Dear AP US Government Students & Parents,

Thank you for your interest in AP US Government and Politics. Your enrollment isimperative to the future of the program.

During your time in AP Gov, you will be busy! The goal of the course is not only tolearn the inner-workings and functioning of the United States Government, but toprepare you for the AP Exam in May. Through the Exam is not a requirement, it isstrongly encouraged.

The semester is divided into 7 units. During each unit of study, students will beresponsible for learning a plethora of vocabulary terms (nearly 700 for thesemester), reading and outlining each chapter of the text that corresponds to ourstudy (the entire text will be read by the end of the term), and reading the articles

assigned to enhance your understanding of the curriculum. During each unit ofstudy lasting 2-3 weeks, there are approximately four outside readings and twosources of homework each week consisting of daily readings, in addition to thelong term assignments that include vocabulary mastery and textbook reading.Even if there is nothing due on a particular day, there is ALWAYS and assignmentto be working on in AP Gov!

The curriculum is planned well in advance so students are very aware of what thecontent expectations are. Unit calendars are always provided detailing all tasksand their corresponding due dates. We take great care to help students refinetheir time management skills in preparation for college. It will take some time toacclimate to the expectations and demands of the class, but all students do. Andall students walk away from the course feeling accomplished.

This is a college prep course and is therefore treated as such. Students shouldexpect to work hard everyday and take responsibility for their learning.Attendance is necessary to be successful in this course, as much of theinstruction is direct. Students should make every effort to be in class each day.

{Some bull about experience and suck up and politics} ...We would also suggestthat students take the time to investigate their own political perspective on the
