Choose a chapter and read (or re-read) it. 2. Identify a topic or theme. 3. Revisit the chapter and capture 100 or more words or phrases that align with your selected topic or theme. Include the page number for each word and/or phrase you write down. (Also, be sure to keep these rough notes, as you need to submit them with your final poem.) 4. Cross out any words or phrases that seem dull, unnecessary or out of place. 5. Use the remaining words, in order, to create a “Found Poem,” making only minor changes (e.g., tense, plurals, punctuation). 6. Creatively display your poem on an 8½ x 11 sheet of blank paper for marking, based on the rubric on the next page. 7. Time permitting, you will present your poem to the class.
