Dear Parents, Perhaps you have seen many kids who indulge in watching TV, using computer or smartphone, surfing the net and playing electronic games. Over-indulgence in these activities deprives them of physical activity and contributes to the following negative impacts: 1) More likely to become obese and develop related chronic diseases, e.g. diabetes and heart diseases 2) Hinder the development of cognitive ability, memory functions, speech and social skills 3) May develop violent behaviour and a reduction in attention span, as screen information often comes in the form of advertisement which may be associated with pornography, violence and distorted facts of life As such, parents should be mindful of the potential problems arising from screen-time activities. The Department of Health recommends no screen time (such as watching TV, using computer or smartphone, surfing the net and playing electronic games) for kids under the age of two. As for those aged two to six, they should: 1) Have no more than two hours of accumulated screen time per day 2) Have no more than one hour for each screen-time session so as to avoid indulgence and adverse effects on physical, psychological and social well-being 3) Replace screen time with more parent-child activity and physical games. Spanking, scolding or even taking away their gaming devices may have an immediate deterring effect. In the long run, however, it is self-discipline of the kids that matters most. Let me share with you some good ways to handle this problem next time. Best regards, Sporty Bunny

Dear Parents,Perhaps you have seen many kids who indulge in watching TV, using computer or smartphone, surfing the net and playing electronic games. Over-indulgence in these activities deprives them of physical activity and contributes to the following negative impacts:

1) More likely to become obese and develop related chronic diseases, e.g. diabetes and heart diseases

2) Hinder the development of cognitive ability, memory functions, speech and social skills 3) May develop violent behaviour and a reduction in attention span, as screen information often comes in the form of advertisement which may be associated with pornography, violence and distorted facts of life

As such, parents should be mindful of the potential problems arising from screen-time activities. The Department of Health recommends no screen time (such as watching TV, using computer or smartphone, surfing the net and playing electronic games) for kids under the age of two. As for those aged two to six, they should:

1) Have no more than two hours of accumulated screen time per day 2) Have no more than one hour for each screen-time session so as to avoid indulgence and adverse effects on physical, psychological and social well-being

3) Replace screen time with more parent-child activity and physical games.

Spanking, scolding or even taking away their gaming devices may have an immediate deterring effect. In the long run, however, it is self-discipline of the kids that matters most. Let me share with you some good ways

to handle this problem next time.Best regards,
