Mrs Evans is a dedicated teacher who works magic in the classroom with her calm manner and high expectaons. She will be greatly missed at LPS! Mrs Ramsdale will relinquish her posion at LPS for 2019. This means that Mrs Ramsdale will not be returning to teaching in the near future as she has pursued a different career path in a casual capacity. Dear Parents and Caregivers

Congratulations to:

SECOND - HAND UNIFORM SALE

Our second-hand uniform sale will be Thursday 15th November.

This stall is cash only. Prices range from $2 - $8 per item. We also

have hair accessories in school colours available. If you have any

preloved in good condition uniforms you would like to donate to our

stall please leave them in the office for collection.

I have only been back for three weeks, but it has been a busy time. Excitingly, at our last P&C meeting we found out that they are in the final stages of quoting and ordering some fans for our hall. These fans will be quite large and are much more effective and efficient than the fans we have. We are hopeful to have these installed for 2019. The hall will be much more pleasant during an assembly on a hot day as a result of these. At our last whole school assembly we began to hand out platinum badges to recipients and quite a number of gold awards went to students too. During this time, we also farewelled Mrs Evans who is just about to go on Long Service Leave and has received a service transfer. We also had the opportunity to award Miss Smith, Mrs Boutskaka, Miss Bryant and Miss Sam who were successful in achieving proficiency as teachers and they received their official accreditation certificates. Congratulations to all of these teachers. The following amazing things are being achieved in K-2 classrooms: Georgia P and Oitijjho B in KC. These two have been learning to use a ‘joining word’ in their sentences to combine

two ideas. They also typed their sentences on Microsoft Word and illustrated them. Their typing skills and use of ‘joining words’ in their sentences was a great achievement. Congratulations Georgia, Oitijjho and Miss Mahoney!

Ashfi A in KB for his use of split strategy to subtract two-digit numbers. Using such a strategy for a kindergarten student is quite an achievement. What is also impressive, is that Ashfi can successfully explain the strategy being used! Ashfi has been working with Mrs Bull in a small group on this strategy during Kindergarten maths groups. Well done Ashfi, Miss Bates and Mrs Bull!

Thank you to Mrs Maytom and 1/2E for inviting me to be a part of the sharing of their Friday STEM challenge. Their problem for the day, was to get Jack, from Jack and the Beanstalk, down from the giant beanstalk in the sky, as safely as they could. Some groups found that if they created a light parachute with a larger area, it created ‘air resistance’ it would slow down the drop for Jack. Congratulations 1/2E and Mrs Maytom.

In 3/4Q, we have been participating in the basketball skills program. Through this we have been demonstrating and

perfecting a range of skills which include, throwing, catching, shooting and defending. Our wonderful coaches have

helped us make huge improvements on our techniques on how to dribble a ball and where to put our hands when

making a shot. Above all, we have been having a tone of fun and we will all be Pros in no time.

SCHOOL BANKING

The end of the year is fast approaching and school banking for 2018 is coming to an end. Please take note of the following dates:

December 4th – last day for ordering reward items. Please note that we cannot guarantee delivery by the end of term if ordered on this day. The Secret Scratch Notepad is no longer available. All tokens can be held over and used in 2019.

December 11th – last day of banking for 2018

There are a number of items that are going to be raffled off at the end of term. If you have banked this year you will automatically be entered into the draw which will take place on December 11th. Prizes will be distributed in the class satchels.

We would like to thank everyone that has participated in the school banking scheme this year. In the first 3 terms of this year we have earnt $1452 in commission for the P&C.

Unfortunately due to issues experienced with cheques banked by students, we will no longer be accepting cheques from term 1, 2019.

Thank you.

School Banking Co-ordinators.

Cheryl Owen Award for Volunteers 2018

This award is named in honour of the late Cheryl Owen, a woman who tirelessly gave her time and effort to Leumeah

Public School over a number of years. This award is open to all carers and supporters of Leumeah Public School who

work in a voluntary capacity - parents, grandparents, friends etc.

This is a special award honouring the memory of a very special woman, commemorated by a shield in our front office,

and an individual certificate presented to the recipient. Please give our wonderful volunteers the recognition they

deserve by nominating and voting.

Our previous recipients include Mrs Baraka, Mrs Anderson, Mr Goodlet, Mrs So and Ms Shaddock, typical of people

within our school community who work throughout the year, dedicating their time and effort, usually behind the

scenes, for the benefit of others. They are not alone when it comes to helpers in our school. There are many, many

quiet achievers that give up their time, energy and even money for all our benefit, for the greater good. Scripture

classes, classroom support for teachers, assisting at gala days, sports carnivals, swimming carnivals and excursions;

participation in the P&C, other school events like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls, events and discos. These are

all the types of activities that need helpers, and need people to commit for success to be achieved. Who do you know

who has helped at our school in 2018 in any way and deserves recognition?

Cheryl Owen Award Nominations

Nominations are now open. Please complete the nomination form at the bottom of the page and return to the office

by Wednesday, 14 November 2018 providing details for someone in our community who has volunteered their

time in 2018 to help LPS in the classroom, at scripture, during sport or for the P&C. This award is presented at our

presentation day at the end of Term 4.
