ABOUTUS

THEBEGINNINGLevel Six had its modest beginnings back in 1997 during an eight month surfing trip from Vancouver, British Columbia to San Jose, Costa Rica. Our founders and current directors Stig Larsson and Tyler Lawlor took some time to train, surf and paddle in Costa Rica during the winter to prepare for Slalom National Team Trials. While there, an idea to create a line of apparel for paddlers was born.

Level Six start up was small. In their first year, they produced only one piece of technical paddling gear -The Chubb- a lycra/rubber/neoprene combination rash guard/paddling top as well as a few choice board shorts for girls and guys. Acting as designers, sewers, salesmen and even models, the boys employed their extensive paddling experience to ensure the product was the best it could be and defied the skeptics who thought that a little Canadian company could not compete with the big industry names. But this is exactly what the industry needed – a core paddling company with no ties to the corporate world.

The small company had its challenges. Frequent trips to Montreal fabric warehouses, finding willing seamstresses, searching for materials and creating designs from scratch was just part of the fun. With no designing background, designs and materials were a little off the norm, but that is what made Level Six different. Stig and Tyler designed what they wanted to wear on and off the water, and it just worked.

While paddling full time on the Canadian Slalom Team, Stig and Tyler survived by selling Level Six gear to other World Cup Circuit paddlers and friends, often through classic “out of the back of their truck” selling at races and rodeos.

THEOLYMPICSANDBEYONDThe year 2000 proved to be a thrilling and challenging year. Paddling in Level Six gear, Tyler participated in the Olympic Summer Games in Sydney, Aus-tralia, making a top ten finish. Keeping business going, training and working proved difficult but Stig and Tyler persevered and came out even stronger.

After the Sydney Olympics, Tyler and Stig decided it was time to move the company ahead. Dry tops, lightweight paddling jackets, paddling pants, water-proof breathables and a whole new line of clothing filled their line to match the needs of the industry. They found a wealth of knowledge from their own personal paddling experience as well as from their friends and co-paddlers.

The hard work and designs began to pay off – stores were calling from around the world looking to get their hands on some Level Six. They seemed to be doing something right. People were inspired by the innovative designs, progressive styles, the modest and friendly Canadian way we do things and above all, the fact that the testing ground for the gear was the mighty Ottawa River.

THEFUTUREAfter fifteen years of business Level Six is still committed to pushing the boundaries of what makes great paddling gear even better. Our team of design-ers’ along with our test crew consisting of some of the best athletes in the industry are committed to always improving and innovating. Our gear is put to the test from the rough seas of the Atlantic Coast, to the waves of the Pacific and everything in between. We want to help you get the most of your time on the water.

Not only has Level Six brought forth function and fashion into the paddling world, we are committed to living the lifestyle off the water. The creation of functional threads for paddlers whether it be traveling from one river to another , hopping on a plane to the next destination or grabbing a coffee with your friends after a session on the water, we complete your paddling passion.

THE LEVEL SIX STORY

SUP Level Six continues to grow its SUP specific designs with two very new and exciting categories, the Hydro Shield program and the Neo-Wave program. These pieces have been spe-cifically designed with the dynamics of the SUP paddler in mind. Combining the latest innovative fabrics with fashion and function will make these products a hit and must have for every SUP paddler out there.

Furthermore, additions to our cross over pieces and 2.0 ply waterproof breathable category help to complete the arrangement and collection of goods available to paddlers. With Team athletes like Dan Gavere, and Nikki Gregg pushing the line, Level Six is continuing to innovate in this mar-ket segment with many exciting things to come.

BEACHAPPAREL Our extensive line of beach wear celebrates the vibrant relation-ship we all have with the water. Whether it’s the river, ocean, surf or calm lake, Level Six ensures you are wearing the latest trends in fashion along with all the function you need for your pad-dling endeavours. Our beach apparel has pieces in the line that function well not only when you are hanging out, but also when you are pushing the limit on your SUP board, kayak or canoe. Level Six is functional beach apparel for paddlers.

TRAVELAPPAREL Our athletes are some of the best in the world. Continually push-ing the limits in Expeditions, Big Wave Surfing, First Descents, and SUP races to name just a few, they demand a lot from our clothing and equipment. It was only natural to keep them happy while they are getting to some of the remote areas of the world. The Level Six Travel line utilizes the most advanced fabrics and quality our athletes can trust. They can’t have zippers busting or stitches undoing. They need it lightweight and functional and it’s got to look good, hey they have their reputation to uphold! Level Six travel wear, built to last.

WHITEWATERLevel Six knows its roots. Stig and Tyler have spent the majority of their lives running the world’s rivers and slalom courses and for the past 16 years have poured their passion and knowledge into a robust line of the most rugged white water gear in the world. For 2013 the innovation continues with a new low profile seam tape on all our 3ply garments, Masterseal TiZips on our dry suits and dry pants, and a stronger membrane to scrim bond on our 3ply fabrics. We are very proud of our innovations to date and very excited for the future of Level Six. All of our innovations are tested by the leading wave of paddlers and adventurers, including Patrick Camblin, Mikkel St.Jean-Duncan, Tino Specht, Louise Urwin, Heather Herbeck to name just a few.

RECREATIONAL Everything we’ve learned about keeping paddlers dry while testing the limits of gravity and extreme expeditions has transcended into the designs and construction of our Recreational line. Geared towards everyday paddlers who still demand quality and func-tion this segment of the Level Six line has grown again for 2013. With the success of the 2.0 ply fabric launch in 2012, we at Level Six have built upon this and now offer a full zip 2.0ply jacket in both men’s and women’s versions. Whether it’s out for a leisurely afternoon cruise at the cottage or a more adventurous weekend trek, Level Six has got you covered.

TOURINGAt Level Six, a passion for the ocean or any inland body of water is equalled only by a deep respect for it. With continued innovations in our Touring line like the new TiZip Masterseal Zippers and low profile seam tapes, the line has never looked better. WhatdoestheUPFRatingMean?UPF stands for “ultraviolet protection factor”. Our UPF 50+ rating means that no more than 1/50th of the sun’s UVA and UVB rays pass through the fabric. UPF is different than the SPF (sun protection fac-tor) rating found on sunscreens because SPF measures the amount of time it takes for sun-exposed skin to redden, while UPF measures the amount of UV radiation that penetrates a fabric and reaches the skin. UVB rays are the type that cause sunburn on the surface layer of the skin, while UVA rays penetrate beneath the skin’s surface and accelerate skin’s aging.

SunProtection Our sunsuits and rashguards are made from an elastane/polyester blend. The yarn for these items is treat-ed with a sun block before being woven. Our board shorts are made from tightly-woven, polyester-brushed microfibre. This fabric is also treated with chemical sun block. The tight weave of both of our sun protection fabrics reinforces their UPF factor, especially when wet.

Practicality More effective than sunscreen, each garment offers full protection from the moment it is put on - no re-application necessary! Both our elastane/polyester and microfiber fabrics are also treated for chlorine and salt water resistance. The front sidewinder zipper on the Apollo sun suits makes for easy diaper changes.
