Dear Parents and Caregivers
Welcome back to the 2018 school year! We hope you have had a lovely
summer with your family!
We have moved students into 24 classes from 6.2.18. We welcome back
to our school Mrs Hall who has been teaching in the far west of the state.
In temporary positions for 2018 we welcome Ms Keato as a classroom
teacher and Ms Stephens and Ms Frost as School Learning Support
Officers. Classes, teachers, supervisors and locations are attached to this
newsletter. We welcome our Early Stage 1 students and their families to
LPS. The students are doing a lovely job of settling into ‘big school’. Class
notes will come home next week giving you more class and stage
information for the year. We will have a Meet the Teacher night,
Wednesday 28.2.18 between 3 - 7 pm. The P&C will be providing a free
BBQ, the playground equipment will be open and you can talk to your
child’s teacher with a ten minute elected time. More information will be
sent to you concerning this in the near future and how to book in.
We are excited to be back as we finalise our strategic plan for the next
three years and move into a year focussed on students, engagement and
impact. We look forward to a very successful year for all learners!
Playground
It was exciting to come back and see the playground equipment installed!
There are two parts to the equipment; one located each on the top and
bottom ovals appropriate for K-2 and 3-6 students. This project was
initiated by the P&C and successful through a grant process obtaining
$ 80,000 for this purpose. Currently we have had some turf laid and will
be laying more to restore the area as it was very dusty and dirty. This
would not have been good for students or the equipment. Asset
Management will be handing the equipment over to the school this week,
checking that it meets the safety standards. Teachers will be inducted in
the safe use of the equipment and will then induct the students in their
class. Over the next eight weeks we will limit the number of students on
the equipment for each lunch session and provide extra supervision. We
will monitor this and keep you up dated with how this induction period
went and what will be happening next. The students have been very
patient and well behaved in not accessing the equipment even though I
know they are very keen to be using it! I anticipate we can have full
access within two weeks when the turf is established.

From the Deputy Principal’s Desk
Welcome to our first newsletter of 2018! I trust that all of our Leumeah families had a relaxing and enjoyable summer break. I know that I am feeling recharged and ready for the new year. At the end of 2017, quite a few of our families moved from the area resulting in a loss of several students. We prepared for 23 classes due to this. In 2018 though, we welcomed new families to our school and now can continue with 24 classes. Thank you to everyone for their patience during this transition period. In 2018, I look forward to working closely with the K-2 classes, their teachers and the relieving Assistant Principals, Mrs Ashlynne Bull and Miss Kelly Roach. Mrs Bull will supervise Kindergarten and Miss Roach is the leader of the Stage 1 team. Mrs Bull and Miss Roach will support classroom teachers every morning to help improve their capabilities to address student needs to progress learning and achievement. I look forward to learning in partnership with all of the K-2 staff members by working in classrooms and celebrating successful achievements with the wider school community. Traffic reminders As it is the first couple of weeks of term, it is timely to remind parents and families of traffic expectations around the school. As I have been on bus duty this week, I have witnessed some incidents that compromise the safety of our students and community members. My main concern is cars parking in contradiction to the No Parking sign at the end of Burrendong Rd on the residential side of the street. This area needs to be clear for traffic to turn. Currently parents are parking in this section and the buses need to do a 3 or 4 point turn to head back down the road. This could cause potential gridlock if there is a car behind the bus, in turn affecting the crossing area and the flow of pedestrian traffic out of the school. I urge all parents and community members parking around the school to be mindful of the safety of others and follow traffic rules.

2018 Assistant Principal and Teacher Librarian role
This year our Assistant Principals and the Teacher Librarian will team-teach students specific guided inquiry skills during
Library and RFF sessions. Guided inquiry engages students in higher-level thinking skills of being creative, analysing, and
evaluating. The New South Wales Curriculum has inquiry skills throughout syllabus documents as part of the general
capabilities. Guided inquiry skills support the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours to assist
students to live and work successfully in the 21st century.
The guided inquiry process will be carefully planned, monitored and evaluated to ensure students are applying skills
across Key Learning Areas in an integrated way. Students will receive regular feedback to improve their capabilities to
access and apply their knowledge.
Semester reports will now include a guided inquiry comment detailing the skills students have learnt and their progress.
Any questions can be directed to your child’s Assistant Principal.
We look forward to sharing student learning throughout the year.

P & C News
Welcome to a new year! The P&C is the parent and community association that exists to support our LPS community. We
meet twice a term on Tuesday night in week 3 and 8. You can find us at 7pm in the staff room.
In 2018, the P&C will continue to be involved in fundraising and volunteering at school events in order to provide some of
the resources that are needed to help LPS continue to be an awesome school for all who are involved with it.
We look forward to working together with you. If you can't make the meetings, feedback is very important to us and
we'd love to hear any feedback or ideas that you have.
