be?

The Hobbit. The journey was long, fun, and

full of great visuals.

If someone were making a movie about

your LFC life, which important scenes

would be included?

This is super important: when I totally

failed at project management in first year

and second year. Life-changing.

Who would you want to meet on a red

carpet?

Audrey Hepburn ‘cause she’s AUDREY

HEPBURN, and John Lennon because he’s

a real troll in those old movies.

If you accepted an award for LFC being

the “Best Org Ever”, what would you say in

your acceptance speech?

LFC may not be the biggest org, but that is

completely overshadowed by the level of

passion these people have for film. We’re

the “Best Org Ever” because that passion

was able to reach even those outside the

org, and for that, we’re all truly grateful.

INTERNALS AVP

mIKHAIL bRIONES

What do you love about LFC?

The people. Watching movies for me is not

a solitary thing. It needs to be done with

others.

If you could compare your LFC journey to

a movie, what would it be?

A scene in Waterworld where someone

drops a flare into a vat of oil and

everything just blows up.

What can we expect from LFC this year?

Any projects that people HAVE to check

out?

The Ateneo Video Open. I got the chance

to experience it with all the former

presidents of LFC, and the experience was

hilarious. Another would be Yule Ball since

it’s more intimate for my liking compared

to something like Under the Stars. I’m

excited for the more efficient and zero-cost

LFC.

If you accepted an award for LFC being

the “Best Org Ever”, what would you say in

your acceptance speech?

It takes work to get to the top, and we want

to be humble, so we want to thank all

those we stepped on.

What precious moments wouldn’t have

happened if you didn’t join LFC?

I hope this happens again: there was a

movie marathon at an orgmate’s house,

and unli-spaghetti at The Old Spaghetti

House.

Inception. Totally mindblowing.

Who would you want to meet on a red

Tom Hanks.

Is there an actor or character you would

date?

Saoirse Ronan. She grew as an actress.

If you accepted an award for LFC being

the “Best Org Ever”, what would you say in

your acceptance speech?

Thank you LFC, for creating a home for

many individuals in Ateneo. I hope you

continue to inspire people to share their

passion for film.

What precious moments wouldn’t have

Movie Trivia Game Show. And you get to

What do you love about LFC?

I love the people and how we’re kind of on

the same level of weirdness in terms of movie

references. Like, they just understand you.

How does LFC feed your love for film?

It gives me an avenue to fuse what I love -

which is design - and movies together through

Creatives.

Who would you want to meet on a red

John Lasseter, the chief creative officer for

Pixar. I would die.

Is there an actor or character you would

George Clooney. I’m so sad he’s getting mar-

What precious moments wouldn’t have

I wouldn’t have met the people. It’s the people

What do you love about LFC?

The people in LFC are so diverse. Not everyone

is so filmy, but everyone can contribute to the

core competencies.

If you could compare your LFC journey to

a movie, what would it be?

The Lego Movie because it’s about a person

who’s given power and is so full of doubt.

But he finds out he was given that power not

because he could do it, but because he could

learn how to do it.

How does LFC feed your love for film?

It gives me an opportunity to mingle with other

people with different ideas. Film is a collab-

orative process and makes you appreciate

everyone’s opinion on the matter.

Who would you want to meet on a red

carpet?

Saoirse Ronan since she’s my age, and she’s

down-to-earth, and there’s a small chance that

we could wed and be husband and wife in a

perfect world.

What precious moments wouldn’t have

happened if you didn’t join LFC?

being pushed down. In addition to the positive

experiences, I’ve learned that the show has to

go on.

What do you love about LFC?

I think I joined LFC for the films, but I think I

stayed for the people and the friendships and

all that. I mean, there’s still film of course, but

then what anchors me to the org more now

would be the people.

If you could compare your LFC journey to

a movie, what would it be?

Up or The Wizard of Oz. Because last year, I

wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep my main focus

in LFC. In a way, Up and Wizard of Oz are both

about wanting to break out, explore the world,

but then in the end, you realize that all you

needed was at home.

How does LFC feed your love for film?

A lot of the members are diverse, and so

are their tastes in movies. So I’ve ended up

watching films I never thought I would, or

finding out about really great movies that I

didn’t expect to enjoy.

Who would you want to meet on a red

carpet?

Johnny Depp! And yes, I would cry. Right in

front of him.

Is there an actor or character you would

contest wherein members from the Creatives, DP, HR, PR, and S&M

committees (with the help of ProdCore) will aim to answer the

their productions. The film entries will be shown during LFF’s

Who would you want to meet at a red

carpet?

Francis Ford Coppola. I love The Godfather even

if people criticize me for going too mainstream.

It’s a masterpiece and I can’t believe someone

like him pulled it off even if he didn’t want

to. He was fighting with all the people from

Paramount, and it was almost never finished,

but he still pulled it off and made it the

masterpiece it is now.

One of LFC’s most anticipated flagship projects, Under the Stars is

an open-to-all outdoor variety show and film screening for friends,

lovers, and everyone in between. Gather under the dark sky for a

night of fun, film, music, and love. Spread out your blankets and enjoy

original short films by LFC and the event’s full length feature film.

Over the years, Under the Stars has featured a selection of well-loved

romantic comedies and musical films including Moulin Rouge!, Little

Manhattan, 50 First Dates, and Across the Universe. Meet us under the

stars for good vibes and even better company - which has made this

event a favorite among Ateneans.

What made you join LFC?

I love watching movies, and I guess it was

appealing to have an org that catered to that.

And it’s ~artsy~.

How does LFC feed your love for film?

Just by existing. Because when you get too busy

sometimes, the things you love become the

bottom of your priority list. But with LFC, you’re

reminded that the things you love are actually

important. They’re not just random things in

your life, but things that give you meaning.

What can we expect from LFC this year?

Any projects that people HAVE to check

out?

This year, Under the Stars is gonna be bigger

and brighter. Ateneans love UTS, and you can

expect that same classic UTS feel from it. But of

course every year is different, and UTS will feel

like a party this year.

If someone were making a movie about

your LFC life, which important scenes

would be included?

When I went to UTS last year. I was PR and it

was a lot of work, but when I saw everyone who

turned up, it made my whole year worth it.

If you accepted an award for LFC being

the “Best Org Ever”, what would you say in

your acceptance speech?

Thank you to all the members of LFC over the

years. Because of them, we wouldn’t be who we

are now. They made LFC what it is, and we’re

proud to be part of that.

Now on its 16th year, the Ateneo Video Open is an annual filmmaking

competition open to collegiate-level filmmakers from all over the

Philippines. AVO aims to be an avenue for both the budding and

the experienced to share their unique voices and to showcase

their talents through four categories: Short Narrative, Music Video,

Documentary, and Experimental. Filmmakers whose submissions are

selected will be invited to the AVO Screenings, where they will be able

to meet their fellow Filipino filmmakers, and view each other’s work.

Finalists will be invited to the AVO Awards Night, where the winning

entries will be revealed.

What do you love about LFC?

Yna: Everybody is so welcoming all the time and

everyone is so fun. When you’re in the org room,

you never feel awkward, and you never feel like

an outsider.

How does LFC feed your love for film?

Y: It taught me the basics of filmmaking when

I joined IsaPelikula. You can learn a lot about

film when watching, but LFC shows you what

happens behind the scenes and in the industry.

What can we expect from LFC this year?

Any projects that people HAVE to check

out?

Y: A lot of fun! It’s going to be awesome. I’m real-

ly excited for Film Camp and Fete du Film since

they’re interesting projects and deserve more

exposure.

Who would you want to meet on a red

carpet?

Y: Brad Pitt because he’s not just a pretty face,

but a really good actor like in Seven and Fight

Club.

What precious moments wouldn’t have

happened if you didn’t join LFC?

Y: College wouldn’t be as warm without the

people in LFC.
