The entire City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga welcomes you to Rancho Cucamonga Community Theatre’s production of A Christmas Carol.

Welcome to a Lewis Family Playhouse tradition! This is our fourth production of A Christmas Carol and we are thrilled you’ve joined us to celebrate the holidays with Rancho Cucamonga Community Theatre. We thank you for supporting live local theatre and are proud to present this timeless classic at this beautiful venue.

We are pleased to welcome Director Paul Jacques, who brings us great depth of experience with Dickens and his work, and to again feature the talented Chris Sands in the role of Scrooge. Along with a cast of both new and veteran performers, we know they will delight you with more than your everyday version of this enduring tale.

We hope you will consider continuing to support your local theatre by volunteering your time, auditioning to perform, making a donation to one of our resident theatre companies and telling your friends about this performing arts jewel in the Inland Empire.

Patrick Hediger CULTURAL ARTS COORDINATOR/RCCT PRODUCER

A Christmas Carol is about redemption, both for its central character, Ebenezer Scrooge, and its writer, Charles Dickens. Scrooge’s journey is perhaps the better known of the two: the cold-hearted humbug who is able to redeem his past mistreatments of his fellows after receiving a series of otherworldly warnings.

The story of how A Christmas Carol got printed is not quite as well known. Dickens had come back from his first American tour in 1843 wanting to write a ghost story, possibly inspired by his contact with some of the horror tales from his new friend Edgar Alan Poe. Upon completion, he took his story to his publisher, who promptly rejected it. Undaunted, Dickens forged ahead in his quest to find a publisher, only to find that no one was interested in taking the risk of publishing such an odd creation. After all, he was told: who would possibly want to read a Christmas story with ghosts in it?

Dickens ended up using his own money to publish A Christmas Carol, which has become his most popular and enduring work. In the end, his faith in his own imagination was completely validated, and we have been gifted with the most read, most adapted Christmas story of all time.
