Initially the pond laid stagnant for aconsiderable time, albeit frequented byducks.
The source of the pond was believed tobe from underground streams.
Locals recall industrial pipes leadingfrom the pond, it is believed these fedlocal residents, businesses or suppliedwater to steamships in the Harbour.
