Why is GIS important at Metrolinx?
• Transportation is inherently a geospatial
business involving the movement of
passengers from one place to another
• Location is a key attribute in defining
Metrolinx assets and in defining and
assessing Metrolinx goals (e.g.
identifying ridership patterns, market
sheds around stations, etc.)
Enterprise GIS at Metrolinx
• Enterprise GIS team is a centre of
excellence for GIS and provides support
to business units throughout the
organisation
Enable, support, and maintain the
functional components of eGIS
system

GIS Enterprise Asset and
Record Locator (EARL) Portal
What is EARL?
• The Enterprise Asset and Record Locator (EARL) is a web map solution with integration to Infor
Enterprise Asset Management and OpenText Document Management System.
• EARL was created to develop a single source of truth for Metrolinx to display asset spatial
information, asset condition ratings along with its associated documents (ie as built drawings).
Proponent EARL (PEARL)
• Bidders of the Metrolinx contracts require accurate, reliable, verifiable, timely, and relevant project
data in order to reduce uncertainty and risk, achieve clarity, and contribute to generating accurate,
evidence based, and competitive bids.
• This grew to include environmental data, utility data and reference concept designs for ongoing
GO Expansion projects
• Custom widget for panoramic imagery of the corridor (RailView) is in development and will be
released in EARL

Leveraging GeoEvent for Bus
Fleet Managment
GeoEvent
• Geofences were created for the boundary of each Maintenance
Facilities and for the areas where Maintenance vs. Operational
buses are usually located in the garage.
• Multiple GeoEvent processors were configured to determine
when buses entered or exited a geofence.
