PROJECT OVERVIEWanytime fitness, a nationwide fitness chain, wanted to expand into ket-tering, ohio. the challenge of this store front fit-out was to accom-modate a large amount of program into a smaller than desired square footage. the restrooms were arranged to fit together with the minimum code allowances that still encouraged comfortable use. anytime fit-ness had many corporate requirements to maintain their company brand which were tailored to best fit the parameters of this specific site.

PROJECT OVERVIEWcoco’s bistro is an established premier restaurant and bar in day-ton, ohio with a bold exterior paint scheme and graphic murals that set a modern tone as diners approach the restaurant. aw-nings were used to help enhance the appearance of the building as well as provide a covered outdoor dining area. because the awning covered a fire exit, specific measures had to be taken to assure that awnings were permitted by code.

PROJECT OVERVIEWsparkbox is a successful and growing team of web designers and developers based in dayton, ohio who wished to connect its newly expanded office space with an interior means of circulation. currently, coworkers must use the building’s common elevator to access its two different levels. a spiral staircase was proposed in order to minimize valuable square footage. the stair was strategically placed between existing built-up beams creating an angular corridor running adjacent to two new offices and connecting a vestibule and conference center. the open and streamline spiral stair fit the existing modern space and provided the much needed interior circulation.

PROJECT OVERVIEWcoco’s bistro is an established premier restaurant and bar in dayton, ohio which recently moved into a larger building to match its reputation and enhance the dining experience. to comply with code, the building was sec-tioned off into four different fire areas. a previously unoccupied space above required a separate fire exit to become usable. the new entrance to the upper level was to be appealing; inviting new tenants. large windows at the stair landing and clerestory were used to allow natural light. to match the bold exterior paint scheme, the exterior was to be clean and simple allowing fu-ture murals to be painted.

PROJECT OVERVIEWthis early 20th century cottage on bar lake, michi-gan underwent a large addition including a master suite, entry porch, foyer, and sitting room. the ad-dition was configured to preserve as many trees as possible while staying within setback restrictions. many windows throughout the addition take advan-tage of the views. the addition incorporated both matching and contrasting details of the existing cottage.

PROJECT OVERVIEWin this habitat for humanity design project, students were chal-lenged with the task of learning the computer software Revit® and applying it in the design field. the site was situated in a low-income area of springfield, ohio that is currently being as-sisted by habitat for humanity. the design needed to be afford-able and easy to construct (via volunteers) as well as affordable to live in. it was also important to consider the safety of the residents by allowing the design to expand into the property while allowing separation and privacy to individuals.

PROJECT OVERVIEWin this renovation of the existing sullivant hall at ohio state university, stu-dents were tested with renovating an existing building into a new ohio state arts gateway. in addition to the school of dance, the design also had to inte-grate an art gallery, a campus library, and two theaters. much of the challenge in the design was to open up the artificially lit building. the design focused on organizing the school and relating it to the surrounding program while opening the interior space.
