Profile:As a self-motivated and passionate third year Architecture student, I believe there is more to be learnt and absorbed from the world of architecture than is taught at university. I have endeavoured to gain as much first-hand experience as possible to help further my career within the built environment. Study trips to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Venice and Rome have helped broaden my architectural knowledge base; I feel a lot can be learnt from experiencing spaces in person.
During my first year summer I helped to create an acoustic practice space for the Coda music trust. This is currently installed at the local centre for arts as a performance space. For the entirety of my second year summer, I worked for a local Architecture practice (Brightspace Ltd). The extent of projects undertaken ranged from private homes, student accommodation, and even a large hotel in Bournemouth. The experience provided me a greater understanding of the workplace and further enhanced my passion of architecture.
For my first project of third year, and in collaboration with a fellow student, we designed and built a flat pack beach hut exhibition stand, including its specific packaging. We exhibited our project in Manchester (Nov 2011) and London (Dec 2011). This proved a major challenge, but our success means that we are now looking to copyright our design. During my spare time I also regularly partake in architectural competitions, as I like to constantly challenge myself. This, combined with my strong work ethic and passion for architecture, has helped me to develop key architectural skills for a career in practice.
