LF LOGISTICS | Case Studies I n 2009, an up and coming New York luxury fashion brand looking to capitalize on its success within the US market faced the challenge of supporting the rapidly growing international markets after waves of success in the United States. Since the start of 2007, the brand’s shops in the US had been quickly selling through their inventory, with customers waiting in line to snap up the must-have fashion items known for their Bohemian style and luxurious quality. With expansion into Asia in mind, the brand’s senior management team reached out to LF Logistics for a solution that would help them cope with erratic demand in Asia, an unfamiliar market dispersed across a continent that seemed too far to service. They also knew that supporting international markets from existing US infrastructure was not going to be sustainable and were uncertain of the brand’s future potential and risks it faced outside the United States. For these reasons, the senior management team expressed their preference to choose a proven approach that would not disrupt the brand’s business growth at home. The solution we offered was a sequence of market penetration in Asia based on a regional distribution platform, which the customer gladly accepted. The initial entry into the Japanese market from the Central Asian hub located in Hong Kong was wildly successful. Since then, the customer engaged us as a trusted business partner in its aggressive expansion of international markets. For them, it was crystal clear that a strategic partnership with LF Logistics was the way to make things happen under a tight time window and manage multiple projects in different regions, at a time when detailed planning and preparation for market opening was a luxury. The hubbing model and close encounter service sent the brand’s business through the roof. These, however, did not comprise the full solution. LF Logistics is better by design. Using our knowledge and expertise we advised our customer on how its American operations could leverage the international market infrastructure to achieve higher returns.
