Exhibit recommendations, hints, and tips

Youth spend the entire year learning and developing life skills in the 4-H Youth Development Program. The opportunity to showcase what they have learned is an important part of the 4-H program. We recognize that pictures and videos cannot fully replace live exhibits; the virtual showcase environment is intended to allow a judge to see and learn about the skills a 4-H member has developed as a result of their 4-H experiences. Contact your WSU County Extension 4-H Office to learn more about additional projects supported within the county as well as deadlines to submit exhibit entries. Keep in Mind This

Page 4: Lewis County “4-H VIRTUAL Un-Fair Showcase” …...Lewis County “4-H VIRTUAL Un-Fair Showcase” 2020 EXHIBITS DUE Sept. 1st, 2020 1. This program is intended to replace face-to

list is intended as a resource for 4-H programs in developing the criteria for your county 4-H virtual showcase. The list is not all inclusive of everything offered in the WSU 4-H Program and will need to be revised for your county program.

Photo Taking Tips There will be less chance of glare or color blow out from a flash if you do NOT take your photo from straight on, try to be 20-45% from center. When photographing animals aim for the center of their bodies with your body. Don’t just tilt the camera, bend over, or get down low, as it will distort the shape of your animal if you just tilt the camera. Make sure you have enough light so that the judge will be able to see details of your project weather it is a still project or an animal.

Animal Tips All animals should be “labeled” verbally in video with youth name (age division of youth for Fit & Show), breed, variety (if applicable), tag/tattoo/leg band, sex, and birthdate, this will help the judge identify the youth/animal quickly. The youth should also give their height as this will give the judge an indication of the size of the animal. For small animals, rabbits, cavy, and poultry a 12” ruler or yardstick on the show table may be more appropriate.

T-05- Fashion Revue

T-06 - Consumer Revue

Hello 4-H Sewers! Greetings from your Lewis County 4-H Clothing Superintendents.

We hope you have been able to sew these past few months, and we would like to showcase what you have made! We had hoped to offer an in-person Fashion Show that we were going to record and offer the public to view at their convenience and safety, but that had to be cancelled because of us not making it into Phase 4 of re-opening. So…

Instead, we would like you to put on a “Virtual Fashion Show” for the community! Have a parent, sibling, or friend record you modeling your garment you have made this year, write a short commentary for it and send them both to : [email protected] Elizabeth March, our new Consumer Revue Superintendent, will be putting a fashion show together of the videos sent in. Miss Lewis County, Angela March, will be commentating for you, and we will have Fashion Revue after all!

What about Consumer Revue? YES! Put together a garment that you purchased special this year or altered to fit a need and model that too! Write a commentary for it and send it in as well! Elizabeth is planning to run the Fashion Show similarly to the one that is held at 4-H State Fair (includes both Fashion Revue and Consumer Revue).

Page 8: Lewis County “4-H VIRTUAL Un-Fair Showcase” …...Lewis County “4-H VIRTUAL Un-Fair Showcase” 2020 EXHIBITS DUE Sept. 1st, 2020 1. This program is intended to replace face-to

Please send the videos and commentaries in by August 21st. I know this is short notice, but that will keep the procrastinators from procrastinating! We will let you know when and where you can view the Show once it's put together and posted.

Also, Billie’s Designer Fabrics would like to display garments you have made this year in their display windows! If you would bring your garments in after you make your video, Billie’s will display them until August 29th. Drop them off at Billie’s Designer Fabrics, 510 N Market Blvd, Chehalis during store hours: Monday-Friday 10-3:30, Saturday 10-3. Thanks!

If you have any questions, please call, text, or email me at 360-520-2315, [email protected]

Thank you! I am looking forward to the Fashion Show and 4-H Display downtown Chehalis!
